5 Transport and assembly
5.1 Packaging
A decisive factor in the choice of packaging is the means of transport.
Normally, the machine and the accessories are shipped in a carton crate.
5.2 Sensitivity
When transporting the SG 160, special care must be taken in order to prevent
damage from impact or improper loading and unloading.
All movable parts must be fixed in place prior to transport.
Transport insurance should be provided for according to the type and duration
of transport. Condensation due to large temperature fluctuations and crushes
during shipment should be avoided.
The SG 160 should be handled with care.
5.3 Intermediate storage
If the SG 160 is not used immediately upon delivery, the machine must be
stored in a safe place and covered properly.
5.4 Scope of delivery
The contents (number of tranport crates, pallets, packages) and their condition
should be checked immediately following receipt. Any damage and/or missing
parts should be noted right away on the bill of lading and reported to Georg
Fischer Omicron S.r.l. without delay.

7 Fusion Preparation
7.1 General information
This manual is based according to the instruction sheets and guidelines issued
by the DVS.
The fusion area should be protected against the influences of weather
(humidity, ambient temperature <+ 5 °C, extreme direct exposure to sun) with
such measures as pre-warming the fusion materials, tents, heating.
For optimal use of the SG 160, operating personnel must be specially trained
by Georg Fischer. In-depth knowledge of the machine and the related
components rule out handling errors, thereby also preventing faulty fusion
joints.
7.2 Heating element settings
7.2.1 Temperature setpoint adjustment
To set the welding temperature, press the button Pshortly < 3 sec.
The LED OUT 1 will switch ON, the actual temperature set point for the
welding temperature is displayed.
By pressing UP or DOWN the desired temperature set point can be selected.
Press shortly UP or DOWN to change one unit only, by pressing continuosly
the UP or DOWN button the digits will change fast.
To confirm the new setting press the button Pshortly < 3 sec or wait
approximately 15 seconds to change automatically in the operation mode.
The current measured temperature will be displayed. When the temperature is
at the set point the green LED will be on, if the temperature is below the set
point the LED OUT 1 will be on!

If you entered uncontrolled in the programming operation, it is sufficient to wait
20 second without pressing any key. The controller will switch back itself and
shows the actual temperature.
7.3 Butt fusion preparation
The machine can be prepared for butt fusion in only a few steps.
Loosen the knurled-head screw. Pressure is now built up via spring tension.
The groove in both eccentric screws (in front and at the back) should be
horizontal and secured with the safety screw. The heating plate can be moved
axially

Adjust the rotation direction of the planer as displayed in the picture below. The
rotation direction of the planer, as seen from the motor side, is clockwise.
Mount the inner basic clamping plates left and right. Install the inserts and the
left and right clamping brackets for the corresponding dimensions.
For additional support, Y-supports are available.
When joining long pipe pieces, use the outer basic clamping plates!

7.4 Socket fusion preparations
Usually on the SG 160, the fitting is clamped on the right and the pipe on the
left, as seen from the user’s side. If necessary, the machine can be prepared
or rebuilt at a later time for the opposite clamping version. The following
instructions refer to the fitting being clamped on the right side.
Mount the disengaging device on the fitting side (in our example on the right).
Mount the depth stop in such a way that the locking fork points toward the
fitting side.
The stops on the depth stop must be set according to the following
standards:
