■Proper Stance. Keep firm footings and
balance. Do not overreach. Keep the hedge
trimmer away from all parts of your body and
away from hot surfaces.
■Exhaust Gases. Never start or run the
product inside a closed room or building:
breathing exhaust fumes can cause illness or
death.
■Fuelling. Mix and pour fuel outdoors where
there are no sparks or flames. Slowly remove
the fuel cap only after stopping the engine.
Do not smoke while fuelling or mixing fuel.
Wipe spilled fuel from the product. Move at

hedge trimmer above waist height.
■Kick back. Kick back may occur when the
blade contacts a solid object in the cutting
area. Ensure that the cutting blades are kept
clear of fences, posts, wires etc. This is more
likely to occur in areas where it is difficult to
see the material being cut.
■Stopping the Product. A coasting blade
can cause injury while it continues to spin
after the engine is stopped or the throttle is
released. Maintain proper control until the

Operation
Mixing the fuel
This product is powered by a 2 stroke engine
and requires pre-mixing petrol and 2 stroke oil.
The oil mix should be 25:1. Never mix petrol
and oil directly in the engine tank.
Use unleaded petrol intended for motor vehicle
use with an Octane rating of 87 ( [R + M] / 2) or
higher. Purchase fuel from a reputable fuel
supplier.
Use the mixing container provided to mix the oil
and petrol in the correct quantities.
Petrol Oil
1 litre 25 ml
2 litres 50 ml
3 litres 75 ml
4 litres 100 ml
5 litres 125 ml
Mix only enough fuel for your immediate needs.
Fuel should not be stored for more than 30 days.
Follow these steps to mix the fuel:
1. Use the container provided for mixing fuel.
2. Mix the 2 stroke engine oil with unleaded
petrol in the container provided at the rate
of 40 parts petrol to 1 part oil.
3. Mix the fuel thoroughly and also each time
before re-fuelling.
4. Mix in small quantities. Do not mix more
fuel than you expect to use within a 30 day
period.
5. Store fuel only in a clean, safe, approved
container for petrol – not the fuel mixing
bottle provided.
Follow these steps to fill the tank:
1. Clean the surface around the fuel tank to
prevent contamination.
2. Loosen the fuel cap by turning it counter
clockwise.
3. Pour the fuel mixture carefully into the tank.
4. Clean and inspect the gasket.
NOTE: Replace the fuel cap if the gasket is
damaged.
5. Install the fuel cap and tighten it by turning
it clockwise.
Always stop the engine before filling
the tank. Never add fuel to a
machine with a running or hot
engine. Move at least 9 m away from
the refuelling site before starting the
engine. Do not smoke while filling the
tank. Do not add fuel to the tank
close to an open fire or sparks. Never
add fuel to the tank in a closed or
non-ventilated area.
Filling the Tank
6. Wipe spilled fuel from the product.
7. Move at least 9 metres away before
starting the product.
NOTE: It is normal for the engine to emit
smoke during use.
Check for fuel leaks. If you find any
leaks, correct the problem before
using the product.
Petrol is extremely flammable and
explosive. A fire or explosion from
petrol will burn you and others.

Starting the Product
Starting the product depends on whether the engine is cold or warm.
Operation – continued
The recoil starter can be damaged by abuse.
Never pull the starter cord to its full length.
Always engage the starter before cranking the engine.
Always rewind the starter cord slowly.
To Start a Cold Engine
Follow these steps to start a cold engine:
1. Place the machine on a hard, level surface.
2. Set the choke lever to
3. Press the fuel pump (primer) (Fig. 1 / Item
9) 10 times.
4. Move the ON/OFF switch to “I”.
5. Secure the throttle lever. To do this, press
the throttle lever lock and then press the
throttle lever and lock the throttle lever by
pressing the locking knob (Fig. 2 / Item 7)
at the same time.
6.
Hold the machine by the front handle in
your right hand and pull the starter cable
(Fig. 3 / Item A) up to the first resistance
point (approx. 10 cm). Now pull the starter
cable four times quickly. The machine
should start.
Important: Do not release the starter cable so
that it whips back by itself. This may cause
damage.
7.
If the engine has started, set the choke
lever immediately to and allow the
machine to warm up for approx.
30 seconds.
WARNING:
•
Operating the machine with loose, missing or damaged components could allow the
engine to over-speed, possibly causing serious engine damage.
Inspect the entire machine for damaged, loose or missing components or fastenings
and repair as necessary.
CAUTION:
The hedge trimmer is supplied fully assembled. No assembly work is required.

12
Operation – continued
Starting a Warm Engine (the
machine has not been switched
off for more than 15 - 20 minutes)
1. Place the machine on a hard, level surface.
2. Set the ON/OFF switch to “I”.
3. Lock the throttle lever (as described in
“Starting the engine from cold”).
4.
Hold the machine by the front handle in
your right hand and pull the starter cable up
to the first resistance point (approx. 10 cm).
Now pull the starter cable quickly. The
machine should start after 1 - 2 pulls. If the
machine does not start after 6 pulls, repeat
steps 1-7 of the procedure for starting the
engine from cold.
Switching Off the Engine
Emergency Stop procedure:
If it becomes necessary to stop the machine
immediately, set the ON/OFF switch to “Stop”
or “0”.
Normal Procedure:
Let go of the throttle lever and wait until the
engine has changed to idling speed. Then set
the ON/OFF switch to “Stop” or “0”.
Adjusting the position of the
Handle
To make it easier to control, the machine is
fitted with a rotary handle that can be adjusted
as required into positions at angles -90º/-
45º/0º/+45º/+90º. See Fig 4.
Follow these steps to adjust the handle.
1. Pull the lever backwards.
2. Turn the rotary handle into the required
position and then allow the lever to lock at
the front again.
3. The various adjustable positions facilitate
working above head height or in other
places with different access.
Important: The rotary handle may only be
adjusted when the engine is switched off.
Practical tips: Never allow the machine to run
at low speed for starting or for cutting.
Cutting for dense growth: The most effective
method is to use wide, sweeping movements,
guiding the cutting edge of the blade straight
through the branches. A slight incline of the
blade downwards towards the movement will
produce best cutting results.
It is recommended to tie a guide line of string
or the like along the hedge so that you cut the
hedge to a level height. The branches above it
will be cut off.
To reduce the risk of injury from
blade contact, do not attempt to
“drop start” the hedge trimmer. Only
ever start the hedge trimmer on firm
flat ground or other solid surface.
WARNING:
Do not start the Hedge Trimmer with
the Blade Guards fitted.
WARNING:
NOTE: When starting the engine for the first
time, or after refueling, it may take longer for
the fuel to reach the engine and become
operational. You may need to repeat the steps
several times in order to start the engine. If the
engine will not start after repeated attempts,
you should open the throttle and choke fully,
and continue pulling the starter cord until the
motor starts, making sure there is no danger of
persons approaching the head while starting.

13
Operating the Hedge Trimmer
Do not cut any material other than hedges and
shrubs. The hedge trimmer must only be used
for the operations described in this Operator’s
Manual.
See Figs 5 and 6.
Follow these steps to use the Hedge Trimmer:
1. When trimming, the blade should be tilted
approximately 15 degrees towards the
hedge. Always trim from the bottom
upwards.
2. Trim the sides of the hedge first and then
trim the top.
3. If the branches are very long, they should
be cut back in several stages.
4. Make sure that there are no objects in the
hedge, such as railings, that could damage
the blade.
5. If the blade becomes jammed, always
turn off the engine and wait for the
hedge trimmer to cool before clearing
the obstruction.
6. Do not force the Hedge Trimmer to cut
over sized branches. These should be cut
by hand using secateurs or shears.
Operation – continued
Fig 5
Fig 6
Before using this Hedge Trimmer, make sure that you have read all of the safety
instructions.
WARNING:
Always hold your hedge trimmer with both hands. Never attempt to operate this
machine with one hand. Loss of control could result in serious or fatal injury.

Maintaining the Blades
■Use a resin solvent on the cutter blades.
Resin solvent protects the blades and has
anti-corrosive properties. Use the resin
solvent before and after work. Then start
and run the hedge trimmer briefly to ensure
even distribution along the blades.
■Check the condition of the cutting tool at
regular intervals. The cutter blades are high
quality, made of tempered steel and in
normal use there is no need to sharpen the
blades. If you accidentally strike a wire,
stone, glass or other hard object, this may
cause a notch in the blade. Replace
damaged or dull cutting blades
immediately even if they only have
superficial cracks.
■Never try to repair damaged blades by
welding, straightening or modifying the
shape. This may cause parts of the blade
to come off and result in serious or fatal
injuries.
BEFORE EACH USE:
■Remove dirt and debris from the product
exterior.
■Inspect the engine, tank and hoses for
possible fuel leaks and repair as necessary.
■Inspect the engine cooling fins for
accumulation of debris and clean as
necessary.
■Inspect the entire machine for damage,
loose and missing components or
fasteners and repair as necessary.
CLEANING THE PRODUCT:
■Stop the product before cleaning.
■Clean the exterior of the product with a
damp cloth.
■Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic
parts. Most plastics are susceptible to
damage from various types of commercial
solvents and may be damaged by their
use.
■Scrape debris away from air intake vents
on both sides of the motor housing.
Keeping air intake vents free of leaves
and debris prevents motor
overheating and possible failure.
CAUTION:
Maintenance – continued
15
NOTE: Depending on the type of fuel used, the
type and amount of oil used, and/or your
operating conditions, the exhaust port and
muffler may become blocked with carbon
deposits. If you notice a power loss with your
petrol powered tool, you may need to remove
these deposits to restore performance. We
highly recommend that only qualified service
technicians perform this service.
