Premier Technology NET 7000 User manual

Installation and Operating Instructions
Premier Technologies
NET 7000
Device Description:
The Net 7000 player stores audio in any of the standard mp3 audio
formats. Playing time is 7 to 14 minutes, depending on the mp3
encoding scheme that is used. The NET 7000 continuously plays the
near CD quality audio to a pair of RCA jacks. An 8 ohm and 6000 ohm
output are available from the amplifier for standard hook-up to the tele-
phone system’s music on hold port.
Mp3 Overview:
NET 7000 can play all mp3 formats as defined by MPEG 1 and 2,
layer2 and layer 3 and it can player the low bit rates as defined in
MPEG2.5. Most of these formats are fixed data rate, meaning that the
number of bits or bytes per second will change over time.
In general, when encoding the audio (creating the mp3), specify a
"mono" output file. Choose a bit rate and sample rate for the final mp3
file. Specify and control the source file that gets converted into the
final mp3 format.
Audio Play Time and Bit Rate:
The NET 7000 has 3.5 MB (megabytes) or 28 Mbits of flash memory
available for audio storage. Listed below are several bit rates versus
maximum play time:
Bit Rate Max play time Sound Quality
64 kbps 7 minutes, 15 seconds Near CD
48 kbps 9 mins, 40 seconds Much better than telephone
32 kbps 14 mins, 30 seconds Good telephone
**** CAUTION: The NET 7000 does not accept an audio file larger
than 3.5 MB
Important
Before using the Premier Information On Hold
unit, please read these operating instructions
carefully.
Overview:
The NET 70000 player is a device that stores
and continuously plays mp3 audio files. The
device receives audio and configurations
updated over the internet or intranet.
Connection to a Local Area Network is made
by a standard Ethernet interface on the unit.

Installation
1. Connect the unit to an Ethernet connection on the local area network.
2. Connect the included ear bud (head phone) to one of the RCA audio connectors.
3. Plug in the AC power adapter to power up the unit.
4. If the network operates a DHCP service, the unit will automatically receive a device IP address, along with the
gateway and DNS server addresses. If there is no DHCP service on the network, the unit will sniff the traffic for
local IP addresses in use, and will choose an unused temporary IP address. The NET 7000 will then audibly
announce the assigned or temporary IP address over the ear bud. The installer should write down this address
to accessing the unit’s configuration page.
5. The installer can now communicate with the unit from a computer on the Local Area Network. The installer uses
a standard web browser and types in the assigned or temporary IP address for the device. The installer will now
see a web page generated by the NET 7000 player. The Controls page (figure 1.1) displays setting for volume
and tone control. The Configuration page (figure 1.2) allows control of device IP address, gateway IP address,
content management server name, and DNS server IP address.
6. The installer connects the audio cable from the NET 7000 RCA connector to the music on-hold port on the
telephone system. The installer can adjust the on-hold audio volume by pressing the up/down volume buttons
on the NET 7000, or by using the LAN/WAN web page volume control (figure 1.1).
Content Management System (CMS)
The NET 7000 Content Management System is a web-based audio distribution application provided as a service by
Premier Technologies. Access to the CMS is secured by a user name and password. At the time of shipping, serial
numbers of NET 7000 units are entered into the dealer’s CMS account. The dealer creates customer groups and
assigns individual units to each group. Audio mp3 files are uploaded to the site by the dealer and assigned to a group.
Each audio file is assigned a date and time that it becomes available for download. The CMS manages the log-in com-
munication of devices and the sending of updated audio or configuration information to the NET 7000 players in the
field. The CMS generates reports for success and failure of audio updates, and identifies non-responding units.
