TheFLIGHTControllerisamodularelectroniccontrollersystemthatallowsyouto
operateyourpowerchair. It is designed toallowtheusertohavecompletecontrol
overchairmovement and speed.
The controller has been pre-programmed to meet a typical user’s needs. The
programis set using either apersonal computer with software providedby the
controllermanufacturer orwith ahand-held programmer, also providedby the
controllermanufacturer.
WARNING! The controller program can affect speed,
acceleration, deceleration, dynamic stability, and braking.
If it is programmed incorrectly or outside of the safe limits
as determined by your healthcare professional, it can create
a dangerous situation. Only the power chair manufacturer,
an authorized representative of the manufacturer, or a trained
service technician should program the controller.
PRECAUTIONARYGUIDELINES
Before operating the FLIGHT Controller, please read the following. These
guidelinesareprovided foryourbenefitand will aidyouin the safeoperationof
thecontrollersystem.
!Turnoffthe power tothecontrollerwhentransferring to orfromyourpower
chair.
!Followalloftheproceduresandheedthewarningsasexplainedinyourpower
chairowner’smanual.
Failure to heed the above warnings can result in personal injury and/or
equipmentdamage.

Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference (EMI/RFI)
WARNING! Laboratory tests have shown that electromagnetic
and radio frequency waves can have an adverse affect on
the performance of electrically-powered mobility vehicles.
ElectromagneticandRadioFrequencyInterferencecancomefromsourcessuchas
cellularphones,mobiletwo-wayradios(suchaswalkie-talkies),radiostations,TV
stations,amateurradio(HAM)transmitters,wirelesscomputerlinks,microwavesig-
nals,pagingtransmitters,andmedium-rangemobiletransceiversusedbyemergency
vehicles.Insomecases,thesewavescancauseunintendedmovementordamageto
thecontrolsystem.Everyelectrically-poweredmobilityvehiclehasanimmunity(or
resistance)toEMI.Thehighertheimmunitylevel,thegreatertheprotectionagainst
EMI.Thisproducthasbeentestedandhaspassedatanimmunitylevelof20V/m.
WARNING! Be aware that cell phones, two-way radios,
laptops, and other types of radio transmitters may cause
unintended movement of your electrically-powered mobility
vehicle due to EMI. Exercise caution when using any of these
items while operating your mobility vehicle and avoid coming
into close proximity of radio and TV stations.
WARNING! The addition of accessories or components to
the electrically-powered mobility vehicle can increase the
susceptibility of the vehicle to EMI. Do not modify your power
chair in any way not authorized by Pride.
WARNING! The electrically-powered mobility vehicle itself
can disturb the performance of other electrical devices
located nearby, such as alarm systems.
NOTE: For further information on EMI/RFI, go to the Resource Center on
www.pridemobility.com. If unintended motion or brake release occurs, turn
yourcontroller offassoon as itissafe to doso.Call Prideor your authorized
Pride Provider to report the incident.

Thejoystick is usedto controlthedirection andspeed of thepower chair.
!SpeedAdjustment
Theuser can increaseor decrease themaximum speed ofthe power chair.
!SleepMode
Thisfeatureisdesignedtopreservebatterycharge,andcanbedisabledthrough
programming.

TheFLIGHT Controllerisusedtooperateyourpowerchairandallofitscomponents.

Joystick Control
The joystick controls the direction and speed of your power chair. When you
movethejoystick from theneutral(center) position, theelectromagneticbrakes
releaseand allow your power chairto move. The farther youpush thejoystick
fromitsneutralposition,thefasteryourpowerchairmoves.Whenyoureleasethe
joystickandallowittoreturn to the neutralposition,youengagetheelectromag-
neticbrakes.This causes yourpowerchairto decelerate andcometoa complete
stop.

Thekeypadislocateddirectlyinfrontofthejoystick.Itcontainskeysthatyouwill
useto control yourpower chair. Seefigure2.
On/Off Key
Theon/offkeyturns the systemonandoff.
WARNING! Unless faced with an emergency situation, do
not use the on/off key to stop the chair. This will cause the
power chair to stop abruptly.
WARNING! Always turn the power off when you are stationary
to prevent unexpected movement.

Battery Condition Meter
Thebatteryconditionmeterconsistsoftenlightsarrangedinanarcovertheon/off
key.As the batteryvoltagedrops, the numberoflightsreduces from righttoleft.
Whenthe battery capacitydrops to 10%or below, theleft red LEDwill flash.
!LeftRedLEDFlashing:Batterycharge is low;chargethebatteriesassoon
aspossible.
!Right-to-LeftRippleofLEDs:FLIGHTisinlockmode;unlocktheFLIGHT.
!Left-to-RightRippleofLEDsAlternatingwithSteadyDisplay:FLIGHT
isinprogramming,inhibit,orchargingmode.
!RightGreenLED Flashing:FLIGHTisin speedlimitmode.
!AllLEDsFlashingContinuously:Thejoystickwasnotintheneutralposition
whenthecontrollerwasturnedon.Ifyouget“allLEDsflashingcontinuously,”
turnoffthe controller,allowthejoysticktoreturntotheneutralposition,then
turnonthecontroller.
!All LEDs Flashing Quickly (Code): The FLIGHT has detected a fault;
referto the Error Code table.
Speed Keys
There are two keys that control the speed. Press the speed increase key to in-
creasethe speed. Pressthe speed decreasekey to decreasethe speed.Thespeed
settingis displayedon thespeed settingindicator.If yourpower chair was pro-
grammedwith adrive profile,contact your authorizedPride Providerfor more
information.
NOTE: We recommend that the first few times you operate your power
chair, you set the speed to the slowest setting until you become familiar
with your new power chair.
Horn Key
Thehornkeyactivatesawarning horn.
CONTROLLERCONNECTOR
Thisconnects theFLIGHT to thepower modulelocated on thepower base.

OFF-BOARDCHARGER/PROGRAMMING SOCKET
Youmayuseanoff-boardchargertochargethepowerchairbatteriesthroughthe
3-pinsocketlocatedonthefront of theFLIGHT. If youuseanoff-boardcharger,
the charger current should not exceed 8 amps. Contact your authorized Pride
Providerformoreinformation.
WARNING! Only chargers with Neutrik NC3MX plugs should
be connected to the off-board charger/programming socket.
See your authorized Pride Provider for more information.
NOTE: The socket may also be used for reprogramming the FLIGHT.
Contact your authorized Pride Provider for more information.
LOCKMODE
The Flight controller is equipped with a feature that enables you to “lockout”
unauthorizedusers.
Tolock theFLIGHTcontroller:
1. While the power is on, press and hold the on/off key for 2 seconds. The
displaywillturnoffimmediately.After2seconds,allLEDswillflashbriefly
andthe horn willsound a shortbeep.
2. The FLIGHTcontrolleris nowlocked.
TounlocktheFLIGHTcontroller:
1. WhiletheFLIGHTislocked,presstheon/offkeytoturnontheFLIGHT.All
LEDswillflashbriefly.TheLEDswillthenslowlyripplefromrighttoleft.
2. PressthehornkeytwicebeforetheLEDripplehascompleted,approximately
10seconds. The FLIGHTis nowunlocked.
SLEEPMODE (IF ENABLED)
Thepowerchaircontrollerfeaturesasleep mode. Sleepmodeisabuilt-incircuit
thatwillautomaticallyshutoffthemainpowerifthejoystickisnotmovedinany
directionforaperiodof time.Thistimefactorisprogrammed into thecontroller.
To restore powerand continue,push anykey onthe keypad.

Refer to your power chair owner’s manual for proper cleaning and disposal
instructions.
WARRANTY
For two (2) years from the date of purchase, Pride will repair or replace at our
optiontotheoriginalpurchaser,freeofcharge,thecontrolleroranyofitscomponents
founduponexaminationbyan authorized representativeofPridetobedefective
inmaterialand/orworkmanship.
ERRORCODES
Thebattery condition meterwill flash errorcodeswhen theFLIGHTcontroller
detectsan abnormalconditionintheelectricalsystem.Allofthebatterycondition
meterLEDswillflashanumberoftimesquickly,thenpause,thenflashagain.The
batteryconditionmeterwillcontinue to flashtheerrorcodesuntilthe problem is
fixed.The table belowidentifiesthe individualerrorcodes. Ifanyof theseerror
codespersistorifyouexperience any other problemwithyourpowerchair,con-
tactyourauthorizedPride Provider.

to charge the batteries. The batteries
may need to be replaced.
3 Left Motor fault Check the left motor, connections,
and cabling.

and cabling.
5 Left Park Brake Fault Check the left park brake, connections,
and cabling.
6 Right Park Brake Fault Check the right park brake, connections,
and cabling.
7 FLIGHT Controller Module Fault Check the communications connections
and wiring.
8 FLIGHT Power Module Fault Check the communications connections
and wiring.
9 FLIGHT Communications Fault Check the communications connections
and wiring.
10 Unknown Fault Contact your authorized Pride Provider.
11 Incompatible Controller Fault Contact your authorized Pride Provider.
