INSTRUCTIONS FOR RETROFITTING THE DUAL LEVER FREEWHEEL SYSTEM
(FOR THE JAZZY 1101/1121)

Tools needed:
 wire cutters
 pliers
 standard wrench set
 flat head screwdriver
 Phillips head screwdriver
Installation instructions:
NOTE: Before performing this procedure, ensure the unit’s power is off
and that the unit is in the drive mode. Refer to the owner’s manual for
instructions.
NOTE: Figures show right side assembly only.
1. Remove the seat, shroud, batteries, and foot rigging from the power chair. Refer to
the owners manual.
. Remove the four (4) screws that hold the belly pan onto the frame and remove the
belly pan.
3. Remove the four (4) screws from the top of the electronics tray in the rear of the
chair. Slide the electronics tray to the side so that you have access to the charger.
Remove the two ( ) screws that attach the charger mounting bracket to the frame
and remove the chager.
4. At the rear of the power chair, cut the brake cable wires as close as possible to the
cable barrels and remove the nuts that hold the cables to the freewheel L-bracket.
See figure 1.
5. At the front of the power chair, cut both brake cable wires close to the motor release
weldment (A5) to disable the single brake release system. See figure .

6. Remove the cables from the power chair and discard.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the complete single lever freewheel assembly for the chair to operate
properly. The lever at the rear of the chair can remain attached to the unit without affecting the performance of
the new dual lever freewheel system.
7. Set a new motor release weldment (A5, figure 3) on each motor in the following order: spring (A7), pin (A9), flat
washer (A8), motor release weldment (A5), and setscrew (A6).
8. Install a new freewheel lever (A1/A ) onto the rear of each motor weldment. Install in the following order: black
zinc screw (A10), nylon washer (A1 ), lever (A1/A ), nylon washer (A1 ), motor weldment, flat washer (A13),
black jam nut (A11).
9. Connect a release rod (A3/A4) to the freewheel release lever and motor release weldment on each motor.
10. Test the configuration to ensure that lifting up on the lever puts the power chair into drive mode and pushing down
on the lever puts the power chair into freewheel mode.
11. Reinstall the belly pan, charger, electronics tray, foot rigging, shroud, and seat.
The dual lever freewheel system is now ready for use.
