GENERAL GUIDELINES
MANDATORY! Do not operate your new power chair for the first time without completely
reading and understanding this owner’s manual.
Your powerchairis astate-of-the-artlife-enhancement devicedesignedto increasemobility. Prideprovides an
extensivevarietyofproducts tobest fittheindividualneedsof thepower chairuser.Please beaware thatthe final
selectionand purchasingdecisionregarding thetype ofpower chair tobe used istheresponsibility ofthepower
chairuser,whois capable ofmaking sucha decision,and his/herhealthcare professional(i.e., medicaldoctor,
physicaltherapist,etc.).
Thecontentsofthismanualarebasedontheexpectationthatamobilitydeviceexperthasproperlyfittedthepower
chairtotheuserandhasassistedtheprescribinghealthcareprofessionaland/ortheauthorisedPrideProviderinthe
instructionprocess fortheuse oftheproduct.
Therearecertain situations,including somemedicalconditions,where the powerchairuserwill needto practice

Asyoubeginusingyourpowerchairduringdailyactivities,youwillprobablyencountersituationsinwhichyouwill
needsome practice.Simply takeyour timeand youwill soonbe infull andconfident controlas youmaneuver
throughdoorways, onandoff oflifts,up anddownramps, andovermoderate terrain.
Below are some precautions, tips, and other safety considerations that will help you become accustomed to
operatingthepowerchair safely.
Modifications
Pridehas designedand engineeredyourpower chairto providemaximum mobility andutility.Awiderangeof
accessoriesis availablefromyour authorisedPrideProvider tofurthercustomise yourpowerchair tobettersuit
yourneedsand/orpreferences.However,undernocircumstancesshouldyou modify,add,remove,or disable any
feature,part,or functionofyour powerchair.
WARNING! Do not modify your power chair in any way not authorised by Pride.
Pre-Ride Safety Check
Getto know thefeelof yourpowerchair anditscapabilities. Priderecommendsthatyou performasafety check
beforeeach usetomake sureyour powerchair operates smoothlyand safely.
Performthefollowinginspectionspriortousingyourpowerchair:
!Check forproper tyre inflation.Maintain 2.4bar(35psi)ineach tyreifequipped withpneumatic tyres.
!Checkall electricalconnections.Make suretheyare tightandnot corroded.
!Checkall controllerconnectionsto theelectronicstray.Make suretheyare securedproperly.
!Checkthe brakes.See IX. “Careand Maintenance.”
!Checkbattery charge.See VIII.“Batteriesand Charging.”

Weight Limitations
Yourpowerchairisrated fora maximumweight capacity.Please refer tothespecificationstablefor thislimit.
WARNING! Stay within the specified weight capacity of your power chair. Exceeding the
weight capacity voids your warranty. Pride will not be held responsible for injuries and/or
property damage resulting from failure to observe weight limitations.
WARNING! Do not carry passengers on your power chair. Carrying passengers on your
power chair may affect the centre of gravity, resulting in a tip or a fall.
Tyre Inflation
Ifyourpowerchairisequippedwithpneumatictyres,youshouldcheckorhavetheairpressurecheckedregularly.
Properinflationpressureswillprolongthelifeofyourtyresandhelpensurethesmoothoperationofyourpowerchair.
WARNING! It is important that 2.4 bar (35 psi) tyre pressure be maintained in pneumatic
tyres at all times. Do not underinflate or overinflate your tyres. Low pressure may result in
loss of control, and overinflated tyres may burst. Failure to maintain 2.4 bar (35 psi) tyre
pressure in pneumatic tyres at all times may result in tyre and/or wheel failure.
WARNING! Inflate your power chair drive tyres from a regulated air source with an available
pressure gauge. Inflating your tyres from an unregulated air source could overinflate them,
resulting in a burst tyre.
Incline Information
Moreand morebuildings have rampswith specifieddegrees ofinclination, designedfor easyand safeaccess.
Somerampsmay haveturningswitchbacks (180-degreeturns)thatrequire youtohave goodcorneringskills on
yourpowerchair.
!Proceedwith extremecautionas youapproachthe downgradeof arampor otherincline.
!Takewideswingswithyourpowerchair’sfrontwheelsaroundanytightcorners.Ifyoudothat,thepower chair’s
rearwheelswillfollowawidearc,notcutthecornershort,andnotbumpintoorgethunguponanyrailingcorners.
!When driving down a ramp, keep the power chair’s speed adjustment set to the slowest speed setting to
ensureasafely controlleddescent.
!Avoid sudden stopsand starts.
Whenclimbingan incline,tryto keepyourpowerchair moving.Ifyou muststop,startup againslowlyand then
acceleratecautiously.Whendriving downanincline, setyourpower chairtothe slowest settinganddrive inthe
forwarddirectiononly.Ifyour powerchair startstomovedown the inclinefasterthanyou anticipatedor desired,
allowit tocome toacomplete stopby releasingthe joystick,then push thejoystick forwardslightly toensure a
safelycontrolleddescent.
WARNING! When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of the
incline. Drive your power chair straight up the incline. This greatly reduces the possibility
of a tip or a fall. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! You should not travel up or down a potentially hazardous incline (i.e., areas
covered with snow, ice, cut grass, or wet leaves).
WARNING! When on any sort of an incline or decline, never place the power chair in
freewheel mode while seated on it or standing next to it.
WARNING! Never travel down an incline backward. Doing so may cause the power chair to
tip. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.

WARNING! Even though your power chair is capable of climbing slopes greater than those
illustrated in figure 1, do not, under any circumstances, exceed the incline guidelines or
any other specifications presented in this manual. Doing so could cause instability in your
power chair.
The grade of most handicap ramps is 8.7% (5°). Therefore, Pride recommends that the maximum grade of an
inclineyou attemptto safelyascend ordescend onyour powerchairdoes notexceed 8.7%(5°). Seefigure 1.
WARNING! Any attempt to climb or descend a slope steeper than 8.7% (5°) may put your
power chair in an unstable position and cause it to tip.
Freewheel Mode
Your powerchair isequipped witha manualfreewheel leverto allowfor manualmaneuverability bya trained
attendant.For more informationabout howto place yourpower chairinto and outof freewheelmode, seeIII.
“YourPowerChair.”
WARNING! Do not use your power chair in freewheel mode without an attendant present.
WARNING! Do not attempt to personally place your power chair in freewheel mode while
seated on it. Ask an attendant for assistance if necessary.
WARNING! Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline. The chair
could roll uncontrollably on its own.
Braking Information
Yourpowerchairis equippedwithtwopowerful brakesystems:
1. Regenerative—useselectricitytorapidlyslowthevehiclewhenthejoystickreturnstothecentre/stopposition.
2. DiscPark Brake—activatesmechanically afterregenerativebrakingslows thevehicleto near stop,orwhen
poweris removedfrom thesystemfor anyreason.
Cornering Information
Whileyourpower chair isequippedwithrear caster wheelsandfrontanti-tip wheels,excessively highcornering
speedscanstillcreate thepossibility oftipping. Factorswhich affectthepossibilityoftipping include,but arenot
limitedto: cornering speed,steering angle(how sharplyyou are turning), uneven roadsurfaces, inclinedroad
surfaces,riding from anarea oflow tractionto anarea ofhigh traction (suchas passingfrom agrassy areato a
pavedarea– especiallyathighspeedwhileturning),andabruptdirectionalchanges.Highcorneringspeedsarenot
recommended.Ifyou feelthatyoumay tipoverin acorner,reduce yourspeedandsteering angle(i.e.,lessen the
sharpnessofthe turn)topreventyour powerchairfromtipping.
WARNING! When cornering sharply, reduce your speed. This greatly reduces the possibility
of a tip or fall. Always exercise common sense when cornering.

Outdoor Driving Surfaces
Yourpowerchairis designedtoprovideoptimum stabilityundernormaldriving conditions—dry,level surfaces
composedof concrete, blacktop,or tarmac. However,Pride recognisesthat therewill be timeswhen youwill
encounterothersurfacetypes. For thisreason, yourpower chairis designedto performadmirably onpacked soil,
grass,and gravel.Feel freetouse yourpower chairsafely onlawnsand inpark areas.
!Reduceyourpower chair’sspeedwhen drivingonuneven terrainand/or softsurfaces.
!Avoid tallgrassthatcan entangletherunning gear.
!Avoid looselypackedgravel and sand.
!Ifyoufeelunsure abouta drivingsurface,avoidthatsurface.
Inclement Weather Precautions
Exposureofyourpowerchair toinclementweather conditionsshould beavoidedwhenever possible.If suddenly
caughtup in rain,snow, severecold orheat while operatingyour powerchair, proceedto shelterat theearliest
opportunity. Thoroughlydry yourpowerchairbeforestoring, charging,oroperating your powerchair.
WARNING! Operating in rain, snow, salt, mist/spray conditions, and on icy/slippery surfaces
can have an adverse effect on the electrical system. Maintain and store your power chair
in a dry and clean condition.
Stationary Obstacles (Steps, Kerbs, etc.)
Proceedwith extreme cautionwhen driving nearraised surfaces,unprotected ledges and/ordrop-offs (kerbs,
porches, stairs, etc.). Be sure your power chair is traveling perpendicular to any kerb you may be required to
navigate.Seefigure2.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair climb or descend an obstacle that is
higher than 5 cm unless you have the assistance of an attendant.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair proceed rearward down any step,
kerb, or other obstacle. This may cause the power chair to tip.

Public Streets and Roadways
WARNING! You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be
aware that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power
chair. Obey all local pedestrian traffic rules. Wait until your path is clear of traffic, and
then proceed with extreme caution.

Stairs and Escalators
Powerchairs arenot designedto travel upor downstairs orescalators. Always usealift.
WARNING! Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators.
Doors
!Determineif thedooropens towardoraway fromyou.
!Driveyour power chairgentlyand slowlyforwardto pushthedoor open.Ordrive yourpowerchair gently
andslowly rearwardto pull thedoor open.
Lifts
Modernliftshave adooredge safetymechanismthat, whenpushed, reopensthelift door(s).
!Ifyou areinthe doorwayof a liftwhen thedoor(s)begin toclose, push onthe rubberdooredge orallow the
rubberdoor edgeto contact thepower chairand thedoor willreopen.
!Usecare thathandbags, packages,or powerchair accessoriesdo notbecome caughtin lift doors.
Lift/Elevation Products
Ifyou willbe travelingwith yourpowerchair,you mayfind itnecessary tousea lift/elevationproduct toaid in
transportation.Priderecommendsthat you closelyreview theinstructions, specifications,and safetyinformation
setforthbythe manufacturer ofthe lift/elevationproduct beforeusing thatproduct.
WARNING! Never sit on your power chair when it is being used in connection with any type
of lift/elevation product. Your power chair was not designed with such use in mind and any
damage or injury incurred from such use is not the responsibility of Pride.
Motor Vehicle Transport
Priderecommendsthatyoudonotremainseatedinyourpowerchairwhiletravelinginamotorvehicle.Thepowerchair
shouldbestowedinthebootofacarorinthebackofatruckorvanwiththebatteriesremovedandproperlysecured.
WARNING! Do not sit on your power chair while it is in a moving vehicle. .
WARNING! Always be sure your power chair and its batteries are properly secured when it
is being transported.
Positioning Belts
YourauthorisedPride Provider, therapist(s),and other healthcareprofessionals areresponsiblefor determining
yourrequirementfor apositioningbeltin ordertooperateyour powerchairsafely.
WARNING! If you require a positioning belt to safely operate your power chair, make sure
it is fastened securely in order to reduce the possibility of a fall from the power chair.
WARNING! The positioning belt is not designed for use as a seat belt in a motor vehicle.
Nor is your power chair suitable for use as a seat in any vehicle. Anyone traveling in a
vehicle should be properly belted into seats approved by the vehicle manufacturer.

Batteries
Inadditiontofollowingthewarningsbelow,besuretocomplywithallotherbatteryhandlinginformation.Formore
informationaboutyour powerchair’sbatteries, seeVIII. “BatteriesandCharging.”
WARNING!Powerchairbatteriesare heavy. Seethe specificationtable.If youareunable tolift that
much weight, be sure to get help. Avoid lifting beyond your capacity.
WARNING! Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds.
Wash hands after handling.
WARNING!Always protectthe batteriesfromfreezing andnevercharge a frozen battery.Charging
a frozen battery may result in damage to the battery.
WARNING! Connect your battery harnesses in the proper manner. RED (+) cables must be
connected to positive (+) battery terminals/posts. BLACK (-) cables must be connected to
negative (-) battery terminals/posts. REPLACE cables immediately if damaged.
Removable Parts
WARNING! Do not attempt to lift or move a power chair by any of its removable parts, including
the armrests, seat, foot riggings, controller, and shrouds.
Preventing Unintended Movement
WARNING! If you anticipate being seated in a stationary position for an extended period
of time, turn off the power. This will prevent unexpected motion from inadvertent joystick
contact. This will also eliminate the possibility of unintended chair movement from
electromagnetic (EM) sources.
Reaching and Bending
Neverreach,lean,orbendwhiledrivingyourpowerchair.Ifitisabsolutelynecessarytoreach,lean,orbendwhile
seatedon yourpower chair, itis importantto maintaina stablecentre ofgravity andkeep thepower chairfrom
tipping.Priderecommends that thepowerchairuser determinehis/her personallimitationsandpractice bending
andreachinginthepresence ofaqualified healthcareprofessional.
WARNING! Do not bend forward, lean forward, or reach for objects if you have to pick
them up from the floor by reaching down between your knees. Such movements may
change your centre of gravity and the weight distribution of the power chair. This may
cause your power chair to tip.
WARNING! Keep your hands away from the tyres when driving. Be aware that loose fitting
clothing can become caught in drive tyres.

Transfers
Transferring onto and off of your power chair requires a good
sense of balance. See figure 4. Always have an attendant or
healthcareprofessionalpresentwhile learningto properlytrans-
feryourself.
Toeliminatethepossibilityofinjury,Pride recommends thatyou
ora trainedattendantperformthefollowingtasksbeforeattempt-
ingatransfer:
!Turn offthepowerto thecontroller.
!Ensureyour power chairis notin freewheelmode. See III.
“YourPowerChair.”
!Turn both caster wheels toward the transfer destination to
improvepowerchair stabilityduringtransfer.
!Makesurebotharmrestsareflippeduporremove fromyour
powerchair.
!Flip the foot platform up, or move the leg rests aside; this
will help to keep your feet from getting caught on thefoot
riggingsduringthetransfer.
!Reducethe distancebetweenyour powerchair and theobject youaretransferring onto.
WARNING! Before transferring, position yourself as far back as possible in the power
chair seat to prevent the power chair from tipping forward during transfer.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the power chair armrests and do not use the
armrests for weight bearing purposes, such as transfers. Such use may cause the power
chair to tip, resulting in a fall from the power chair.
WARNING! Avoid putting all of your weight on the foot riggings. Such use may cause the
power chair to tip.
Prescription Drugs/Physical Limitations
Usersmust exercise careand commonsense whenoperating apower chair.This includes awarenessof safety
issueswhentakingprescribed orover-the-counter drugsor whenthe userhas specificphysicallimitations.
WARNING! Consult your physician if you are taking prescribed or over-the-counter
medication or if you have certain physical limitations. Some medications and limitations
may impair your ability to operate your power chair in a safe manner.
Alcohol/Smoking
Thepower chairuser mustexercise careandcommon sensewhen operatinghis/her powerchair.This includes
awarenessofsafetyissueswhileundertheinfluenceofalcoholor while smoking.
WARNING! Do not operate your power chair while you are under the influence of alcohol,
as this may impair your ability to operate your power chair in a safe manner.

WARNING! Although the power chair seat has passed the necessary testing requirements
for cigarette smoke, Pride recommends that you adhere to the following safety guidelines:
!Do not leave lit cigarettes unattended.
!Keep ashtrays a safe distance from the seat cushions.
!Always make sure cigarettes are completely extinguished before disposal.
Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference (EMI/RFI)
WARNING! Laboratory tests have shown that electromagnetic and radio frequency waves
can have an adverse affect on the performance of electrically-powered mobility vehicles.
ElectromagneticandRadio FrequencyInterference cancomefromsources suchas cellularphones,mobiletwo-
way radios (such as walkie-talkies), radio stations, TV stations, amateur radio (HAM) transmitters, wireless
computerlinks,microwavesignals,pagingtransmitters,andmedium-rangemobiletransceiversusedbyemergency
vehicles.In somecases, these wavescan causeunintended movementor damageto thecontrol system.Every
electrically-poweredmobilityvehiclehasanimmunity (orresistance)to EMI.Thehigher theimmunitylevel, the
greatertheprotection againstEMI.This producthasbeen testedandhaspassed atanimmunity levelof20 V/m.
WARNING! Be aware that cell phones, two-way radios, laptops, and other types of radio
transmitters may cause unintended movement of your electrically-powered mobility vehicle
due to EMI. Exercise caution when using any of these items while operating your mobility
vehicle and avoid coming into close proximity of radio and TV stations.
WARNING! The addition of accessories or components to the electrically-powered mobility
vehicle can increase the susceptibility of the vehicle to EMI. Do not modify your power
chair in any way not authorised by Pride.
WARNING! The electrically-powered mobility vehicle itself can disturb the performance
of other electrical devices located nearby, such as alarm systems.
NOTE: For further information on EMI/RFI, visit the Resource Center on www.pridemobility.com. If
unintended motion or brake release occurs, turn your power chair off as soon as it is safe to do so.
Contact your authorised Pride Provider to report the incident.

Your power chair has two main assemblies: the seat and the power base. See figure 5. Typically, the seating
assemblyincludes thearmrests, seatback,andcontroller.Thepower baseassembly includestwodrive wheels,
twoanti-tip wheels,two rearcaster wheels, a power seatconnector (optional),harness connectors,and abody
shroud. Seefigures 5 and6.

Main Circuit Breaker:The main circuit breaker is a safety feature built into your power chair. When the

damageto themotorsand theelectronics.If thecircuittrips, allowyourpower chairto“rest” forapproximately

Dual Manual Freewheel Levers
Foryourconvenience,your powerchair isequippedwithdualmanualfreewheel levers.Dependingonthemotor
package, the levers are located on the inside of the anti-tip wheels or on each motor. The levers allow you to
disengagethedrivemotorsandmaneuverthechairmanually.
WARNING! Do not use the power chair while the drive motors are disengaged! Do not
disengage the drive motors when the power chair is on an incline, as the unit could roll on
its own! Only engage the freewheel mode when on a level surface.
WARNING! It is important to remember that when your power chair is in freewheel mode,
the braking system is disengaged.
To operatethedualmanual freewheellevers:
1. Locatethe leversontheinside oftheanti-tipwheels.
2. Pullup both manualfreewheelleversforfreewheel mode(drive motorsdisengaged). Seefigure 7.
3. Pushdown bothmanual freewheelleversfor drive mode(drivemotorsengaged). Seefigure8.
NOTE: If a lever is difficult to move in either direction, rock your power chair back and forth slightly.
The lever should then move to the desired position.
To operatethedual manual freewheellevers forhighspeed motors:
1. Locatethe leversbehindeachdrive wheel.
2. Pushdown bothmanual freewheellevers forfreewheelmode(drive motors disengaged).Seefigure9.
3. Pullup bothmanual freewheelleversfordrivemode (drivemotorsengaged).See figure 10.
NOTE: You must turn off the power before disengaging the drive motors, otherwise you may get an
error code on the controller. To clear this code, turn off the controller and place the power chair in
drivemode,then turnthecontroller backon.If thisdoesnot cleartheerror code,contactyour authorised
Pride Provider.
NOTE: The power chair will be significantly easier to push with the controller power turned off.
WARNING! Do not use the freewheel lever handles as tie-down points to secure this product.

Hammer Motor Package
Your powerchairis equippedwithtwo powerfulHammermotors. Theseareright anglemotorscapable ofpro-
ducing one horsepower of peak output each. Follow the suggestions below to help ensure peak motor perfor-
mance.
!Maintainan evenspeedwhen negotiatingobstacles.If youencountera situationwhereyou havestalledthe
motors,immediately release thejoystick.Adjust thecontrollerto ahigherdrive profileandattempt to move
overthe obstacle.If you stillencounter astall condition,back awayfrom theobstacle, thendrive forward,
maintainingmomentumasyounegotiateovertheobstacle.
WARNING! Prevent motor damage! Immediately release the joystick if the motors stall.
Failure to release the joystick within 5 seconds of motor stall may cause the motors to
overheat, resulting in damage to the motors, lack of motor performance, and/or increased
motor noise.

Active-Trac Suspension
Yourpowerchair isequippedwith Active-TracSuspension(ATS). ATSisasuspensionsystemdesigned to make
yourpowerchairtraversedifferent typesof terrainand obstacleswhile maintaining smoothoperation.WithATS,
thefrontanti-tipwheels workin conjunctionwiththemotorsuspension tohelp youmaneuver overobstacles.
Asyourfrontanti-tipwheelscomeincontactwith anobstacle,thefront anti-tipwheelassemblyis drawn upward.
At the same time, the motors are forced downward. This allows the motors to push the power chair over an
obstacleandlimitsthe possibility ofyour powerchair gettingcaught onthe obstacle.
ATSalsohelpsin day-to-dayoperatingconditions.For instance,whenyourelease thejoystickyourpower chair
beginstoslowdown. Asthechairslowsdown,thefrontanti-tipwheelswillautomaticallydroptowardtheground.
Thiswillreducetheforwardtip thatistypically encounteredwithcentre-wheel drivechairs.
Rear Suspension
Yourpowerchair isequippedwith rearsuspension.See figure11.This suspension systemworks inconjunction
withATS andis designedto maintaina smoothride whendriving overrough terrainand up anddown kerbs.This
system works by allowing the caster forks to respond to weight transfers and uneven terrain. The rear caster
wheelswillpivotasyoudriveoverobstacles.Thissystemalsoenhances performancewhenthe frontanti-tip wheels
areset lowerto thesurface.

Manual Park Brakes
Your power chair may be equipped with a manual park brake mounted on each drive motor.The manual park
brakes work in conjunction with the electromagnetic brakes to help prevent your power chair’s wheels from
movingwhenyourpower chairis parked.After yourelease thejoystick andyour wheelsare completelystopped,
pushthemanual parkbrakelever downtoengageit. Seefigure12. To disengagethemanual park brake,pullthe
manualpark brakeleverup. Seefigure 13.
WARNING! Do not attempt to use either manual park brake lever to stop your power chair.

InitialAssembly
Yourpowerchair mayrequiresome assemblyeitherbefore initial useorafter transportation. Itmayalso requre
disassemblytomakesome comfort adjustments.
Euro Seat Installation (Standard)
Itmay benecessaryto installtheseat eitherprior to initialoperation oraftertransporting yourpowerchair. The
standardseat installationmethodincorporates four(4)adjustable seattowerslocated onthe seat frameand four
(4)seat mountconnectors located on the powerbase.
NOTE: Any nylon insert lock nut removed during the disassembly or adjustment of the power chair
must be replaced with a new nut. Nylon insert lock nuts should not be reused as it may cause damage to
the nylon insert, resulting in a less secure fit. Replacement nylon insert lock nuts are available at local
hardware stores or through your authorised Pride Provider.
NOTE: Pride recommends that a minimum
of two people install the seat.
NOTE: If your power chair is equipped with
a Synergy Seat or a TRU-Balance Power
Positioning System, refer to the information
provided in separate manuals.
To installtheEuroSeat:
1. Remove the retaining clips from each seat
mountconnectoronthepowerbase.Seefig-
ure14.
2. Liftthe seatframe overthe powerbase and
lineupeachseattowerwithaseatmountcon-
nector.
3. Slidetheseattowersintotheseatmountcon-
nectorsandsecurewith theretaining clips at
thedesiredheight.
4. Route the controller cable to ensure that it
cannotbe pinched intheseat frame.
5. Plugthe controller connector into theelec-
tronicstray.Seefigure 6.
6. Securethecontroller cableto the armrestre-
ceiverwithone ormorewire ties.
