DIM Module Installation Guide
To Prevent Accidents
• Be sure water, liquids or metal particles are not allowed to enter the unit. Any of
these may cause either a breakdown or an electrical shock.
• Do not place or store this unit in a location where there is direct sunlight, exces-
sive heat, dust or vibration.
• Do not store or operate this unit near chemicals, or where there are chemical fumes.
• Do not use the DIM module in locations where corrosive gasses are present.
• Be careful of static electricity when removing the DIM module from its static-
resistant package.
• Be sure not to touch the DIM module’s contact terminals. Touching them with a
bare finger can lead to corrosion.
• Be sure to check that the PL/PS-B unit’s power is disconnected
before installing the unit, in order to prevent an electrical shock.
• Do not attempt to modify the DIM module, due to the dangers of
shock and fire.
• When installing the DIM module, be sure to read this guide’s
sections 1. and 2. completely to insure that the DIM module is
correctly installed.

The DIM module is memory module made by Pro-face for use with its PL Series
Panel Computers
(hereafter referred to as the "PL") and Built-in Computers (hereafter
referred to as the "PS-B").
Unit Disposal
• When the product is disposed of, it should be done so according to your country's
regulations for similar types of industrial waste.

Package Contents
Be careful when removing the rear maintenance cover for PL-5900/PL-
5910/PL-X920 Series Units. It is made from aluminum and is easily
bent.
Removing the Cover

For PL-5900/PL-5910 Series Units
2) Remove the rear maintenance cover
by lifting the cover in the direction
shown.
1) Unscrew the four (4) attachment
screws used to secure the rear
maintenance cover and half cover
in place.

3) Remove the rear maintenance
cover.
Refer to your PL unit’s User Manual for information about removing the
Rear Maintenance Cover.

1) Unscrew the four (4) attachment
screws used to secure the rear
maintenance cover and half
cover in place.
Remove the rear main-
tenance cover first,
then the half cover.
2) Pivot the half cover open and lift
up slightly to free the guide tabs.
Next, remove the half cover.

1) Lay the PS-B unit on its side and
unscrew the four (4) cover at-
tachment screws.
2) Slide the cover horizontally in
the direction shown by the
arrow (see diagram) and lift it
up from the PS-B unit.

You can also remove only the maintenance cover and install the DIM module.
To do this, please perform the following steps.
1)Loosen the two (2)
maintenance cover
attachment screws.
2)Tilt the maintenance cover up
as shown by the arrow a and
lift it out in the direction shown
by the arrow b (see diagram). a

Installing the DIM Module

Since DIM module sockets are fragile and can break easily, be sure to
install the DIM module carefully.
The PL unit has two (2) module sockets and the PS-B unit has one (1). Use the fol-
lowing procedure to install a DIM module in your PL/PS-B unit.
WARNINGS
To prevent an electric shock or PL/PS-B unit damage, confirm
that the PL/PS-B unit’s power switch has been turned OFF be-
fore installing the DIM module.
WARNINGS
Be aware that commercial DIM module specifications may differ from mod-
ules made by Digital Electronics Corporation and their performance cannot
be guaranteed.
Since static electricity can damage sensitive electronic parts, be careful
when installing a DIM module.
To prevent damage from static electricity, be sure to wear a wristband,
or similar static protection device when installing the memory module. If
no wristband is available, please touch the PL/PS-B unit’s metal chassis
prior to installing the module to stabilize your body’s electrical potential.

5) Push the DIM module down until
the ejector tabs lock.
6) Replace the PS-B unit's cover and
reattach all four (4) attachment
screws. The torque should be 0.6
to 0.8 N•m. If you used only the
maintenance cover, replace that
cover and fasten the its (2) attach-
ment screws. The torque should
be 0.5 to 0.6 N•m.
4) Insert the DIM module into the
socket.

that they fit the Alignment Pins.

1) Remove the PL/PS-B unit’s cover.

2) Install the DIM module in the empty
socket.
