1. Introduction
1.1. About HDMI Matrix Switcher System
MHD series Matrix switcher is a high-performance digital signal switcher that can be
used for cross switching of multi computer and audio signal. Independent HDMI
component and I/O terminals make each component signal transmit and switch
separately; this design can reduce attenuation of signal transmission to minimum and
output the image and audio signal in high-fidelity quality.
MHD series switcher mostly apply in broadcasting TV engineering, multi-media meeting
room, big screen display engineering, television education, command control center and
other fields. With RS232 interface, it can be worked with PC, remote control system and
any other far-end control system devices.

HDMI 1.4a, support 3D.
HDTV compatible with High Definition Transmission resolution up to
1920*1200@60Hz.
HDCP Compliant and DVI compatible, supporting DVI1.0.
Powerful EDID management.
Three ways for system controlling: RS232, IR remote and the front panel.
RS232 serial control port, easy for serial commands and third-part control.
Optional TCP/IP control (works with PTNET).
Front panel security lock to avoid unauthorized use when the matrix is installed in an

With the gain compensation technique and the synchronous signal correction

4. Operations of the Control panel and the IR Remote
4.1. Operation of the Control Panel

Description of the Buttons:
Buttons
Function Description
INPUTS
Input buttons. It is the number of every input channel, ranging
from "1" to "8".
OUTPUTS
Output buttons. It is the number of every output channel, ranging
from "1" to "8".
AV
AV synchronal button: To transfer video and audio signal
synchronously by the switcher.
Example: To transfer both the video and the audio signals from
input channel No.3 to output channel No.4.
Operation: Press buttons in this order “3”, “AV”, “4””.
INITIAL
INITIAL button: To take the restore factory EDID management.
EXTERNAL
EXTERNAL button: To take the manually EDID switching.
Example: To copy the EDID data of the display on output
channel No.2 to the input channel No.3.
Operation: Press buttons in this order: “2” in INPUT area,
“EXTERNAL”, and then “3” in OUTPUT area.
ALL
All button: To transfer an input channel to all output channels.
Example1: To transfer video and audio signals from input
channel No.7 to all output channels.
Operation: Press buttons in this order “7”, “ALL”.
Example2: To transfer all input signals to the corresponding
output channels respectively. In another word, to switch to this
status: 1->1, 2->2, 3->3, 4->4……8->8.
Operation: Press buttons in this order “ALL”, “THROUGH”.
UNDO
Undo button: To resume to the status before the command just
performed.

Backspace button: To backspace the latest input button.
THROUGH
Through button: To transfer the signals directly to the
corresponding output channels.
Example: To transfer the signals from input channel No. 3 to their
corresponding output channels.
Operation: Press buttons in this order “3”, “THROUGH”.
Switching Operation:
With the front control panel, the switcher could be control directly and rapidly by
pressing the buttons under below format.
“Input Channel” + “Menu” +“Output Channel ”
1) “Menu”: “AV”, “INITIAL”, “EXTERNAL”
2) “Input Channel”: Fill with the number of input channel to be controlled.
3) “Output Channel”: Fill with the number of output channels to be controlled.
4.2. Usage of the IR Remote
With the infrared IR remote, the matrix switcher could be control remotely. As the
function buttons on the IR remote are the same with the ones on the front panel, the IR
remote shares the same operations and commands with the control panel.
The operation order of the IR remote is showed as follows.

5.2. How to Connect with the Input and Output Terminals
The HDMI matrix switchers may take DVD players, computers, graphic workstations
and digital showing platform as their input signal source, and projectors, video recorders,
displayers and amplifiers as their output signal destinations according to different
situation.

5.1. Connection of RS232 Communication Port
Except the front control panel, the HDMI matrix switcher can be control by far-end
control system through the Ethernet control via the RS232 communication port.
5.3. Connection with Control System
With the RS232 port, the HDMI matrix switchers can be control by several kinds of
control systems. This RS232 communication port is a female 9-pin D connector. The
definition of its pins is as the table below.

5.4. Connection with Computer
When the switcher connects to the COM port of the computer with control software,
users can control it by that computer.
To control the switcher, users may use the public COM software.
Please refer the details in Communication Protocol and Command Codes.

6. System Diagram
In MHD switcher series, the numbers of the input/output ports are based on the product
bought by the users. For example, MHD88 has eight input ports and eight output ports,
numbered from one to eight. According to different occasions, users can connect it to
different source signal (computer signal, AV signal etc.) devices, such as DVD player,
desktop computer, graphic workstation, digital stage etc. And connect the output ports to
a projector, a video recorder, a displayer or an amplifier. The system diagram of MHD88
is showed as below.

7. Operation of the EDID management
MHD matrix switcher is built in the EDID management database. The EDID
management can be automatically shake hand, manual exchanged, or factory restore.
7.1. EDID automatically shake hand
The MHD matrix switcher is built in the EDID data, which can communicate with the
displayers and video source automatically. When the displayers or video sources are
connected to the MHD matrix switcher, they will share the EDID/DDC information with
the matrix switcher.
