To complete the Quanser Q2-USB set up, you will need the following:

Note: The Quanser Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) Toolkit must be
installed after LabVIEW. See the RCP Toolkit Installation Guide for

Install Data Acquisition Device
STEP 4
The installation procedure for the Quanser Q2-USB is shown below. See the User Manual for more information.
Using the 2.0 USB cable,
connect the USB connector
on the Q2-USB DAQ device to a
USB 2.0 port on the computer.
Using the RCA to RCA cable,
connect Analog Output
Channel #0 (AO #0) on the
Q2-USB device to the Analog
Input Channel #0 (AI #0).

Windows1should automatically
detect the presence of the
Q2-USB and attempt to install
the driver.

Upon completion, Windows
will notify you that the
device is ready for use.

Make sure your computer
is powered ON and you are
logged on.
Conrm that the software
add-ons listed in Step 3
have been installed.

Touch any metal part of the
computer to discharge any
static electricity.
Running the DAQ Test
STEP 5
Make sure your PC is powered
ON and that you connected
the RCA to RCA cable.
Go to the block diagram
(CTRL-E) and double click on
the HIL Initialize Express VI.
Verify that the Status LED is bright green on
the Q2-USB board. Otherwise, consult the
Troubleshooting section at the end of this guide.

Go through the procedure below to test your Quanser Q2-USB and make sure it is working properly.
Click on the STOP
button to stop
running the VI.
When manually moving
the Analog Output Signal
Knob of the VI, both
Analog Input and Analog
Output scopes should
display the same trace.
If not, go to the Trouble-
shooting section.

Click on the
OK button.

Go to the Front Panel of the VI (CTRL-E).

1. In LabVIEW, open the NI Example Finder by selecting
Find Examples... from the Help Menu
2. In the NI Example Finder dialog, when browsing according
to Task, open the Toolkits and Modules/Quanser Rapid
Control Prototyping/Hardware folder.
3. Double-click on the RCP CL HIL Analog Loopback
Example.lvproj LabVIEW project to open the RCP example.
In the RCP CL HIL Analog Loopback Example.lvproj example,
double-click on the RCP CL HIL Analog Loopback Example.vi fi le
listed under My Computer.
Review the following recommenations before contacting Quanser’s technical support engineers
TROUBLESHOOTING
Getting ‘VI Missing‘
messages when
opening the
Q2-USB Test.
When performing
the Q2-USB Test,
the scopes do not
read anything.
Obtaining this error:
An operating system
specic kernel-level
driver for the specied
card could not be
found. The card or
driver may not be
installed.
The Status LED
on the Q2-USB
is not lit.
A. Make sure you installed the LabVIEW™ add-ons listed in Step 3, such as the Quanser
Rapid Control Prototyping Toolkit®.
A. Make sure you made the RCA to RCA loopback cable connection on the terminal board,
as described in connection Step 4F.
B. Verify that you selected the Q2-USB device in HIL Initialize in the Q2-USB Test.
C. Unplug the USB 2.0 cable from the Q2-USB port and plug it back in.
D. Check that the Status LED is lit bright green on the Q2-USB device. If not, go to the
troubleshooting step below.
A. Verify that you selected the Quanser Q2-USB device in HIL Initialize in the Q2-USB Test.
B. Check that the Status LED is lit bright green on the Q2-USB device. If not, go to the next
troubleshooting step below.
C. Verify that the Q2-USB-A and Q2-USB-B devices show up in Device Manager under the
Universal Serial Bus controllers item. If not, make sure the software listed in Step 3
are installed.
A. Make sure to connect the supplied USB 2.0 cable from the Q2-USB board to an enabled
USB 2.0 port on the computer. Refer to Step 4D.
B. Verify that the USB 2.0 cable is fi rmly connected in both the Q2-USB connector and the
computer USB port.
