OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Care should be taken to follow the procedure below; failure to do so may
result in personal injury and or damage to the machine.
NEVER TOW DISCS IN THE TRANSPORT POSITION WITHOUT
THE LOCKING PINS IN PLACE.
Tractor Linkage To The Machine
Ensure that the height of the tractor drawbar is approximately the same
height as the drawbar of the machine when the machine is standing on the
ground with the frame and drawbar parallel to the ground.
The height of the drawbar of the machine may be adjusted by using the
holes provided in the frame. This will mean that when in work, the
height of the tractor drawbar is approximately 100mm higher than the
machines drawbar.
Adjustment For Levelling The Frame
The level of the frame of the machine may be adjusted by means of the
spring loaded telescopic screw. The frame should be approximately
parallel to the ground when the machine is in work.
When in work the screw allows balanced compressions of the springs on
each side of the articulating block.

TO UNFOLD THE HARROW
ENSURE THE MACHINE IS PARKED ON FIRM LEVEL
GROUND
1. Fully raise the machine.
2. Remove all four locking pins.
3. Ensure hydraulic changeover valve is in the fold position.
4. Release hydraulic safety latches
5. With tractor engine at idle speed unfold wings of harrow.
TO FOLD THE HARROW .
Ensure the machine is in the fully raised position and then reverse the
unfold procedure.
NEVER LOWER THE HARROW WHILST IN THE TRANSPORT
POSITION, WITHOUT THE STANDS FITTED.
TRANSPORTING THE APX-RS.
Always transport with the harrow in the folded position, with the
transport pins fitted and the hydraulic safety latches down.
Customers that have the larger 445/45 19.5 wheels fitted should be aware
that the transport width of the Tinemaster is now over 3.00m
DO NOT TRANSPORT THE APX-RS IN THE FULLY RAISED
POSITION. LOWER HALF WAY FOR TRANSPORTATION
OTHERWISE SWAYING MAY OCCUR AND THE MACHINE
MAY BECOME UNSTABLE.

Setting The Angles Of The Disc Gangs
When setting into work we suggest that the angle of the discs is initially
set as follows:
Front Discs: Set to the 3rd hole from the front
Rear Discs: Set to the 3rd hole from the rear
From this position ‘opening’ the discs (moving the front discs further
forward and the rear discs further back) will increase the cutting action.
‘Closing’ the discs (moving the front discs backwards and the rear discs
forwards) will reduce the cutting action.
If the discs leave a ridge or depression in the middle, carry out the
following minor adjustments.
To remove a ridge:
OPEN up the front set of discs by 1 or 2 holes.
To remove a depression:
CLOSE up the front set of discs by 1 or 2 holes.
Adjusting The Discing Depth
The discing depth is adjusted by moving the depth stop on the slide which
is situated on the rearmost wheel lift cylinder.

Maintenance
Tighten All Bolts & Check Regularly
It is important that all bolts are checked for tightness after each days work
(8 hours) and again at the end of the season before putting into storage.
Regularly check that the disc gang pivot bolt to the main frame is tight.
The nut is retained in position by a grub screw which must be loosened
before tightening the nut. Ensure that the grub screw is retightened after
adjustment of the pivot bolt has been made.
Each gang of discs is fitted with a shaft nut and locking plate.
Regularly check these shaft nuts and make sure they are kept very tight-
use the special spanner supplied with the machine. This spanner also fits
the pivot bolt nut.
Lubrication
Grease with:SHELL RETINAX A
Or equivalent product
TOTAL MULTIS EP
Grease all nipples before starting work with the machine and every 8
hours thereafter.
It is important not to over grease the shaft bearing assemblies and ‘blow
the seals’. These bearing assemblies are triple sealed conical bearings and
as such do not need excess greasing. Excess greasing of these assemblies,
and the resulting ‘blowing of the seals’ will encourage dirt into the
housing. This will eventually result in the failure and collapse of the
bearing unit.
The undercarriage linkage assembly requires the most frequent amounts
of greasing.

Tyre Pressure
Regularly check all tyre pressures to maintain the correct pressure
445/45 R19.5 Tyres – 116 psi (8 bar)
295/60 R22.5 Tyres – 116 psi (8 bar)
Hydraulics
Keep all hydraulic connections clean.
When leaving the discs for any length of time, ensure that the wheels are
fully raised allowing the hydraulic cylinder piston to be fully housed.
Check the operating bar on the hydraulic depth stop and maintain a
minimum 2mm gap between the rod end and plunger when the rod is
clear of the wheels.
Lateral Wheel Clearance.
Check regularly for the lateral wheel clearance and to adjust, take off the
hub cap at the end of the axle, remove the split pin, adjust the nut lightly
until clearance has been eliminated. Replace the split pin and cap. Take
this opportunity to grease the hub.
FOR TROUBLE FREE USE – KEEP ALL BOLTS TIGHT AND
ALL LINKAGES GREASED!

wait for the complete stop of any moving parts
Before starting to operate the machine read the advice and safety instructions
given in the handbook. Before each use, check all the protection devices and
tightness of bolts.
Outlines the greasing instructions and frequency for tightening
bolts.
Indicates where grease nipples are located that need greasing.

TO CHANGE THE BEARINGS ON A DISC SHAFT
For safety it is best to work on the disc harrow when it is positioned on a
hard, even surface e.g. concrete. Take the weight of the depth wheels and
set the machine down on the gangs.
1. Remove either the locking tab or locking plate on the shaft nut.
2. With the spanner supplied with the machine, loosen off the shaft nut
but do not remove it!
3. Loosen off the 2 bearing bolts and remove the nuts.
4. With the machine connected to the tractor, raise the machine with the
hydraulics to a height of approximately 2.5cm (1 inch)
5. Check the ends of all the grease nipples on the gang. This may involve
moving the dropped gangs with a jemmy bar to clearly align the
grease nipples of the fixing bracket holes. Once this has been
achieved, raise the machine a future 2 to 3 inches. Roll the discs clear
of the machine.
6. Remove the shaft nut and locking collar.
7. Remove all discs and bearings necessary to gain access to the
damaged items. Note: Always stack removed discs and bearings in
the same order they came off
8. For rebuilding reverse steps 7,6,5 & 4. Then slacken off the bolts on
the top of the fixing bracket (number 1 on the diagram) but do not
remove the nuts.
9. Lower the machine fully onto the bearings and tighten the 2 bolts.
Ensure that the shaft nut is fully tightened and only then should you
tighten the fixing brackets top bolts. This is necessary so that the
bearings, shaft and discs find their natural alignment.
10.Check that the discs turn with no tight spots.
11.Once completed check all the nuts and bolts and then grease the
bearings if necessary. After approximately 6 hours work check all nuts
and bolts again – it may also be necessary to tighten the shaft nut
again.
