1 Introduction
1.1 Information on this manual
This document is a version of the installa-
tion instructions. Please note the respec-
tive version and date.
This manual describes the configuration
and mounting of the WiFi adapter. The
WiFi adapter is available for the following
devices:
niVario
niVario Pro
Read this manual completely before carry-
ing out the installation. The manual enables
safe handling of the devices and correct in-
stallation.
The figures in this manual are examples
only and may differ from the kit.
2 Safety
2.1 General safety information
The unit is designed so that
it does not pose a danger
when installed correctly.
This manual describes
proper installation of the
device.
nObserve the safety information in the
installation manual of the device that
the WiFi adapter is to be connected to.
nObserve the relevant country-specific
and local regulations and standards in
your country.
nThe device should only be connected
in accordance with the installation
manual and the information on the
type plate.
2.2 Intended use
The WiFi adapter is only designed for use
in commercial kitchens.
The WiFi adapter enables connection to
wireless networks .
3 Product description
NOTE
The WiFi adapter has FCC approval.
With the WiFi adapter, the function scope
of the devices can be expanded with 2 ad-
ditional functions:
a. Connection to a WiFi Access Point
[ Figure 01].
b. Repeater mode [ Figure 02].

The WiFi adapter has three status LEDs.
The lit colors indicate the status of the rel-
evant functions:

4.1 Mounting the WiFi adapter
DANGER
High voltages during connection to the
power grid
Danger to life when working with high
voltage.
nDisconnect the connection from the
power supply.
nEnsure that the unit is de-energized.
Mounting the WiFi adapter
iVario, iVario Pro
aMake sure that the unit which the WiFi
adapter is to be connected to is
switched off and disconnected from
mains power.
aThe electrical compartment is open.
1. Screw both antennas on the WiFi
adapter.
2. Punch out one of the perforations for
the cable gland with a suitable tool
[ Figure 11].
3. Mount the cable gland on the punched
out position. Feed the cable with both
connectors through the cable gland.
4. Connect the power supply to the I/O
card [ Figure 12].
5. Set up the WiFi adapter (see 4.2 Set-
ting up the WiFi adapter).
6. Connect the Ethernet cable to the in-
side of the control panel on the CPU
circuit board [ Figure 13] or the
outer Ethernet port [ Figure 14].
7. Feed the cable out of the unit. Roll up
the cable outside the unit.
8. Mount the WiFi adapter in a suitable
position [ Figure 08].
>The WiFi adapter can be fixed or
screwed in selected positions. We
recommend mounting it in the cen-
ter on the rear of the stand or
mounting on the wall.
4.2 Setting up the WiFi adapter
DANGER
High voltages during connection to the
power grid
Danger to life when working with high
voltage.
nWork on the switched-on unit with
the electrical compartment open
may only be carried out by trained
personnel.
nWork on the switched-on device
may only be carried out with suitable
protective clothing.
4.2.1 Use as a WiFi client adapter
aThe electrical compartment is open.
aThe device is switched on.
1. Connect the Ethernet cable of the WiFi
adapter to a computer.
2. Ensure that the WiFi on the computer
is deactivated during the configura-
tion.
Logging in
1. In a web browser, open the address
https://192.168.11.1 or a different pre-
viously set IP address. Accept the nec-
essary certificates.

2. Enter the user name and the password
on the screen. The user name is set as
root
and the password as
Rational
as
standard [ Figure 15].
>Press the
Login
button.
NOTE
Change the initial password to prevent
misuse
During the first configuration, set a new
password in the System /
Administration menu.
Connecting the adapter with a WiFi
Access Point
NOTE
The network type during connection
must be taken into account
The WiFi adapter can not be used in a
captive portal (e.g. a guest WiFi) or a
WPA2-Enterprise-based WiFi network.
1. In the Network/WiFi menu, press the
Browse
button [ Figure 16].
2. Select the desired network. Confirm
the network with the
Join Network
button.
3. In the
WPA key
input line, enter the
WiFi password [ Figure 17]. Con-
firm the entry with the
Submit
button.
4. Confirm the entry with the
Save
but-
ton.
5. Confirm with the
Save & Apply
button.
>The signal strength of the selected
WiFi is shown in the overview
[ Figure 18]. If the password has
been entered incorrectly, 0% ap-
pears in the overview. The process
must be repeated from point/line
1. The settings can be changed by
pressing the
Edit
button.
6. Carry out a test. Open any web ad-
dress in your browser.
7. Connect the Ethernet cable to the Eth-
ernet interface on the device.
8. Close the electrical compartment.
9. Activate the network settings of the
device DHCP.
10. Restart the device.
>> The device is connected to WiFi.
1. Activate the ConnectedCooking option
in the settings for the device.
>> You will receive an activation code for
registering the unit in Connected-
Cooking. Further information on Con-
nectedCooking is available in the Con-
nectedCooking manual.
4.2.2 Use as a repeater for expanding
the existing WiFi coverage
NOTE
Repeater mode requires a permanent
power supply
To enable the repeater mode to be
used, the device must be switched on
with the connected WiFi adapter.
NOTE
Number of connected units in Repeater
mode
Only a limited number of units can be
connected with the WIFI adapter in
Repeater mode:
nWith iVario or iVario Pro: max. 10
units

In this operating mode, the WiFi adapter
extends the coverage of an existing WiFi
network. Here, the WiFi adapter provides
its own wireless network in addition to the
existing network. This network has a sepa-
rate SSID, a separate password and pro-
vides addresses from the address range
192.168.2.2 – 192.168.2.254 via its own
DHCP service.
Requirements
aThe electrical compartment is open.
aThe unit is switched on.
aThe settings for }Use as a WiFi client
adapter have been carried out.
1. Connect the Ethernet cable of the WiFi
adapter to a computer.
2. Ensure that the WiFi on the computer
is deactivated during the configura-
tion.
Logging in
1. In a web browser, open the address
https://192.168.11.1 or a different pre-
viously set IP address. Accept the nec-
essary certificates.
2. Enter the user name and the password
on the screen. The user name is set as
root
and the password as
Rational
as
standard [ Figure 15].
>Press the
Login
button.
Configuration
1. In the Network/WiFi menu, press the
Add
button [ Figure 19].
2. Enter the name for the extended WiFi
in the ESSID field [ Figure 20].
>The mode must be set as
Access
Point
.
3. Select the
WiFi Encryption
tab. Select
the button on the right next to the
password field to display the pre-set
password [ Figure 21]. Note down
the password in a secure place. Con-
firm the entries with the
Save
button.
>A new network appears in the WiFi
overview [ Figure 22].
4. Confirm with the
Save & Apply
button.
5. Test the connection. Disconnect the
Ethernet cable and connect the laptop
with the new WiFi. Enter the SSID and
the password noted down in the pre-
vious step.
>A website can be opened.
6. Connect the Ethernet cable in the de-
vice.
7. Close the electrical compartment.
>> The generated WiFi can be used by
other WiFi adapters and devices in
WiFi client mode. For this, the config-
uration must be carried out with the
created SSID and the noted password.
4.2.3 Changing the IP address
NOTE
Connection test fails despite adequate
signal strength
If the WiFi adapter has the same IP
address as the access point, the
connection test will fail despite good
signal strength and correct
configuration settings of the WiFi
network.
Remove the IP address conflict:
nCheck the IP address set on the
access point.
nChange the IP address set on the
WiFi adapter.

1. Log in to the menu.
2. Set a different IP address in the main
menu under
Menu – System – LAN IP
address
.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
>Use the newly set IP address to ac-
cess the web interface of the WiFi
adapter.
>> Repeat the connection test.
4.2.4 Testing the WiFi adapter
NOTE
Test the connection of the WiFi
adapter. If incorrect settings have been
made, the settings must be adapted or
the WiFi adapter must be reset.
nUse the magnet (Reed contact) to
reset the WiFi adapter.
4.2.5 Configuration of the WiFi adapter
via the wireless network provided
In repeater mode, changes can be made
wirelessly to the configuration via the
wireless network provided. To do this,
carry out the login from the end device
connected to the wireless network pro-
vided (see }Use as a repeater for expand-
ing the existing WiFi coverage). Carry out
the changes.
4.3 Reset to default settings
The WiFi adapter is reset to the default
settings using a magnet. To reset the WiFi
adapter, hold the magnet briefly in the
middle between the two antennas above
the LEDs until they flash at the same time.
Then wait a few seconds and start again
with the configuration.
4.4 Updating the firmware
aThe WiFi adapter is connected with
the computer.
aThere is a firmware file on the com-
puter with the ending *.bin.
1. Get the latest firmware from RATIO-
NAL customer service and via the Ser-
vice Partner Portal.
Logging in
1. In a web browser, open the address
https://192.168.11.1 or a different pre-
viously set IP address. Accept the nec-
essary certificates.
2. Enter the user name and the password
on the screen. The user name is set as
root
and the password as
Rational
as
standard [ Figure 15].
>Press the
Login
button.
Updating the firmware
1. Select the menu
System/ Firmware
Update
.
2. Press the
Flash Firmware
button.
3. Press the
Browse
button. Select the
firmware file saved on the computer.
4. Press the
Upload
button.
5. Remove the checkmark in the
Keep
settings
field.
>The settings are reset.
6. Confirm the update with the
Proceed
button.
>Wait until the green LED goes out.
The blue LED lights up.
>The device must not be switched
off.
7. Wait a few minutes until the green
LED flashes. The device can be ac-
cessed again. Log in again.
