Rego TA7894-50 User manual

WARNING:
Installation, disassembly, repair and maintenance
must be performed only by qualified personnel.
AllgasMUSTbeevacuatedfromthesystembeforestartingrepairs.
Installation, usage and maintenance of this product must be in
compliance with all RegO
®
instructions as well as requirements
andprovisions of NFPA#54, NFPA#58, DOT,ANSI, all applicable
federal, state, provincial and local standards, codes, regulations
and laws.
Inspection and maintenance on a periodic basis is essential.
Besureallinstructionsarereadandunderstoodbeforeinstallation,
operation and maintenance. These instructions must be passed
along to the end user of the product.
CAUTION:
Contactorinhalationofliquidpropane,ammoniaand
their vapors can cause serious injury or death! NH

and LP-Gas
must be released outdoors in air currents that will insure disper-
sion toprevent exposuretopeopleandlivestock. LP-Gas mustbe
kept far enough from any open flame or other source of ignition to
prevent fire or explosion! LP-Gas is heavier than air and may not
disperse or evaporate rapidly if released in still air.
Disassembly and Repair Procedure
CAUTION: READ THROUGH ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS, IN-
CLUDING THE NOTICE ANDWARNINGS ON THE BACK OFTHIS
SHEET, BEFORE BEGINNING ANY DISASSEMBLY OR REPAIR.
NOTE: Repairs must be performed in a clean area. Hands, cloth-
ing, tools and work area must be completely free of oil, grease
and foreign matter to prevent contamination of component parts
and valves.
A.
Disassembly
1.
EVACUATE ALL GAS FROM THE SYSTEM BEFORE ANY DIS-
ASSEMBLYORREPAIR.Turnhandwheelcounterclockwiseas
far as it will go to release any gas remaining in the container.
CAUTION: Do not apply force after valve is fully open.
2.
Using a 13/16" wrench, remove four cap screws from bonnetby
turning counterclockwise. Remove bonnet assembly from valve
body.
3.
Remove body gasket and discard.
To Install New Seat Disc:

Clamp the square section of bonnet in avise.

Use wrench flats on the seat disc retainer to secure while using
a 1-5/16" wrench, use another wrench to remove the seat disc
retainer nut.
6.
Removeanddiscard seat disc. Install a new oneby pressinginto
recess of seat disc retainer as shown in Figure 2.
7.
Apply Loctite 271® thread locking compound to the first three
threads of seat disc retainer.
CAUTION: Do not allow Loctite to contact seat disc.
8.
Thread on disc retaining nut and tighten with a wrench to 240-
270 in-lbs torque. Stake nut in two places at retainer threads
(See Figure 2) to prevent loosening.
NOTE:Ifnofurtherrepairsarerequired,disregardstepsA-9throughA-14
andB-1throughB-9oftheinstructions. Finishreassemblybyfollowing
steps B-10through B-15 only. TOINSTALLALLOF THETA7894-50
REPAIR PARTS, FOLLOW ALL OFTHE REMAINING INSTRUCTIONS.
9.
Remove handwheel locknut by turning counterclockwise with a
small wrench to allow removal of washer, information disc and
handwheel.
10.
Usinga1-3/8"wrenchwithahandleofsufficientlengthtodevelopa
minimumof1000in-lbstorque,turnsealhousingcounterclockwise
and carefully remove from bonnet.
CAUTION: Do not mar finish of stem.
11.
Removeanddiscardpressuresealringsando-ringfromsealhous-
ing.
12.
Usingasmallwrenchonthesquaresection,screwthestemdown
and out through the bottom of bonnet by turning clockwise (as
viewed from top).
CAUTION: If stem** is scratched or scored, a new one must be
installed.
13.
Remove and discard seal housing gasket, washer and jam ring
from bonnet. Save spring forreassembly.
14.
Inspect stem** threads and mating threads in bonnet**. If any

threads show definite wear, discard part and install a new one.
15.
Remove and retain eight cap screws securing the flange outlet.
Remove and discard flange outlet gasket.
B.
Reassembly
1.
Apply non-detergent grease liberally to threads of stem.
2.
Screwthestemclockwise(asviewedfrom seatdisc)intothebot-
tom of bonnet with great care to avoid damaging stem finish.
3.
Install new seal housing gasket, old spring, new washer and jam
ring over stem and into bonnet.
4.
Install new o-ring in groove of sealhousing.
5.
Applyathinfilmofnon-detergentgreasetothepressuresealrings
andcarefullyinsertoneatatimeintothefulldepthofthesealhous-
ing.
6.
Apply 1/8" stripe Loctite 271® thread locking compound across
threads in three places equally spaced around seal housing.
7.
Place seal housing carefully over thestem toavoiddamagingthe
edges of seal rings and thread into bonnet clockwise. Tighten to
800in-lbstorque,usinga1-3/8"wrenchwithahandleofappropri-
ate length.
8.
Placehandwheelandinformationdisconstem,securewithwasher
and locknut and tighten firmly with a smallwrench.
9.
Applynon-detergentgreaseto eachsideofnewbody gasket and
install into body.
CAUTION: Stem must be infull open (valve back seated) position
to prevent seat disc from being forced against seat when bonnet
is assembled to valve body.
11.
Place bonnet over body and align holes for cap screws.
12.
Install four cap screws, hand tight.
13.
Using a suitable wrench, tighten one cap screw 540 in-lbs, then
move diagonally across the bonnet to tighten the second cap

LP-Gas is extremely flammable and explosive. Failure to install parts exactly as described inthe
instructions could result ina product that will not performsatisfactorily. Even ifparts are correctly
installed, the product might fail to perform satisfactorily, if other parts are worn, corroded or dirty.

continued validity of the UL listing is contingent upon proper inspection to determine what needs
repairing, proper repair using RegO® parts and procedures, and proper testing for leakage and
performance following repairs andinstallation.
RegO® assumes no responsibility or liability for performance of products repaired in the field. It
must be clearly understood that the person or organization repairing the product assumes total
responsibility for performance of the product.
LIMITED 10 YEAR WARRANTY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
LIMITED 10 YEAR WARRANTY
RegO®warrantstotheoriginalpurchaserstheproductsandrepairkitsmanufacturedbyittobefree
fromdefects in materialsand workmanshipunder normal use andservice for a periodof 10years
from the date ofmanufacture. If withinthirty daysafter buyer’s discoveryofwhatbuyerbelievesis
a defect, buyer notifies in writing and ships the product to RegO® at 100 RegO Drive, Elon, N.C.
27244,RegO®, atits option,and within forty-five daysofreceipt, will repair,replace F.O.B.pointof
manufacture, or refund the purchase price of that part or product found by RegO®to be defective.
Failureof buyerto givesuchwritten noticeand shipthe productwithin thirtydaysshallbedeemed
anabsolute and unconditional waiver ofany and all claims ofbuyer arising outofsuchdefect.
Thiswarrantydoesnotextendtoanyproductorpartthatisnotinstalledandusedcontinuouslyafter
installationinaccordancewithRegO®’sprintedinstructions,allapplicablestateandlocalregulations,
and all applicable national standards, suchas those promulgated by NFPA, DOT and ANSI. This
warrantydoesnotextendtoanyproductorpartthathasbeendamagedbyaccident,misuse,abuse,
failure to maintain, or neglect, nor doesit extend to any product or part which has been modified,
altered, disassembled, or repairedin the field. Thiswarranty does notcover anycosmeticissues,
such as scratches, dents, marring, fading of colors or discoloration.
Exceptasexpresslysetforthabove,andsubjecttothelimitationofliabilitybelow,RegO®MAKESNO
OTHER WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED
WARRANTIESOFMERCHANTABILITYANDFITNESSFORAPARTICULARPURPOSE,withrespect
to its products and parts, whether used alone or in combination with others. RegO® disclaims all
warranties not stated herein.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
RegO®totalliabilityforanyandalllossesanddamagesarisingoutofanycausewhatsoevershall
screw. Continue until all four cap screws are tightened to 540 in-
lbs torque. See Figure 3.
14.
Apply non-detergent grease to each side of flange gasket then
install in body.
15.
Torque each cap screw 300 in-lbs minimum using a crisscross
tightening sequence. See figure 4.
16.
Torque handwheel clockwise to closed position using 400 in-lbs
using spanner wrench or equivalent. Verify outlet is open.
Bench Test
1.
Pressurizevalveto300-500psi(throughtheinletconnection)and
check valve for leakage, when looking into the outlet port, by ap-
plying a high quality leak detection solution aroundseat area and
seat cavity. Observe for one minute to detectleaks.
2.
Release300-500psi,apply15-20psiandlookforanyleakageas
above.
3.
Installoutletplug,againapply300-500psiandslowlyopenvalveby
turninghandwheel1/4turnincrementally.Checkvalveforleakage
byapplyingahighqualityleakdetectionsolutionaroundstem,seal
housing and bonnet joint. Continue to rotate handwheel 1/4 turn
incrementally until valve is fully open (not back seated). Observe
for one minute to detect leaks.
inno event exceedthe purchase priceofthe products or partsin respectof which suchcause
arises,whethersuchcausesbebasedontheoriesofcontract,negligence,strictliability,tortor
otherwise.
RegO® shall not be liable for incidental, consequential or punitive damages or other losses.
RegO®shallnotbeliablefor,andbuyerassumesanyliabilityfor allpersonalinjuryandproperty
damageconnectedwiththehandling,transportation,possession,furthermanufacture,otheruse
orresaleofproducts,whetherusedaloneor incombinationwithany otherproductsormaterials.
Fromtime totimebuyers might call to askRegO®for technical advice baseuponlimited facts
disclosed to RegO®. If RegO® furnishes technical advice to buyer, whether or not a buyer’s
request,withrespecttoapplication,furthermanufactureor otheruseoftheproducts andparts,
RegO®shallnotbeliableforsuchtechnicaladviceor anysuchadviceprovidedto buyerbyany
third party and buyer assumes all risks of such advice and the results thereof.
NOTE: Somestatesdonotallowtheexclusionorlimitationofincidental,consequentialorpunitive
damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. The warranty gives you
specific legalrights,and youmayhaveotherrights thatvaryfromstate tostate. Theportions of
thelimitedwarrantyandlimitationofliabilityshallbe consideredseverableandallportionswhich
are not disallowed by applicable law shall remain in full force and effect.
WARNING
AllRegO®productsaremechanicaldevicesthatwilleventuallybecomeinoperativeduetowear,
corrosionandagingofcomponentsmadeofmaterialssuchasrubber,etc. Theenvironmentand
conditionsofuse willdeterminethesafe servicelifeoftheseproducts. Periodicinspectionand
maintenance are essential to avoid serious injury and property damage.

NOTICE TO USERS OF PRODUCTS
TheLimitedWarrantystatedaboveisa factorywarrantytothe firstpurchasersofRegO®products.
Since most users have purchased these products from RegO® distributors, the user must within
thirty(30)daysaftertheuser’s discoveryofwhatuserbelievesisadefect,notifyinwritingandreturn
the product to the distributor from whom he purchased the product/part. The distributor may or
may not at the distributor’s option choose to submit the product/parts to RegO®, pursuant to this
LimitedWarranty.Failurebybuyertogivesuchwrittennoticewithinthirty(30)daysshallbedeemed
anabsoluteandunconditional waiverofbuyer’s claimforsuch defects.Acceptanceofanyalleged
defectiveproduct/partsbyRegO®’s distributorforreplacementorrepairsunderthetermsofRegO®’s
LimitedWarrantyinno way determines RegO®’s obligations under this LimitedWarranty.
