General Care
1. The thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult.
2. Do not walk, run or talk during temperature taking.
3. Clean the thermometer before and after each use.
4. Store the unit in the protective case when not in use.
5. Do not bite the thermometer tip.
6. Do not store the unit where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, dust or humidity.
Avoid extreme temperatures.
7. Dropping or subjecting your thermometer to strong shocks should be avoided.
8. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit, except to replace the battery.
9. If ERR displays and measurement is not attainable, the unit must be replaced.
NOTE: Performance of the device may be degraded if: operated outside of
stated temperature and humidity range; stored outside of stated temperature
and humidity range; thermometer undergoes mechanical shock (drop); patient
temperature is below ambient temperature.
Changing the Battery
The battery in your digital thermometer needs to be replaced when the “ ” sym-
bol appears in the lower right of the display. Replace the battery with a 1.55V, AG3
alkaline or SR41 silver oxide type or equivalent.
To replace the battery,
1. Slide the battery cap away from the unit.
2. Using a non-metal pointed tool, carefully remove the
battery and insert the new battery with the negative (–)
side facing the back side of the unit.
3. Carefully slide the battery cap back into place, making
sure that the cap fits snugly to protect the battery com-
partment from moisture.
NOTE: Please properly dispose the battery away from small children and heat.
Taking an Oral Temperature
Approximate measurement time:
15 seconds
1. Using the diagram on the right, place
the thermometer tip tip under the
tongue as near as possible to the heat
pocket. The diagram also shows the
temperature variables by not placing the
tip in the heat pocket area.
NOTE: Drinking hot or cold fluids, exercis-
ing, smoking or performing other activities
may raise or lower your temperature.
Therefore, it is important to relax for
approximately 5 minutes with your mouth
closed prior to taking a reading
2. The current temperature is shown and the oF will continue to flash during the
reading.
3. When the peak temperature has been reached, the oF will stop flashing and the
thermometer will sound four sets of five quick beeps.
4. To turn the unit off, press the ON/OFF button. The unit will automatically shut off
after approximately nine minutes.
NOTE: The mouth must remain closed during the measurement for the most accu-
rate reading. Opening the mouth could result in an extended measurement time
and may affect the reading.
Cleaning Instructions
Before and after each use, clean the thermometer with a soft cloth and 70%
isopropyl alcohol diluted with water, or wash with COLD soapy water. An intact unit
can be submersed in water or alcohol. However, do not soak for an extended period
of time.
1. The unit must never be sterilized by boiling, gas or steam autoclaves.
2. The use of any other solution or cleaning method beyond the above mentioned
may result in reliability problems with the thermometer and void your warranty.
How to Take Your Temperature
1. Clean and disinfect the thermometer according the instructions provided.
2. Apply a disposable thermometer tip cover to the clean, dry thermometer.
3. Determine whether the measurement site will be oral, rectal or underarm.
NOTE: Measurement time may vary based on the selected site.
4. Press the ON/OFF button (the unit will beep) to activate the thermometer.
This is the LCD display test, which insures all parts of the dis-
play are functioning properly. Continue to hold the button down
and in approximately 2 seconds the display will show the last
recorded temperature as follows.
This display shows the last temperature reading. Within
approximately 2 seconds of releasing the button or if no
reading is stored in memory, the display will read as follows.
This display denotes normal operation.
“Err” denotes a malfunction.
The Lo with the flashing oF indicates the thermometer is ready
to take a temperature reading.

Thank you for purchasing a ReliOn®Digital Thermometer. Please read the following
instructions to achieve the most accurate temperatures and safe operation. With
proper care and use, your thermometer will provide you with years of reliable
readings.
What is a “Normal” Temperature?
Although the generally accepted “normal” temperature reading is 98.6oF, tempera-
ture readings can vary from 97oF to 99oF and still may be considered “normal”.
Variations in temperature can be attributed to activities such as exercise, smoking,
eating and drinking. Even time of day may influence your temperature. For exam-
ple, your temperature is lower in the morning than in the afternoon. Other variations
may be due to the location of the temperature reading. While the oral temperature
follows the guidelines previously described, a rectal temperature is generally 1.0oF
higher. Conversely, an axillary (under the arm) temperature will be 1.0oF lower.
Features of your ReliOn®Digital Thermometer
Taking an Axillary Temperature (under the arm)
Approximate measurement time: 20 seconds
1. Wipe the underarm with a dry towel.
2. Place the thermometer tip under the arm so the tip is touching the skin with the
thermometer perpendicular to the body.
3. Position the arm across the chest so the thermometer tip tip is well covered by
the arm. This also insures the thermometer tip is not affected by the room’s air.
4. When the peak temperature has been reached, the oF will stop flashing and the
thermometer will sound four sets of five quick beeps.
5. To turn the unit off, press the ON/OFF button. The unit will automatically shut off
after approximately nine minutes.
NOTE: Axillary temperatures are generally 1.0oF lower than oral readings.
Taking a Rectal Temperature
Approximate measurement time: 10 seconds
NOTE: Rectal temperatures are an appropriate and reliable method for infants and
small children. Otherwise, this method should only be used when it is impossible or
impractical to take an oral or axillary temperature.
1. After applying the disposable thermometer tip cover, apply a water-soluble lubri-
cant to the tip.
2. Gently insert the thermometer tip a MAXIMUM of 1/2” into the rectum.
3. When the peak temperature has been reached, the oF will stop flashing and the
thermometer will sound four sets of five quick beeps.
4. To turn the unit off, press the ON/OFF button. The unit will automatically power
down after approximately ten minutes.
NOTE: Rectal temperatures are generally 1.0oF higher than oral readings.

Cómo Tomar la Temperatura Oral
Tiempo de medición aproximado: 15 segundos
1. Utilizando el diagrama ubicado a la
derecha, coloque la punta del medidor

ble del espacio sacular de calor. El dia-
grama también le muestra las variables
de temperatura que se producen al no
colocar la punta en el área de espacio

NOTA: La ingestión de líquidos fríos o
calientes, los ejercicios físicos, el fumar o
realizar otras actividades pueden contribuir
a que su temperatura suba o baje. Por lo
tanto, es importante descansar aproxi-
madamente 5 minutos con la boca cerrada
antes de tomarse la temperatura.
2. Aparece la temperatura actual y el símbolo “oF” continuará titilando durante la
lectura de la temperatura.
3. Cuando se haya alcanzado la temperatura pico, el símbolo oF dejará de titilar y
el termómetro emitirá cuatro series de cinco sonidos “beep” cortos.
4. Para apagar la unidad, presione el botón de ENCENDIDO/APAGADO. La
unidad se apagará automáticamente después de transcurridos aproximada-
mente nueve minutos.
NOTA: Deberá tener la boca cerrada durante la toma de la temperatura para
obtener una lectura más exacta. Al abrir la boca se podría extender el tiempo de
lectura y podrá afectar la misma.
Instrucciones de Limpieza
Antes y después de cada uso, limpie el termómetro con un paño suave y 70% alcohol
isopropílico diluido con agua, o lávelo con agua jabonosa FRÍA. La unidad intacta
puede sumergirse en agua o alcohol. Sin embargo, no la sumerja por un tiempo pro-
longado.
1. Nunca esterilice la unidad en agua hirviendo o autoclaves de vapor o gas.
2. El uso de cualquier otra solución o método de limpieza diferente al mencionado,
podrá producir lecturas poco confiables y anulará la garantía.
Cómo Tomar la Temperatura
1. Limpie y desinfecte el termómetro de acuerdo con las instrucciones dadas.
2. Coloque una cubierta desechable para el medidor en el termómetro limpio y seco.
3. Determine si tomará la temperatura en forma oral, rectal o debajo de la axila.
NOTA: El tiempo de medición puede variar de acuerdo con el método utilizado.
4. Presione el botón de ENCENDIDO/APAGADO ( la unidad emitirá un sonido
“beep”) para activar el termómetro.
Esta es la prueba de visor LCD, que asegura que todas las partes
del visor estén funcionando correctamente. Continúe presionando el
botón y en aproximadamente 2 segundos el visor mostrará la última
lectura de temperatura, según se indica.
Este visor muestra la última lectura de temperatura. Al cabo de
aproximadamente 2 segundos de haber soltado el botón o si no hay
ninguna lectura guardada en la memoria, el visor mostrará lo
siguiente.
Este despliegue denota la operación normal. ERR denote un
funcionamiento defectuoso.
La “Lo” con “oF” intermitente indica que el termómetro está listo para
tomar la temperatura.

ientes instrucciones para lograr las temperaturas más exactas posibles y un fun-
cionamiento seguro. Con el debido cuidado y uso, su termómetro le brindará años
de uso y lecturas confiables.
¿Qué es Temperatura “Normal”?
Si bien la temperatura “normal” es de 98,6oF, las lecturas de las temperaturas
pueden variar desde los 97oF hasta los 99oF y aún así considerarse “normales”.
Las variaciones en la temperatura pueden atribuirse a distintos factores tales como
hacer ejercicio, fumar, comer y beber. Aun la hora del día puede influir en su tem-
peratura. Por ejemplo, la temperatura es más baja por la mañana que por la tarde.
Otras variaciones pueden deberse a la ubicación de la lectura de la temperatura.
Mientras que la temperatura oral sigue las instrucciones descriptas anteriormente,
la temperatura rectal es generalmente 1,0oF superior. Por el contrario, la temper-
atura en la axila (debajo del brazo) será 1,0oF inferior.

Cómo Tomar la Temperatura en la Axila (debajo del brazo)
Tiempo de medición aproximado: 20 segundos
1. Seque la axila con una toalla seca.
2. Coloque la punta del medidor debajo del brazo de modo que la punta toque la
piel con el termómetro en forma perpendicular al cuerpo.
3. Coloque el brazo sobre el pecho de modo que la punta del medidor quede
cubierta por el brazo. Esto también asegura que el medidor no se vea afectado
por el aire de la habitación.
4. Cuando se haya alcanzado la temperatura pico, el símbolo “oF” dejará de titilar
y el termómetro emitirá cuatro series de cinco sonidos “beep” cortos.
5. Para apagar la unidad, presione el botón de ENCENDIDO/APAGADO. La
unidad se apagará automáticamente después de transcurridos aproximada-
mente nueve minutos.
NOTA: La temperatura axilar es generalmente 1oF menor a la temperatura oral.
Cómo Tomar la Temperatura Rectal
Tiempo de medición aproximado: 10 segundos
NOTA: La temperatura rectal es un método apropiado y confiable para bebes y
niños pequeños. De lo contrario, este método sólo deberá usarse cuando resulte
imposible o impráctico tomar la temperatura oral o axilar.
1. Luego de colocar la cubierta desechable del medidor, aplique en la punta un
lubricante soluble en agua.
2. Inserte suavemente el medidor un MÁXIMO de 1/2 pulgada en el recto.
3. Cuando se haya alcanzado la temperatura pico, el símbolo oF dejará de titilar y
el termómetro emitirá cuatro series de cinco sonidos “beep” rápidos.
4. Para apagar la unidad, presione el botón de ENCENDIDO/APAGADO. La
unidad se apagará automáticamente después de transcurridos aproximada-
mente nueve minutos.
NOTA: La temperatura rectal es generalmente 1oF mayor a la temperatura oral.
Cuidado General
1. Siempre utilice el termómetro con la supervisión de un adulto.
2. No camine, corra o hable durante la toma de la temperatura.
3. Limpie el termómetro antes y después de cada uso.
4. Guarde la unidad en el estuche protector cuando no la utilice.
5. No muerda el medidor.
6. No exponga la unidad a la luz del sol directa, polvo o humedad. Evite las tem-
peraturas extremas.
7. Evite dejar caer el termómetro o los grandes golpes.
8. No intente desarmar la unidad, excepto para cambiar la batería.
9. Si aparece ERR en el visor y no se obtiene una medida, deberá reemplazar la
unidad.
NOTA: El desempeño de este dispositivo puede verse afectado si: se opera fuera
de los niveles de temperatura y humedad recomendados, si se almacena bajo
niveles de temperatura y humedad fuera de los recomendados, si el termómetro se
somete a un golpe mecánico (se lo deja caer), si la temperatura del paciente está
por debajo de la temperatura ambiente.
Cómo Cambiar la Batería
Deberá cambiar la batería del termómetro digital cuando los números y el
símbolo“ ”aparezca en la parte inferior derecha del
visor. Cambie la batería por una del tipo 1.55V, LR41
alcalina o AG3 de óxido de plata, o equivalente.
Para cambiar la batería:
1. Deslice la tapa de las baterías hasta retirarla de la
unidad.
2. Quite la batería utilizando una herramienta de punta
no metálica y coloque la nueva batería con el signo
negativo (–) hacia lado trasero de la unidad.
3. Deslice con cuidado la tapa de la batería hasta que
quede en su lugar y asegúrese de que ésta quede
bien ajustada para evitar que entre humedad en el compartimiento.
NOTA: Deshágase de la batería de modo que quede lejos de los niños o del calor.
