1 GENERAL
1.1 General safety information
9 This instruction manual and that for the installer
and Technical Assistance Service are integral parts of
the boiler. They must be kept safe and must ALWAYS
accompany the boiler, even if it is sold to another
owner or user or transferred to another installation.
If you damage or lose this manual, order a repla-
cement immediately from your local rTechnical
Assistance Centre.

must be installed by a legally qua-
lied heating engineer. On com-
pletion of the installation, the
heating engineer must issue
the owner with a declaration of
conformity conrming that the
installation has been completed
to the highest standards in com-
pliance with the instructions provi-
ded by rin this instruction manual, and that it
conforms to all applicable laws and standards.
9 If you notice any water leaking from the boiler, di-
sconnect it immediately from the mains electricity
supply, shut off the water supply, and notify your
local r Technical Assistance Centre or a qualied
heating engineer immediately.
9 Periodically check that operating
pressure in the water circuit is
over 1 bar. If water pressure is
consistently low, contact r’s
Technical Assistance Service or a
professionally qualied heating
engineer.
9 If the boiler is not going to be used for an extended
period of time, proceed as follows to prepare it for
shutdown.
−Turn the mains power switch OFF.
−Close the boiler’s fuel cock and water cock.
−Drain the central heating circuit if there is any risk
of freezing.
9 The boiler must only be used for the purpose speci-
ed by r and for which it is designed. The ma-
nufacturer declines all responsibility, contractual
or other, for damage to property or injury to per-
sons or animals caused by improper installation,
adjustment, maintenance or use.
1.2 Precautions
The operation of any appliance that uses fuel, electrical
power and water demands that a number of funda-
mental safety precautions be respected.È vietato l’uso

0 Do not allow children or inrm
persons to operate the boiler
unsupervised.
0 Do not operate any electrical
devices or equipment, including
switches or domestic appliances, etc.,
if you can smell fuel or fumes. If you detect any su-
spicious smells:
−Ventilate the room by opening all doors and
windows.
−Close the fuel shut-off cock.
−Report the fault immediately to r’s Technical As-
sistance Service or a professionally qualied he-
ating engineer.
0 Never clean or service the boiler without rst di-
sconnecting it from the mains electricity supply by
turning the main power switch OFF.
0 Never pull, disconnect, or twist the electrical cables
coming from the boiler even if it is disconnected
from the mains electricity supply at the time.
0 Do no obstruct or restrict the vents in the room
where the boiler is installed. Adequate ventilation
is essential for correct combustion.
0 Do not store containers of ammable
substances in the room where the
boiler is installed.
0 Do not touch the boiler when
barefoot or wet.
0 Do not switch the boiler off if outside temperature
drops below ZERO (risk of freezing).

shows that the system is switched on but in

Current system configuration
−The display shows a diagram of the currently
selected system conguration.
−Turn the parameter selector clockwise to di-
splay the various sensors and actuators in the
selected system conguration along with their
names (e.g. F1, F2, A1). Turn the parameter se-
lector anti-clockwise to display current statu-
ses and temperatures.
Collector/storage cylinder temperature sensor
−The display reads out the temperature curren-
tly measured by temperature sensor F1 in the
solar collector. In some system congurations,
the temperature measured by the storage
cylinder temperature sensor is shown instead.
−The trend in temperatures measured by the
sensor over the last few hours is also shown.
Supplementary temperature sensor
−The display reads out the temperature curren-
tly measured by temperature sensor F2.
−The trend in temperatures measured by the
sensor over the last few hours is also shown.
−If temperature sensor F2 is not installed, the
display reads out the message “Not con-
nected”.
Storage cylinder top temperature sensor
−The display reads out the temperature curren-
tly measured by storage cylinder top tempera-
ture sensor F3.
−The trend in temperatures measured by the
sensor over the last few hours is also shown.
−If temperature sensor F3 is not installed, the
display reads out the message “Not con-
nected”.
Storage cylinder bottom temperature sensor
−The display reads out the temperature curren-
tly measured by storage cylinder bottom tem-
perature sensor F4.
−The trend in temperatures measured by the
sensor over the last few hours is also shown.
Daily, weekly, monthly or total energy output
−The display reads out the energy produced by
the solar collector/s.
−The display switches automatically between
Wh, kWh and MWh.
User settings
−The display shows the settings the user can
change to adapt the system to his own per-
sonal needs.
Installer settings
−The display shows the setting menus the in-
staller can use to put the solar controller into
service. A password is required to access these
settings.

Once you have completed all the checks listed above,
proceed as follows to start up the boiler for the rst
time.
−Turn the mains power switch ON.
−Turn the boiler function selector to Summer "}"
or Winter "{", depending on which functioning
mode you require.
9 Every time electrical power is switched on, the boi-
ler performs an automatic venting cycle that lasts
about 2 minutes. Two dashes ash on the display
in an alternating manner during automatic venting.
SUMMER (}): With the function selector set to Summer,
the boiler functions only in domestic hot water mode.
The temperature gauge (1) shows the temperature of the
hot water inside the storage cylinder.
9 To ensure correct functioning, set the room tempe-
rature thermostat to its minimum setting.
WINTER ({): With the function selector set to Winter, the
boiler functions in central heating and domestic hot
water modes. The display shows the temperature of the
central heating ow.

Have r’s Technical Assistance Service start-up your boiler for the rst time. Once this has been done, the boiler
can be left to function automatically. Under certain circumstances, such as after long periods of disuse, the user may
need to re-start it without involving the r's Technical Assistance Service . Before doing so, perform the following
checks and operations

−Set the room thermostat to the required tempe-
rature (~ 20°C) or, if the system has a timer or ti-
mer-thermostat, make sure that this is switched
“On” and adjusted to the required temperature
(~ 20°C).

SETTING CENTRAL HEATING WATER TEMPERATURE USING
THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
Since an outdoor temperature sensor is installed, the
system automatically adjusts the temperature of the
central heating ow to bring room temperature rapidly
to a level determined on the basis of outdoor air tem-
perature.
To adjust room temperature manually with respect to
the automatic setting calculated by the control card,
turn the heating temperature selector "/" clockwise to
increase temperature or anti-clockwise to reduce it.
The available adjustment range is between -5 and +5
comfort levels as shown on the digital display when the
knob is turned.
SETTING DOMESTIC HOT WATER TEMPERATURE
Domestic hot water temperature is preset to 44°C in the
factory.
Adjust the thermostatic mixer valve to change this value.
The following table shows the hot water temperature
values for the different mixer valve knob positions.

Once you have set the required domestic hot water
temperature, you can lock the adjustment knob of the
mixer valve to prevent further tampering.
To do so, unscrew the xing screw from the top of the
knob and pull off the knob. Fit the knob again so that
the keyway in the knob's body engages with the key in
the valve cap.
SOLAR CONTROLLER
The rst time you switch on the boiler, you will need to
set time and day. To do so, proceed as follows.
−Turn the function selector (3) to ""
−Turn the parameter selector (4) until the "Clock"
menu appears.
−Press the conrm key (2).
−Turn the parameter selector (4) to set the desired
time.
−Press the conrm key (2) to conrm.
−Repeat the above steps to set the date.
−Turn the function selector (3) to ""
9 You can exit programming mode at any time sim-
ply by turning the function selector (3). If you exit
programming mode in this way, any changes made
but not conrmed (by pressing the conrm key) will
be lost.
STARTING UP THE BOILER
If a timer or room thermostat is installed, these must
be switched on and adjusted to a temperature higher
than current room temperature before the boiler can
start up.
The boiler will remain in stand-by mode until the bur-
ner ignites following a request for heat. The green LED
(3) on the left of the control panel lights to show that a
ame is being detected.
The boiler will carry on functioning until the set tem-
peratures are reached, when it will return to stand-by
mode while continuing to display the central heating
ow temperature.
If any ignition or functioning errors occur, the boiler
performs a “SAFETY SHUTDOWN”. The green LED on the
control panel goes out and an error code ashes on the
display. The red LED (5) indicates a burner lock-out. See
the “WARNING LEDS AND ERRORS” section for details on
the various error codes and how to reset the boiler.

RESET FUNCTION
To reset the boiler, turn the function selector to “0”,
then return it to its previous position and check that the
red LED goes out. Provided correct functioning condi-
tions have been restored, the boiler restarts automati-
cally. As soon as the burner ignites the green LED lights
and the digital display will read out current operating
temperature.
Turning the function selector to “0” without returning
it to “{” or “}” will not reset the boiler.
If the boiler does not restart after a number of resets,
call your local Technical Assistance Centre. Under nor-
mal conditions, when the function selector is turned to
“0”, the digital display reads out “- -” unless the frost
protection function (AF) is active, or combustion analysis
(CO) in being performed.
If you are going away for a short period of time like a
weekend or a short holiday, etc., turn the function se-
lector to “0” OFF/RESET.
The digital display reads out the message shown
alongside.
Because electrical power and the gas supply to the boi-
ler both remain on, the boiler is protected by the fol-
lowing systems:
−Frost protection:
Central heating
This function is activated if the temperature
read by the central heating ow temperature
sensor falls below 6°C. Under these conditions
a heat request is generated, igniting the burner
at minimum power and keeping it on until the
temperature of the central heating ow water
reaches 35°C.
9 The message AF ashes on the display for as long as
the frost protection function remains active.
−Pump anti-block function: The pump is switched
on for 30 seconds every 24 hours.
If the boiler is not going to be used for an extended
period of time, proceed as follows to prepare it for
shutdown.
−Turn the function selector to OFF/RESET.
−Turn the mains power switch OFF.
−Close the fuel shut-off cock and the central hea-
ting and DHW circuit shut-off cocks.
Note that the frost protection and pump anti-block fun-
ctions are not active under these conditions. Drain the
central heating circuit and domestic hot water circuit if
there is any risk of freezing.

On = burning lit, boiler functioning normally.
Red LED (5)
Safety shutdown: an error code ashes on the display.
Burner lockout: the red LED lights and an error code
ashes on the display.
No error code is shown in OFF/RESET mode (0). To visua-
lise any system errors, turn the function selector to "}"
or "{". Error codes are displayed normally in combu-
stion analysis and frost protection modes.
To restore normal functioning, turn the function selector
to “0” (OFF/RESET) then return it to its previous posi-
tion: Summer "}", or Winter "{".
If the boiler does not restart after a number of resets,
call your local Technical Assistance Centre.

Check the pressure on the control panel pressure gauge.
If it is below 0.5 bar, proceed as follows.
−Turn the function selector to “0”
−Remove the top front panel from the boiler by
pulling it forwards.
−Slowly rell the system, opening the ll cock (2)
until the pressure gauge reads between 1 and 1.2
bar.
−Fit the top panel back on the boiler.
−Return the function selector to its previous posi-
tion (Summer "}", or Winter "{").
If the system loses pressure frequently, call Technical As-
sistance. 2
