This guide is designed to help you quickly install the push buon for on-demand recirculaon with Rinnai SENSEI™ tankless
water heaters using a dedicated return line in the plumbing system.

Place magnec back panel to
side of water heater
(indoor water heaters only).

Unplug water heater power cord from power outlet.
If module comes with spade end
connectors, cut spade end connectors o
the two module wires.
Next, strip insulaon o both ends.
IMPORTANT
• Maximum distance from module to push buon is 250 . (76 m).
• Addional wiring can run up to 300 feet (91 m) away from water heater (18-22 gauge wire required).
• Up to 30 push buons are supported per module.

Water Heater Controller Cable
(included in water heater packaging)
2 Wire Nuts (or other approved
wire connectors) (Field-supplied)
Phillips Head Screwdriver
(Field-supplied)
Wire Cuers/Stripper (Oponal)
(Field-supplied)
Connect module wires to PC Board located inside water heater by compleng steps a, b, and c below.
Remove water heater front panel (use a Phillips Head screwdriver to remove 4 screws securing the panel).

Instrucons supplied with module

Connect module wires to water heater
controller cable (included in water heater
packaging) using wire nuts or other approved
wire connectors.
Connect controller cable to PC Board through grommet portal on boom, right side of water heater.
Plug water heater power cord into a power outlet.
Connue with next step.
Connect cable
to PC Board.
Insert controller cable through grommet portal
on boom, right side of water heater.

Make sure water heater is plugged into power outlet.
Wait for module LED to turn RED.
While you are waing, connue with next step.
RED
Press/hold down push buon and insert two supplied baeries at the same me. Ensure + (plus)
terminals are aligned correctly.
When baeries are installed, release the push buon.
Press and hold down Connect buon on MODULE
unl LED turns GREEN.
Then, release buon.
• Press and hold down push buon.
• Push buon ashes three mes and then rapidly ashes.
• Release push buon.

Insert push buon baeries by following steps a, b and c below.
Press both sides. Li and remove cover.
Insert baeries
+ (Plus) terminals
Replace cover on push buon (cover ts in one direcon only).
GREEN
PRESS AND HOLD
You have ve minutes to complete the following three
bullets:
Press, then li UP cover.

If paired successfully, module LED quickly blinks GREEN
and turns RED.

Press push buon.
Module LED quickly blinks GREEN and turns RED.

Set a mer for 5 minutes.
While waing, connue with
next secon.

Press On/O buon on controller to turn OFF water heater.

IMPORTANT
Controller MUST be turned OFF for remaining
steps to work correctly.
IMPORTANT: Aer pressing push buon, DO NOT press it again unl 5-minute mer is
complete (as explained in next step).
(This signies
communicaon between
push buon and module.)
Press and hold down A buon on PC Board for 1 second.
The controller turns ON.

When parameter sengs are complete, press and
hold down A buon on PC Board for one second to
exit parameters. The controller turns OFF.
Replace water heater front panel.

Press push buon. Module LED blinks GREEN and
pump turns on.

Instrucons for pairing one push buon are
complete.
To pair addional push buons, follow the steps
below.
• Press On/O buon on water heater controller to turn
OFF water heater.
• Unplug water heater power cord from outlet and then
plug it back in.
• Repeat steps 3-6 from pages 3 and 4.
• Press On/O buon on water heater controller to turn
ON water heater.
• Press push buon. Pump turns on.
