Fuse
This apparatus must be protected by a 3A fuse (BS1362) in a 13A plug
(BS1363). If another type of plug is used a 5A fuse should be fitted in the
plug, adaptor or distribution board.
IF IN DOUBT - CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
Backup Battery
Slide the battery cover (22) in the direction of the arro . Fit a 9 volt IEC size
6LR61 (6F22, PP3) or equivalent battery into the compartment. Replace
the battery cover. The time and alarm settings ill be retained during a
temporary failure of the AC mains supply. The LED display ill not be
operational but the Radio and Buzzer alarms ill continue to function.
Automatic ime Setting
Connect the CR950 to the mains supply, the built in microprocessor ill
automatically activate the receiver of the Radio Controlled clock and
initiate a search for the time signal.
When the CR950 is receiving the radio time signal, the seconds digits ill
appear in the display and the colon ill flash once every second in time ith
the radio time signal. When the time setting process has been completed,
the exact time and day of the eek ill appear in the display.
The CR950 receives the sycronisation signal from one of the most
accurate clocks in the orld. The signal is transmitted from the official UK
standard frequency and time signal transmitter MSF located at Rugby in
the U.K. Note : During ?? the MSF transmitter closes do n for maintainence
during this time it ill be necesarry to set the clock manualy (see the section
headed Setting the Time and Date Manually). The CR950 ill automaticaly
synchronise ith the MSF time signal hen the transmitter is s itched on.
Automatic Synchronization
Once the time has been set by the radio time signal, the CR950 ill
continue running on its internal precision 4.19 MHz quartz time base, ith
synchronisation to the radio time signal taking place once every hour
starting at the 54th minute.
The precision of the CR950 is not significantly affected even if synchroni-
sation is successful only a fe times per day.
General
Do not allo this unit to be exposed to ater or steam. Do not leave the unit
here excessive heat could cause damage. It is recommended that the
FM band be used herever possible as better results in terms of quality and
freedom from interference ill usually be obtained than on the MW or LW
bands.
Mains supply
The CR950 ill operate from a supply of AC 230-240 volts, 50Hz only.
For your convenience this product is supplied ith a plug hich is fitted
ith a fuse of the appropriate rating. If the plug supplied is not suitable for
your socket outlet, it should be removed by unscre ing the plug top, the
terminal scre s, and removing the cable.
The correct style of plug to suit your household together ith a correctly
rated fuse should be fitted.
IF IN DOUBT - CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN
IMPOR AN . DO NO make any connection to the larger terminal hich
is marked ith the letter E or by the safety earth symbol or coloured
Green or Green-and-yello .
The ires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance ith the follo ing
codes :-
BLUE - NEUTRAL BROWN - LIVE
As these colours may not correspond ith the coloured markings identify-
ing the terminals in your plug, proceed as follo s:
The ire coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal marked N or
coloured BLACK.
The ire coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal marked L or
coloured RED.

for ard (18) or reverse button (20) until the correct year appears.
After setting the time, the CR950 ill continue to run on its o n internal
quartz time base and ill automatically synchronise itself ith the radio
time signal commencing on the 54th minute of every hour. Once synchro-
nisation is achieved the time and date of the radio time signal ill be
restored and displayed.
Note: Pressing the for ard or reverse buttons once ill cause the display
to increment by one. Press and hold do n the for ard or reverse buttons
to rapidly increment the display.
Automatic Summer/Winter ime Switching

Radio Operation
Press the On/Off button (15) to turn on the radio. The LED dial pointer
located in the tuning scale (10) ill light. Select the required aveband

is received. Adjust the volume control (7) to the required sound level.
To s itch off the radio, press the On/Off button (15).
Aerials
The ire aerial located on the rear of the CR950 is for FM reception. The
ire should be fully extended and positioned for optimum reception
There is a built in ferrite aerial for MW and LW stations. Rotate the CR950
to the position giving best reception.
How to Optimise the ime Signal Reception
The time setting or synchronisation takes 2 to 3 minutes to complete if the
reception of the radio time signal is undisturbed. This process ill take
longer if the time signal level is very eak (e.g. in locations that are a long
distance from the MSF transmitter) or if it is subject to interference from
thunderstorms, nearby TV sets, computers or household appliances that
are not suppressed, etc.). In general the CR950 ill receive the time signal
at any place here a radio is able to receive Long Wave broadcast
programmes ell.
The CR950 receives the time signal via its built-in ferrite aerial hich is
directional.
When first connected to the mains supply the signal indicator (3) sho s the
MSF signal level. Rotate the CR950 or change its position until the highest
signal level is obtained.
It is recommended that the CR950 is placed as far a ay as possible from
any sources of interference such as computers or televisions.
Note:
The Signal indicator (3) becomes the eekday indicator after initial time
setting has taken place.
Displaying the Date
