General
Do not allow this unit to be exposed to water or steam. Do not
leave the unit where excessive heat could cause damage. It is
recommended that the FM band be used wherever possible as
better results in terms of quality and freedom from interference
will usually be obtained than on the MW band.
Mains supply
TheCR966willoperatefromasupplyofAC230volts,50Hz
only.
For your convenience this product is supplied with a plug which
is fitted with a fuse of the appropriate rating. If the plug supplied
is not suitable for your socket outlet, it should be removed by
unscrewingthe plug top, theterminalscrews,and removing the
cable.
The correct style of plug to suit your household together with a
correctly rated fuse should be fitted.
IF IN DOUBT - CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN
IMPORTANT. DO NOT make any connection to the larger
terminal which is marked with the letter E or by the safety earth
symbol or coloured Green or Green-and-yellow.
Thewires inthemains leadare coloured inaccordance withthe
followingcodes:-
BLUE - NEUTRAL BROWN - LIVE
Asthesecoloursmaynotcorrespondwiththecolouredmarkings
identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
The wire coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal
marked N or coloured BLACK.
The wire coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal
marked L or coloured RED.
Fuse
Thisapparatusmustbeprotectedbya3Afuse(BS1362)ina13A
plug(BS1363).Ifanothertypeofplugisuseda5Afuseshouldbe
fittedin the plug, adaptor ordistributionboard.
IF IN DOUBT - CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
Back-up battery
Slide the battery cover catch (28) in the direction of the arrow.
Removethe battery cover. Fita9 volt IEC size6LR61(6F22) or
equivalent battery into the compartment. Replace the battery
cover. The time and alarm settings will be retained during a
temporaryfailureoftheAC mains supply. The LED display (19)
willnotbeoperational.Thebatteryisnotnecessaryfortheunitto
function.
Aerials
Thetelescopicaerial(23)locatedontherearoftheCR966isfor
FMreception.Thetelescopicaerialshouldbefullyextendedand
angledforoptimumreception
ThereisabuiltinferriteaerialforMWstations.RotatetheCR966
tothepositiongiving best reception.

Setting the time
Pressandholddownthetimesetbutton(7).Usethehour(9)and
minute (10) buttons to adjust the time to the required setting.
Release the time set button when the required time is reached.
Note:The clockusesa 12hourdisplay with aPM indicator (18).
Ensure that the correct 12 hour cycle is selected.
Radio operation (FM)
SlidetheBuzz/Auto/Off/Onswitch(21)tothe"On"position.Slide
the CD/FM ST./FM/MW switch (22) to the "FM ST." position".
Adjust the volume control (27) until a hissing sound is heard.
Rotatethetuningcontrol(26)untilthedesiredstationisreceived.
Ifthestationbeingreceivedisin'Stereo'thestereoindicator(13)
will illuminate. Adjust the volume control (27) to the required
soundlevel.
IftheFMsignalbecomesweakorisaccompaniedbyahighlevel
ofbackgroundhiss,youmayselect'MONO'modebysettingthe
CD/FMST./FM/MWswitch(22)tothe"FM"position.Toswitchoff
the radio, slide the Buzz/Auto/Off/On switch (21) to the "Off"
position
Radio operation (MW)
SlidetheBuzz/Auto/Off/Onswitch(21)tothe"On"position.Slide
theCD/FMST./FM/MWswitch(22) tothe"MW"position.Adjust
thevolumecontrol(27)untilahissingsoundisheard.Rotatethe
tuningcontrol(26)untilthedesiredstationisreceived.Rotatethe
CR966 to the position giving best reception. Adjust the volume
control (27) to the required sound level.

CD operation
Playing a disc
Presstheopenbutton(6)toopentheCDcompartment.Carefully
place a disc onto the spindle in the CD compartment, ensuring
thatthe label is facingupwards.Close the lidensuringit latches
shut.SlidetheBuzz/Auto/Off/Onswitch(21)tothe"On"position
andtheCD/FMST./FM/MWswitch(22)tothe"CD"position.The
CR966 will automactically play the disc as soon as the CD/FM
ST./FM/MW switch is set to the "CD" position or the CD
compartmentisclosed.
Pausing during CD play
Whilst the CD is playing, press the play/pause button (15) to
pauseplay.Thediscwillcontinuerotating,butplaywillstopand
thepause symbolwill appearon theLCDdisplay(1).Toresume
play,presstheplay/pausebutton(15)again.Thepausesymbol
will disappear from the LCD display.
Stopping CD play
To stop CD play, press the stop button (17) once. The disc will
stop rotating and the display will revert to showing the total
number of tracks and time.
Skipfunction
WhilsttheCD isplaying,presseithertheskipforward(5)orskip
reverse(4) buttons tochangeto the desiredtrack.You can also
skip tracks when the player is in stop mode. Skip to the desired
trackusingtheskip/searchforward(5)orskip/searchreverse(4)
buttonsandpresstheplay/pausebutton(15)tocommenceplay
of the selected track.

Searchfunction
Whilst the CD is playing, press and hold either the skip/search
forward(5)orskip/searchreverse(4)buttons.Releasethebutton
when the desired part of the track is reached.
Repeatfunction
Torepeatonlyonetrack,presstherepeatbutton(2)untiltheLCD
display shows REP 1.
Torepeatalltracksonadisc,presstherepeatbutton(2)untilthe
LCD display shows REP.
Tocanceltherepeatfunction,presstherepeatbutton(2)untilthe
word REP 1 or REP is remove from the LCD display.
Programmedplay
Withprogrammedplayyoucanprogramupto21tracksonadisc
in any order you chose.
Press the memory button (3) to enter program mode. Use the
skip/searchbuttonstoselectthedesiredtrack.Pressthememory
button to store the selected track and move to the next memory
location,usetheskip/searchbuttonstoselectthenexttrackinthe
program.Repeattheabovestepsuntilyouhavecompletedyour
program.Presstheplay/pausebutton(15)tocommenceplayof
your selected tracks. When all tracks in the program have been
playedtheplayer will automatically stop.
Cancellingprogrammedplay
Slidethe Buzz/Auto/Off/On switch(21)to the "Off"position,this
clearsall programmed selections frommemory.

Setting the alarm time
Pressandholddownthealarmsetbutton(8).Usethehourset(9)
and minute set (10) buttons to adjust the time to the required
setting. Release the alarm set button when the required time is
reached.
Wake up to buzzer
Setthealarmtimeasdescribedabove.SlidetheBuzz/Auto/Off/
On switch (21) to the "Buzz" position. The alarm will now sound
at the preset time. To cancel the buzzer alarm slide the Buzz/
Auto/Off/On switch (21) to the "Off" position.
Wake up to radio
Tuneintotherequiredstationandadjustthevolumecontrol(28)
to the level which you wish to wake up to. Set the alarm time as
described above. Slide the Buzz/Auto/Off/On switch (21) to the
"Auto"position.Theradiowillnow turn on at the preset time. To
canceltheradio alarmslide theBuzz/Auto/Off/Onswitch(21)to
the "Off" position.
Wake up to CD
Presstheopenbutton(6)toopentheCDcompartment.Carefully
place a disc onto the spindle in the CD compartment, ensuring
thatthe label is facingupwards.Close the lidensuringit latches
shut. Adjust the volume control (26) to the level which you wish
to wake up to. Slide the CD/FM ST./FM/MW switch (22) to the
"CD" position. Slide the Buzz/Auto/Off/On switch (21) to the
"Auto"position.TheCDwillnowplayatthepresettime.Tocancel
theCD alarmslide theBuzz/Auto/Off/Onswitch (21)to the"Off"
position.

Alarm indicator
Thealarmindicator(20)willilluminatewhentheBuzz/Auto/Off/
On is set to the "Buzz" or "Auto" indicating that the alarm is set.
Snooze function
The buzzer, radio or CD alarm can be silenced for 9 minutes by
pressingthesnoozebutton(12).Thissequencecanberepeated
withinthe 60 minute alarmperiod.
Sleep function
The radio or CD can be set to turn off after a preset time has
elapsed.Set theCD/FM ST./FM/MWswitch (22)totherequired
position.TuneintothedesiredstationorplaceadiscintotheCD
compartment.
Slide the Buzz/Auto/Off/On switch (21) to the "Auto" position.
Press and hold down the sleep button (11). Use the hours and
minutesbuttonstoselectthelengthoftimeyouwouldliketheunit
toplay(maximum1hour)59minutesin1minutesteps.Theunit
will switch off after the sleep time has elapsed.
Dimmer switch
The brightness of the clock display can be adjusted using the
dimmercontrol(16).

Deep bass boost switch
Setting the deep bass boost switch (14) to the "On" position will
enhancebass sounds.
Headphones
A3.5mmsocket(24)ontherearoftheCR966isprovidedforuse
with stereo headphones. Inserting a plug into this socket
automaticallymutestheinternalloudspeakers.
CD line output sockets
Twophonosockets(25)locatedontherearoftheCR966enable
theoutputoftheCDplayertobeplayedthroughanaudiosystem.
BeforeconnectingtheCR966ensurethatthepowertoyouraudio
systemisswitchedoff.ConnecttheCDlineoutputsocketstothe
CD or AUX input sockets of your audio system using a suitable
lead(notincluded).
