EL 500 RFID Electronic Cabinet Lock

Front Panel Features
1. Key Override – Used to open the cabinet manually.
2. RFID Reader Head.
3. Keypad.
4. Program Key – Used to enter programming mode.
5. Green LED status indicator.
6. Red LED status indicator.
7. Lock Key – Used to electronically lock the cabinet.
8. Clear Key – Used to clear current keyboard entry.
Unlock the Cabinet
To unlock the cabinet with the Keypad, enter a valid User Code (factory default is 1234). The Green LED will illuminate,
and the mechanism will move to the <Unlocked> position.
To unlock the cabinet with an RFID Card, present a valid RFID card to the reader head (see programming instructions to
validate a card).
If the cabinet is already locked, the Green LED will flash.
Lock the Cabinet
To lock the cabinet, press the Lock key <L> on the Keypad. The the Red LED will flash, and the mechanism will move to
the <Locked> position.
If the cabinet is already locked, the Red LED will flash.
Programming
Overview of Programming teps
1. Press the Program Key <P>.
2. Enter the valid Master Code.
3. Enter a User/Parameter location.
4. Enter the desired User Code.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to continue entering users, or <999> to exit.
In the course of programming, the two status LEDs will flash, to indicate that an operation is successful, or that additional
data is needed. Make sure to wait for those prompts before attempting to enter data.
Detailed Programming teps
To Enter Program Mode:
1. Press <P> Key. Red and Green LED will blink 4 times, to indicate Program Mode.
2. Enter the 4-digit Master Code (Default is 1234).
3. If the Master Code is incorrect, the Red LED will blink 4 times, and the system will exit Program Mode.
4. If the Master Code is correct, the Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the User/Parameter location.

About User/Parameter Locations
Valid 3-digit User/Parameter Locations are:
000 Master Code Location
001 – 499 User Code Locations
900 Dual-mode Location
901 Tamper-lockout Time Location
902 Auto-lock Time in Minutes
903 Auto-lock Time in Seconds
999 Exit Programming mode
If an invalid User or Parameter is entered, the Red LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the
User/Parameter location.
To Enter a New Master Code
1. Enter 000 ( Master Code Location). The Green LED will blink 4 times, to prompt the entry of the Master Code
2. Enter the New 4-Digit Master Code. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next
User/Parameter location.
To Enter a New User Code With the Keypad
1. Enter a location 001 - 499 (User Code locations). The Green LED will blink 4 times, to prompt the entry of the
User Code.
2. Enter the New 4 Digit User Code. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next
User/Parameter location.
To Enter a New User Code With an RFID Card
3. Enter a location 001 - 499 (User Code locations). The Green LED will blink 4 times, to prompt the entry of the
User Code.
4. Present the RFID Card to the reader head. The Green LED will blink, to indicate a valid read, or the Red LED
will blink, to indicate an invalid read.
5. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next User/Parameter location.
To Delete a User Code
1. Enter a location 001 - 499 (User Code location to delete). The Green LED will blink 4 times, to prompt the deletion
of a User Code.
2. Enter 0000 to disable that location. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next
User/Parameter location.
To Enable or Disable Dual Mode
Dual mode requires that two different users must enter their codes within 1 minute.
If two valid codes are not entered, the cabinet will not unlock.
1. Enter location 900 (Dual Mode Location). the Green LED will blink once, to prompt the entry of the Dual Mode
Parameter.
2. Enter the New Dual Mode Parameter
▪0 = Disable Dual Mode (default)
▪1 = Enable Dual Mode
3. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next User/Parameter location.
To Change Tamper Lockout Time
Tamper Lockout sets the amount of time that the lock is disabled after a tamper condition has occurred (tamper
is defined as 5 invalid entries in xx minutes).
1. Enter location 901 (Tamper Lockout Time) the Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the Tamper
Lockout Time in seconds.
2. Enter the New Tamper Lockout Time (default is 300 Seconds)
3. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next User/Parameter location.

To Change the Auto-lock Time
Auto-lock Time is the amount of time that the lock remains open before the cabinet automatically locks. Any
time from 1 second to 999 minutes is valid.
To Change Auto Lock Minutes
1. Enter location 902 ( Auto-lock Minutes ). The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the Auto Lock
Time in minutes.
2. Enter the New Auto-lock Minutes (Default is Disabled)
•000 Disabled **
•001 – 999 Open time in minutes
3. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next User/ Parameter location.
To Change Auto Lock econds
1. Enter location 903 (Auto-lock Seconds). The Green LED will blink 2 times, to prompt the entry of the the Auto-lock
time in seconds.
2. Enter the New Auto-lock Time (Default is Disabled)
▪00 Disabled **
▪15 Open time in Seconds ( 15 Seconds)
3. The Green LED will blink 3 times, to prompt the entry of the next User/Parameter location.
** NOTE: Both Auto-lock Minutes and econds must be set to 0 to disable Auto-lock.
To Exit Program Mode
Enter 999. The Red and Green LED will blink twice, and the system will exit Program Mode
If there is no activity on the Keypad for 1 minute, the system will automatically exit Program Mode

Troubleshooting
QEven though I enter a valid user code, the Green LED lights, then both the Red and Green LEDs start to blink
without the lock opening.
AThe lock cannot reach the <unlocked> position. This could be caused by:
1. Low batteries
2. One of the batteries dislodged from its holder
3. The Motor Cable is disconnected or loose
4. A failure or interference in the Lock Mechanism
5. A failure in the Lock Control
QWhen I push the Lock Key, the Red LED lights, then the both the Red and Green LEDs start to blink without
the lock opening.
AThe lock cannot reach the <locked> position. This could be caused by:
1. Low batteries
2. One of the batteries dislodged from its holder
3. The Motor Cable is disconnected or loose
4. A failure or interference in the Lock Mechanism
5. A failure in the Lock Control
QWhen I enter a valid code, the Green light blinks twice, yet the cabinet remains locked.
AThe lock is in Dual-mode and waiting for the second code to open the lock.
QWhen I present my RFID Card to the Reader Head, nothing happens.
A
1. The card is incompatible or corrupt
2. The Reader Head is unplugged from the control unit
3. The Reader Head is faulty
4. A Failure in the Lock Control
QWhile attempting to program a user with an RFID Card, the Green LED blinks 3 times, then the Red LED blinks
once. That sequence continues indefinitely.
A
1. The Reader Head is not fully plugged into the control unit
2. The Reader Head is faulty
3. A failure in the Lock Control

Resetting the Lock
There can be circumstances when a partial or total reset of the lock is necessary. For example, if a master code is
forgotten, or the cabinet has been without power for an extended period of time, a reset can be used to restore normal
operation.
Refer to this diagram for guidance.
Resetting the Master Code
1. Open the cabinet (using the key, if necessary).
2. Inside the cabinet, locate the Lock Control unit behind the keyboard.
3. Locate the <Reset> button (recessed area near the lower edge of the control).
4. Push and release the button. This will reset the Master Code to 1234.
Resetting to Factory Defaults
1. Place the Cabinet in <Program> mode by pressing the <P> Key.
2. Press the <Reset> button, as described in the instructions above.
3. The Cabinet will be set to Factory Defaults as follows:
▪Master Code will be reset to 1234.
▪All User Codes will be erased.
▪Dual Mode will be disabled.
▪Tamper-lockout time will be set to 300 seconds.
▪Auto-lock will be disabled.

Component Identification and Reference
1. Battery Holder (located on back of cabinet). Requires Four (4) D-Cell Batteries.
2. Lock Mechanism (located on inside ceiling of cabinet). Provides mechanical locking & unlocking.
3. Control Interface Cable. Connects the Lock Control Board to the Lock Mechanism.
4. RFID Reader Head (mounted on the front exterior of the cabinet). Reads compatible RFID Cards. Connected to
the Lock Control Board.
5. Keypad.
6. Lock Control Unit. Main electronic control board for the locking system.
7. Communication Cable. Connects the Lock Control Unit to the Communication Interface Board.
8. Communication Interface (located on rear wall of the cabinet). Used to communicate to a computer via a
CartTrakTM U B Interface for auditing and control (sold separately).
