Important safety instructions!
For the safety of persons it is impor-
tant to follow these instructions!
Please keep the manual and hand it over
to the new owner in case of change of
ownership!
This appliance can be used by children
aged from 8 years and above and per-
sons with reduced physical, sensory or
mental capabilities or lack of experience
and knowledge if they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use
of the appliance in a safe way and under-
stand the hazards involved.
Children are not allowed to play with the
device.
Cleaning and maintenance by the user
must not be carried out by children wit-
hout supervision.
WARNING!
The motor must be disconnected from its
power source during cleaning, mainte-
nance and parts replacement.
After unpacking, compare the motor
type with the corresponding information
on the nameplate.
Incomplete devices or devices that do
not comply with the specifications must
not be put into operation.
WARNING!
Non-observance may result in danger
to life!
During all work on electrical there is a risk
of fatal injury from electric shock!
The mains connection of the motor and
all work on electrical installations may
only be carried out by an authorized
electrician in accordance with the con-
nection diagrams in this manual.
Carry out all assembly and connection
work in a de-energized state.
For use in damp rooms, observe the re-
gulations for installation in damp rooms,
especially DIN VDE 0100, Parts 701 and
702.
Observe the protective measures contai-
ned in these regulations.
The use of defective devices can endan-
ger persons and cause damage to pro-
perty (electric shock, short circuit).
Never use defective or damaged equip-
ment.
Check the motor and power cord for
intactness.
Please contact our service department
(see last page for contact details) if
you notice any damage to the device.
ATTENTION!
It is essential to observe the notes on
installation and connection!
Improper installation and assembly
can lead to serious injuries!
Lay the power cable of the motor in-
ternally in the empty conduit up to the
junction box, observing the local electri-
cal regulations.
Mains cables must not be laid in the
winding space of the plant. Make sure
that the power cable does not come into
contact with moving parts of the plant.

For the electrical connection, a power
connection with 230 V/50 Hz and an on-
site disconnecting device (fuse) must be
permanently available at the installation
site.
To avoid hazards, the power cord may
only be replaced by the manufacturer,
its customer service or a similarly
qualified person.
Only the same cable type may be used,
supplied by the motor manufacturer,
may be used.
Attach permanently mounted control
devices visibly.
Both rated torque and rated operating
time must be compatible with the
characteristics of the driven equipment.
ATTENTION!
Observe the notes on installation and
operation of the system!
Failure to observe this warning may
result in risk of injury!
Proper operation of the equipment
is only guaranteed if it is properly
installed, mounted, supplied with
sufficient power and maintained.
Secure the system against unauthorized
operation.
Take safety precautions against
unintentional switch-on.
Before working on the system,
disconnect all connecting lines to be
installed from the power supply and
secure them against unintentional
reconnection. Remove all lines that are
not required.
Set all devices that are not required
for operation with the motor out of
operation.
Attach the operating element of a
manual release (emergency hand crank)
below a height of 1.8 m.
ATTENTION!
It is essential to observe the
instructions for correct use and the
operating conditions!
There is an increased risk of injury if
used improperly!
Use the motors only for opening and
closing awnings or textile sunshades.
Only use original components and
accessories from the manufacturer.
Instruct all persons in the safe use of the
engine.
Watch the moving equipment and keep
people away from it until the movement
has stopped.
Place warning signs on automatically
moving equipment if necessary.
Prohibit children from playing with
stationary controls or with the remote
control.
Store the handheld transmitter in such
a way that unintentional operation, e.g.
by children playing, is impossible.
Carry out all cleaning work on the sun
shading system in a de-energized state.
Take special care with moving and open
/ extended equipment, as parts may
fall if fastenings (e.g. springs, brackets,
consoles, etc.) weaken or are broken.

The following installation
instructions must be observed!
The range of radio controls is regulated
by the legal requirements for radio
equipment and is influenced by
structural conditions, among other
things.
When planning, make sure you have
adequate radio reception.
This is especially true if the radio
transmitter is located in a different room
than the radio receiver, and therefore
the radio signal must penetrate walls or
ceilings.
Do not install the radio control in the
direct vicinity of large metallic surfaces.
Other transmitting equipment (e.g.
radio headphones, baby monitors, radio
weather stations) whose transmission
frequency is identical to that of the
radio control unit may interfere with
reception.

ATTENTION!
The following mounting instructions
must be observed!
Before mounting, compare the mains
voltage / frequency specifications on
the nameplate with those of the local
mains.
The changeover time for changing the
running direction must be at least 0.5
seconds!
The switches or controls used must
not execute a simultaneous UP/DOWN
command!
Moving parts of motors operating
below a height of 2.5 m above the
ground must be protected.
The winding shaft must be mounted
horizontally! If the hangings are wound
up at an angle, the motor or the
hangings may be damaged.
Inspection openings must be easily
removable and accessible and must not
be permanently closed off inaccessibly.
IMPORTANT!
For permanently installed devices, a
disconnecting device for each phase
must be provided on the part of the
installation in accordance with DIN VDE
0700.
Switches with a contact opening width
of at least 3 mm (e.g. circuit breakers,
fuses or RCDs) are considered to be
disconnecting devices.
The liability of the manufacturer for
defects and damage is excluded if
these are due to non-observance of the
assembly and operating instructions
(incorrect installation, incorrect
operation, etc.).

Prepare assembly
• Before starting the installation, please read the operating instructions carefully and completely and
observe the safety instructions (pages 3-5).
• Make sure that the awning is not damaged and that it opens and closes smoothly. If necessary, have
damaged parts replaced.
• Before installation, check all moving parts for tight fit in the bearings and brackets (support tube, fabric
shaft, joints, arm holders) and make sure that the joint arms of the awning cannot move uncontrollably.
• Always use appropriate protective equipment (gloves, safety shoes, etc.).
• Before use, check all work equipment (scaffolds, ladders, tools, etc.) and all safety equipment (harnesses,
ropes, etc.) for integrity.
• Take safety precautions against unintentional operation of the system.
• Before working on the system, disconnect all connecting lines to be installed from the power supply and
secure them against unintentional reconnection.
• Never use defective or damaged equipment.
• Check that the motor and power cord are intact.
• Lay the power cable in a loop so that water cannot enter the motor head.
• Always ensure that the motor can be pushed into the shaft as far as it will go.
• Do not drill into the motor.
• Do not shorten the antenna, do not wrap it over the power line and keep it away from metal objects.
• Make sure that the correct adapters and drivers are used.
• Protect the power cord and antenna from moving parts.
• The motor may only be mounted in a horizontal position.
ATTENTION!
Danger to life!
The articulated arms of awnings are under strong tension.
Secure the articulated arms with a rope or tension belts before working on the awning!
ATTENTION!
Do not “test run”the motor outside the shaft.
The motor must be completely inserted into the shaft so that the limit switching can work properly. In
addition, tubular motors reach their max. permissible operating temperature very quickly when operated
without load.
ATTENTION!
Awnings must not be operated if there is a risk of icing!
In winter, switch off any automatic devices that may be connected.
ATTENTION!
There is a danger to life from electric shock when working on electrical equipment!
The mains connection of the tubular motor and all work on electrical installations may only be carried out
by an authorized electrician in accordance with the respective connection diagrams of the device.
Carry out all assembly and connection work in a de-energized state.

Electrical connection
The ELFIM45-M is equipped with a 0.5m connection cable with Hirschmann plug STAS-3.
To connect the actuator, the mains supply line must be wired with a Hirschmann* STAK-3 coupling.
Setting the direction of rotation of the motor see page 10!

Before you start the assembly:
Follow the instructions of the awning manufacturer when installing the motor!
Assembly and programming must be carried out by qualified personnel, or persons who have proven
relevant experience and skills.
Use of the engine or modifications to the engine outside the scope of these instructions may void the
warranty.

1. Programming the first handheld transmitter (Compatible handheld and wall transmitters and sensors see page 16)
ATTENTION! If several motors are connected to one phase, all motors that are not to be
operated with this hand-held transmitter must be disconnected from the mains, otherwise
they may also be set to programming readiness and the hand-held transmitter will also be
programmed for them!
1.1 Connect the motor to the power supply according to the wiring diagram.
ATTENTION!
There is a danger to life from electric shock when working on electrical equipment!
The mains connection of the tubular motor and all work on electrical installations may only be carried out by an authorized
electrician in accordance with the respective connection diagrams of the device.
Carry out all assembly and connection work in a de-energized state!
1.2 Switch on the power supply (fuse ON).
1.3 The motor moves briefly (vibrates) and/or the motor beeps.
The motor is in programming mode for approx. 6 seconds.
1.4 Press the P2 key on the handheld transmitter twice within approx. 6 seconds.
1.5 Then immediately press the UP key* on the handheld transmitter.
1.6 Drive moves up/down briefly.
Handheld transmitter is programmed.
1.7 *Conditionally check the direction of rotation of the motor!
When pressing the OPEN button, the awning must CLOSE!
If the awning opens when the Open button is pressed, the direction of rotation of the drive
must be changed. of the drive must be changed!
To do this, start from the beginning and, after pressing the P2 key, press the DOWN key instead of
the *Up key.
ATTENTION!
Changing the direction of rotation of the motor is only possible if NO end positions are
programmed!
If end positions have already been programmed, they must first be deleted (see page 14).

2. Setting the end positions
2.1 Setting the end position OPEN (Down).
2.1.1 Press the P2 - UP - P2 keys on the handheld
transmitter in succession.
Drive moves up/down briefly.
2.1.2 Open the awning with the DOWN key.
2.1.3 Stop the awning at the desired OPEN position
with the STOP key.
2.1.4 Press the STOP key 5 times.
Drive moves up/down briefly.
End position OPEN (Down) is set.
Continue with setting the end position CLOSED (OPEN):
2.2 Setting the end position CLOSED (OPEN) -
Automatic mode
Immediately after setting the end position OPEN (Down):
2.2.1 Close the awning with the UP key.
As soon as the drop-out profile hits the stop (cassette),
the drive stops automatically.
End position CLOSED (OPEN) is set.
2.3 Setting the end position CLOSED (OPEN) -
Manual mode (alternative)
Immediately after setting the end position OPEN (Down):
2.3.1 Close the awning with the UP key.
2.3.2 Stop the awning at the desired position CLOSED
with the STOP button.
2.3.3 Press the STOP key 5 times.
Drive moves up/down briefly.
End position CLOSED (OPEN) is set.
ATTENTION! A hand-held transmitter must be programmed and the direction of rotation of
the motor must be set! The direction of rotation of the motor must be set so that the OPEN
button on the hand-held transmitter closes the awning!

3. Setting the comfort position
An intermediate position (comfort position) can
be stored between the end positions OPEN
(closed) and DOWN (open).
3.1 The end positions OPEN (closed) and DOWN (open)
must be programmed.
3.1.1 Move the awning to the desired position using
the UP or DOWN key.
3.1.2 Stop the awning at the desired position using
the STOP key.
3.1.3 Press the STOP key 5 times.
Drive moves up/down briefly.
Intermediate position (comfort position) is set.
To move to the comfort position, press the STOP
key and hold it for approx. 5 seconds.
Deleting the comfort position:
1. Approach the position with the STOP key.
2. Press the STOP key 5 times.
Drive moves up/down briefly.
Intermediate position (comfort position) is
deleted.
4. Activate / deactivate the jog mode
In jog mode, the drive can be controlled step by
step by briefly pressing the up or down key.
4.1 Activate / deactivate the jog mode
4.1.1 Press the P2 - UP - DOWN keys on the
handheld transmitter in succession.

5. Setting the overrun function
(function cloth length compensation)
The overtravel function to compensate for cloth
elongation can be set separately for both running
directions.
5.1 Setting the overrun function in OPEN direction
(Close awning).
5.1.1 Press the P2 - STOP - OPEN keys on the
handheld transmitter in succession.
Motor moves up/down and beeps.
Motor beeps 1 x = overrun function
deactivated
Motor beeps 3 x = overrun function activated
After the motor (the awning) has reached the
upper end position (awning closed), the motor
runs a short distance in the opposite direction of
travel to relax the fabric.
5.2 Setting the overtravel function in the DOWN
direction (Open awning).
5.2.1 Press the P2 - STOP - DOWN keys on the
handheld transmitter in succession.
Motor moves up/down and beeps.
Motor beeps 1 x = overrun function
deactivated
Motor beeps 3 x = overrun function activated
After the motor (the awning) has reached the
lower end position (awning open), the drive runs a
short distance in the opposite direction of travel
to relax the fabric.

6. Programming additional handheld or wall transmitters
To create further operating options,
additional hand-held or wall-mounted transmitters can be
programmed. can be programmed. The code is transferred
from an already programmed transmitter to the additional
transmitter (copied).
6.1.1 Press key P2 3 times in succession on an already
programmed handheld transmitter.
6.1.2 1 x P2 key on the new programming

7. Delete handheld and wall transmitters / sensors
7.1 Press the P2 - STOP - P2 keys on the handheld transmitter
in succession.
Motor moves up/down and beeps.
Hand-held wall transmitters and sensors are deleted.
8. Delete end positions
8.1 Press the P2 - DOWN - P2 keys on the handheld
transmitter in succession.
Motor moves up/down and beeps.
The end positions of the motor are deleted!

ATTENTION! ALL hand-held or wall-mounted transmitters as well as programmed sensors, if
any, will be (sun- wind sensor, vibration sensor) deleted!
Individual deletion of transmitters or sensors is not possible.
ATTENTION!
Take special care to avoid damage to the awning!
After deleting the end positions, the drive runs "endlessly".
Among other things, the awning cloth can be wound up "negatively" or the awning can be
damaged!

9. Sun-wind sensor
The ELFIM-45M awning motors are specially
designed for use in awnings and can be controlled
directly via suitable sun, wind or vibration
sensors.
9.1 Programming Solar Wind Sensor RSWS-01
9.1.1 Press key P2 3 times in succession on an
already programmed handheld transmitter.
9.1.2 Press the P2 key on the RSWS-01 once.
Motor moves up/down briefly.
RSWS-01 is programmed.
9.2 Activating the "Sun" function
9.2.1 Successively press the P2 - UP - UP keys on the
handheld transmitter.
Motor moves up/down briefly.
Motor beeps 3 x = sun function activated
9.3 Deactivating the "Sun" function
9.3.1 Successively press the P2 - DOWN - DOWN
keys on the handheld transmitter.
Motor moves up/down briefly.

Troubleshooting / FAQ
The motor does not respond to the handheld
transmitter
Possible cause 1:
• Handheld transmitter not programmed.
Solution 1:
• See page 9 "Programming the first handheld
transmitter".
Possible cause 2:
• Battery of the handheld transmitter empty or too low.
Solution 2:
• Check the battery of the handheld transmitter and
replace it if necessary.
The motor moves in the wrong direction at the push
of a button.
Possible Cause:
• Hand-held transmitter / direction of rotation
incorrectly programmed.
Solution:
• Check the direction of rotation of the motor and
reprogram the handheld transmitter.
• See page 9 "Programming the first handheld
transmitter".
The motor does not respond to the sun-wind sensor
Possible cause 1:
• Sensor not programmed.
Solution 1:
• See page 14 "Programming the sensor".
Possible cause 2:
• Sun" function is deactivated.
Solution 1:
• See page 14 "Activating the Sun function".
The motor does not start.
Possible Cause:
• The mains voltage is missing.
Solution:
• Use a voltmeter to check whether the supply voltage
(230 V) is present and check the wiring. Pay particular
attention to the information on impermissible types of
connection.
• Check installation.
The engine stops and hums when starting up.
Possible Cause:
• Obstruction on the curtain (dirt / icing etc.).
Solution:
• Remove obstacle.
Clear the hangings in the downward direction.
The motor does not raise or lower the curtain, starts too
slowly or with loud noises.
Possible cause 1:
• The connections are not correct.
Solution 1:
• Check connections.
Possible cause 2:
• Incorrect installation or overload.
Solution 2:
• Check installation and tensile load.
The hanging stops during lifting or lowering.
Possible cause 1:
• Set end point is reached.
Solution 1:
• Set end points again according to instructions.
Possible cause 2:
• Operating time has been exceeded (4 minutes).
Solution 2:
• Allow engine to cool for approx. 20 minutes.
Possible cause 3:
