DigiScore™ puts the fun in piano practice
With any instrument, practice makes perfect. But when it comes to children, interest and motivation
can be lost quickly. Perhaps you’ve had these thoughts when your child was about to take up the piano:
“What can motivate my child to willingly spend time at the piano?”
“What kind of home practice is most effective in making my child a better pianist?”
“It would be great if my child could continue without losing interest, but how?”
To improve at the piano, repetition is the key to success. But, before that there is something even more
essential. It’s vital for children to enjoy playing and, most importantly, to acquire a love for the piano.
HPi-7S HPi-6S
I want to take more lessons because
it’s enjoyable! Roland’s DigiScore
Roland's HPi series piano with DigiScore system provide ingenious ways
to get your child to sit down at the piano and practice without losing interest.
Your child will acquire a solid foundation in the fundamentals of piano
while having a great time playing. It's fun and exciting, but musically enriching!

Music Notation on LCD:
the Advanced DigiScore™
Roland's unique music-notation system, DigiScore,
will display the music of more than 200 built-in songs
onscreen. You can also use DigiScore with commercially
available SMF music data, and to show music recorded
on the piano. To allow you to concentrate on playing, the
score scrolls automatically as the piece plays. Along with
the Bouncing Ball, you can play along with a visual aid
to help you match the tempo. You can also control
the metronome for a comfortable play-along speed. It's
a fun way to develop
both sight-reading skills
and a natural sense of
rhythm. Practice is more
effective when you can
confirm what you are
playing with your ears
and eyes.
Visual Lesson — the Best Practice
Partner in Your Home!
From three courses, you
can select the one that
suits your level. As you
play, the keys you press
are displayed onscreen
and in real time as
musical notation. When
you finish playing, your
grade for note accuracy
and rhythm is displayed.
You can pinpoint, with your
eyes and ears, just where
you need to improve, and
have fun as you improve
your skills.
Side-by-side Practice is Fun:
Twin-Piano
Twin-Piano is designed for side-by-side lessons or
performances with a mother or duet partner. It
enables the keyboard to be split into two parts,
each of which covers the same octaves. In the same
way, the left and right pedals can be reassigned to
act as damper pedals
for either side of the
split keyboard. It's a
great way to learn, as
a parent, teacher, or
other player sitting on
the left can play a
note or chord, and a
child, sitting on the
right, has to match it.
In a Twin-Piano game
situation with another
person, a student can
have fun while
naturally cultivating a
musical ear.
Other Advantages...
A Variety of Lesson Functions
for Effective Practice at Home
The HPi-series pianos have built-in recorders, so you can
listen to your performances objectively. Moreover, the
built-in songs and music data can be displayed and
played back with both right- and left-hand parts
presented separately. You can also play back
accompaniment parts for the experience of performing
with an ensemble.
Master the Basics of Sight
Reading and Fingering:
DoReMi Course
It's a perfect way for beginners to learn the
fundamentals of piano: pitch, rhythm, sight-reading,
fingering, and the "thumb under" technique. This
interactive system is designed for players of all ages
and skill levels, with
onscreen illustrations that
display correct fingering.
Presented in a game
format, DoReMi allows
you to easily improve your
fingering skills while
having fun.
Let's Get Acquainted with
Tones: Wonderland
Wonderland is the program that, with amusing animation,
attracts children while teaching them the sounds of musical
instruments and sound
effects. Children can
learn all about pitch
and chords within the
friendly form of a game.
It’s so fun, even adults
will find themselves
absorbed.

A new dimension of learning
and teaching with the
synergy of Microjazz and HPi
For onboard music data, the HPi series includes
50 sampler songs from the acclaimed
Microjazz's catalog, a world-famous series of
pieces based on classical technique yet using
popular contemporary styles such as jazz, blues,
rock, and funk. Combining Microjazz's music
with the visual lesson features of DigiScore,
you can add an
exciting interactive
dimension to practice
and performance.
"Microjazz has been around for
nearly 25 years and is the series
of choice for young pianists
around the world. The HPi series
features 50 Microjazz pieces and
Roland's innovative software can
be used to improve your music reading, develop your
ear and increase your enjoyment of playing the piano. "
All songs are written and performed by Christopher Norton.

PHA II Keyboard
with Escapement
(PHA II = Progressive Hammer Action II)
HPi series pianos share Roland's acclaimed PHA II
keyboard in common. These next-generation keyboards
feature a redesigned progressive hammer-action mechanism
for a natural touch response from pianissimo to fortissimo.
Without the use of springs, the keyboard uses hammer
weight to achieve the same responsive natural touch as a
grand piano. Keys for low
notes are more heavily
weighted. As you move up
the keyboard, the key weight
becomes progressively
lighter. The escapement
architecture of the HPi keys
reproduces the characteristic
"click feel" of a grand piano
for the ultimate in realistic
performance and expression.
Ivory Feel
The HPi-7S incorporates Roland's PHA II "Ivory Feel" feature.
This amazing new keyboard technology
reproduces the feel of ivory
for the natural keys and ebony
for the sharps, providing the
stability and comfort of a real
acoustic-piano keyboard. The
natural keys have a 2-piece
structure that consists of base-
and surface-material
layers, and they're
designed to absorb
moisture, ensuring a
secure, slip-proof feel that
your fingers will love.
Authentic Grand-Piano
Sound & Performance
To accurately reproduce the subtlety of a full concert
grand piano, Roland has created an 88-key multi-
sampled piano sound in which the distinctive acoustic
properties of each key have been captured. This, plus a
128-voice polyphonic voice engine, gives players a true
and authentic performance experience, even during the
most delicate or fast passages, dense sustains, and
damper pedaling.
Advanced Speaker System Delivers
the Vibrant Sound of a Concert
Performance
Equipped with Roland’s new Grand Piano Presence II
speaker system, the HPi-7S and HPi-6S can deliver the
full, resonant sound of the finest concert grand. Speakers
for the high and mid-range provide stereo accuracy, with
powerful bass reinforcement for
lower frequencies. Listeners
experience the same enveloping
sound as when an acoustic grand
piano is played.
Pedals Provide Complete Control
The damper and soft pedals continually sense every
detail of how they are pressed. For delicacy of
playing expression, you can enjoy the same pedal
effects of an acoustic grand piano, such as changing
the sound according to damper contact with the
strings and controlling the amount of release vibration
by partially pressing the damper pedal.
An Exquisite Piano with a Large
Presence
The natural-look cabinet exudes class, complementing
the piano's high-quality sound and touch. The front
legs provide a stable and secure playing position, and
give a strong, stately appearance. With its authentic
"Classic Position"* piano look and feel, the HPi-7S
provides a familiar, comfortable environment so the
player can concentrate on his/her performance.
*HPi-7S only
"Piano Designer" Sound
Customization
For those who wish to customize the piano sound to
suit their personal taste, the Piano Designer feature
allows friendly access to a variety of tone-shaping
controls. Fine adjustments, with visual confirmation
from Graphic LCD display, enable you to get the
sound you want, such as piano resonance or the
effects of different lid positioning. Create the perfect
custom sound, and save it for instant recall.
The Presence and Depth of a
Grand Piano
The 3D Sound Control of the Roland HPi piano
provides depth that belies the cabinet size. You'll feel
as if you were playing an
actual concert grand!
Moreover, using dynamic
sound control, you can
manipulate the sound
texture to make it shine
through the densest of
ensemble performances.
Audio Song Playback in Any Key for Play Along Fun
For play-along enjoyment and skill-building experience, the HPi-7S and HPi-6S let you play back songs
on CD*. You can even minimize the pre-recorded vocals with the Center Cancel feature, and transpose
the key with a Pitch Change feature. If you plug in a mic, you can accompany your own singing or use
one of the many pre-recorded performances
in the HPi-7S to provide impressive
backing for karaoke. The HPi-7S and HPi-6S can
also playback audio files (WAV format) and
Standard MIDI Files via USB memory stick.
*To play back from a CD, a USB CD drive is required.
Connect your Audio Device to Roland Audio
For quick playback, the HPi-7S and
HPi-6S are equipped with a Roland
Audio Port, which lets you connect
an iPod® or any portable music
player so you can practice along
instantly with your favorite songs.
Expand Your Performance with a Large screen Display
With the HPi-7S, you can connect an external computer monitor or large-screen TV and view DigiScore
on a much bigger screen. The score will be even easier to read if you remove the music rest and place
the external display in front of you on the piano. By playing music and images from VIMA TUNES
CD-ROMs (sold separately),* you can enjoy the beautiful sound of top-quality music being played
automatically along with lyrics and a slide show of beautiful
pictures.
*VIMA TUNES™
“VIMA TUNES” is a standard created by Roland to enable enjoyment of images
with lyrics, while music is being played. Data recorded in this format — which
includes music data, image information, and lyrics — is called VIMA TUNES data.
If you play VIMA TUNES data with a compatible device, or on a PC using VIMA
TUNE PLAYER software, you can enjoy slideshows or karaoke with pictures and
lyrics displayed on a TV, external monitor, or other connected display device.
