1. PCF50601
1.1 Power Management
Tenlow-dropoutregulatorsdesignedspecificallyforGSMapplicationspowertheterminaland
helpensureoptimalsystemperformance and long batterylife.Aprogrammableboostconverter
provides supportfor1.8V, 3.0V,and 5.0VSIMs,whileaself-resetting, electronicallyfused
switchsuppliespowertoexternalaccessories.Ancillarysupportfunctions,suchasRTCmodule
and High VoltageChargepump, Clock generator,aidinreducing both boardarea and system
complexity.
I2C BUSserial interface providesaccess tocontroland configuration registers.Thisinterface
givesamicroprocessor full controlofthePCF50601 and enables systemdesignerstomaximize
bothstandby and talktimes.
Supervisoryfunctionsincluding aresetgenerator,aninputvoltagemonitor,and atemperature
sensor,supportreliablesystemdesign. Thesefunctionsworktogethertoensurepropersystem
behaviorduring start-up orinthe eventofafault condition(lowmicroprocessorvoltage,
insufficientbatteryenergy, orexcessivedietemperature).
1.2 BacklightBrightness Modulator
TheBacklightBrightness Modulator (BBM)containsaprogrammablePulse-widthmodulator
(PWM)and FET tomodulatetheintensity ofaseriesofLED’sortocontrolaDC/DC
converterthatdrivesLCDbacklight.Thisphone(SGH-E100)worksby PWM.

1.3 ClockGenerator
TheClockGenerator (CG)generatesall clocksforinternaland externalusage.The32768 Hz
crystaloscillatorprovidesanaccuratelowclockfrequencyforthePCF50601 and othercircuitry.
2. LCD Connector
LCDisconsisted ofmainLCD(color65KTFT LCD)and small LCD(B/W).Chipselect
signals,LCD_MAIN_CSand LCD_SUB_CS,canenableEachLCD.LCD_MAIN_CSsignal
enableswhiteLEDofmainLCDand LCD_SUB_CSsignalenablesthesmall LCD.
"RESET_2V8"signal initiatestheResetprocess oftheLCD.
16-bit datalines(HD(0)~HD(15)) transfersdata and commandstoLCD.
"SPK_P"and "SPK_N"areusedforaudiospeaker.And "VDD_VIB"fromPCF50601 enables
themotor.
3. IRDA
This systemusesIRDA module,HSDL_3201. Thishas signals,"IRDA_DOWN"(enablesignal),
"RXD0"(inputdata)and "TXD0"(outputdata).Thesesignalsare connectedtoOM6357.
Itusestwo powersignals."VDD2"isusedforcircuit and "VBAT"isusedforLED.
4. Key
Thisisconsisted ofkeyinterface pinsamong OM6357, KBIO(0:7).Thesesignalscomposethe
matrix. Result ofmatrixinformsthekeystatusto keyinterface intheOM6357. Poweron/off
keyis separatedfrom thematrix. So poweron/off signal isconnectedwithPCF50601 toenable
PCF50601. twelvekeyLEDusethe"VBAT"supply voltage."VDD_KEY"signalenables
LEDswithcurrentcontrol."FLIP"informsthestatusof folder (open orclosed)totheOM6357.
Thisusesthehall effectIC,A3212ELH.AmagnetundermainLCDenablesA3212ELH.
5. EMIESDFilter
This systemusestheEMIESDfilter,EMIF09 to protectnoisefromIFCONNECTORpart.
6. IFConnector
It is24-pinconnector.Theyaredesignedto useVBAT,V_EXT_CHARGE,TXD0, RXD0,
RTS0, CTS0, JIG_REC,CHARGER_OK,RXD1, TXD1, AUX_MIC,AUX_SPKand GND.
Theyconnectedto powersupplyIC,microprocessorand signalprocessor IC.
7. BatteryCharge Management
Acomplete constant-current/constant-voltagelinearcharger forsingle cell lithium-ion batteries.
If TAconnectedto phone,"V_EXT_CHARGE"enable charger ICand supplycurrent to battery.

EARP_Pand EARP_NfromOM6357 are connectedtothemainspeaker.AUXSP isconnectedto
theHandsfree kit.MIC_Pand MIC_Nare connectedtothemainMIC.And AUX_MIC_Pand
AUX_MIC_Nare connectedtotheHandsfree kit.
YMU762MA3isaLSI forportabletelephonethat iscapableofplaying high qualitymusicby
utilizing FM synthesizerand ADPCMdecoderthatareincludedinthisdevice.
Asasynthesis,YMU762MA3isequipped 32 voiceswith different tones.Since thedevice is
capableofsimultaneously generating up tosynchronouswiththeplay oftheFM synthesizer,
various sampled voicescan beusedas sound effects.
Since theplay dataofYMU762MA3areinterpretedatanytimethrough FIFO,thelength ofthe
data(playing period)isnot limited, sothedevice canflexiblysupportapplication suchasincoming
call melody musicdistribution service.Thehardwaresequencerbuilt inthisdevice allowsplaying
ofthe complexmusicwithoutgiving excessiveloadtotheCPUoftheportabletelephones.
Moreover,theregistersoftheFM synthesizercan beoperated directlyfor real timesound
generation, allowing, forexample, utilization ofvarious sound effectswhen using thegame
softwareinstalledintheportabletelephone.
YMU762 includesaspeakeramplifierwith high rippleremovalratewhosemaximumoutput is
550mW(SPVDD=3.6V).Thedevice isalsoequippedwithconventionalfunction including a
vibratorand a circuit forcontrolling LEDs synchronouswithmusic.Fortheheadphone,it is
providedwithastereophonicoutput terminal.
Forthepurposeofenabling YMU762MA3to demonstrateitsfull capabilities,Yamahapurposeto
use"SMAF:SyntheticmusicMobileApplication Format"asadatadistribution format that is
compatiblewithmultimedia.
Since theSMAFtakesastructurethatsetsimportance on thesynchronization betweensound and
images, variouscontentscan bewrittenintoit including incoming call melody withwordsthatcan
beusedfortraining karaoke,and commercialchannel thatcombinestexts,imagesand sounds,and
others.
ThehardwaresequencerofYMU762MA3 directlyinterpretsand playsblocksrelevant tosynthesis
(playing music and reproducing ADPCMwithFM synthesizer) thatareincludedin datadistributed
inSMAF.
9. Memory
SignalsintheOM6357 enabletwomemories.They useonly onevolt supply voltage,VDD3in
thePCF50601. This systemusesSamsung'smemory, KBB06A300M-T402. It isconsisted of
128MbitsflashNORmemoryand 128MbitsflashNAND memoryand 32MbitsUtRAM.It

has16 bit dataline,HD[0~15]whichisconnectedtoOM6357. Ithas23 bit address lines,
HA[1~23].NCSFLASH_NAND and NCSRAM signalsischipselect.
Writing process,HWR_Nislowand it enableswriting process toflashmemoryand SRAM.
During reading process,HRD_Nislowand it enablesreading process toflashmemoryand
SRAM.EachchipselectsignalsintheOM6357 select memoryamong 2 flashmemoryand
UtRAM.
Reading orwriting procedureisprocessedafterHWR_NorHRD_Nisenabled. Memoriesuse
reset,whichisVDD3 delayfromPCF50601. HA[22]signalenableslowerbyteofSRAMand
HA[22]signalenableshigherbyteofSRAM.

OM6357 isconsisted ofARMcore and DSP core.Ithas8x1Kword on-chip program/dataRAM,
55 Kwordson-chip programROMintheDSP.Ithas4K*32bitsROMand 2K*32bitsRAMinthe
ARMcore.DSP isconsisted ofKBS,JTAG,EMIand UART.ARMcoreisconsisted ofEMI,
PIC(ProgrammableInterruptController),reset/power/clock unit,DMAcontroller,TIC(TestInterface
Controller),eripheralbridge,PPI,SSI(SynchronousSerialInterface),ACC(Asynchronous
communicationscontrollers),timer,ADC,RTC(Real-TimeClock)and keyboardinterface.
KBIO(0:7),address linesofDSP core and HD[0~15].HA[1~23],address linesofARMcore and
HD[0~15], datalinesofARMcore are connectedtomemory.
NCSRAM,NCSFLASH_NAND intheARMcore are connectedtoeachmemory. HWR_Nand
HRD_Ncontrol theprocess ofmemory. ExternalIRQ(InterruptRequest)signalsfromeach units,
suchas,PMUneedthe compatibleprocess.
KBIO[0~7] receivethestatusfromkeyand RXD0/TXD0/IrDA_DOWNareusedforthe
communicationsusing IRDA and datalink cable(DEBUG_DTR/RTS/TXD/RXD/CTS/DSR).
Ithas JTAG controlpins(TDI/TDO/TCK) forARMcore and DSP core.Itreceives13MHz clock
inCKIpinfromexternalTCXO.ADC(Analog toDigitalConvertor) partreceivesthestatusof
temperature, batterytype and battery voltage.

This systemusesthe26MHzTCXO,TCO-9141G,Toyocom.AFCcontrolsignalfromOM6357
controlsfrequencyfrom26MHzX-tal.The clock outputfrequency ofUAA3536HN is13MHz.
