YMU759,isaLSI forportabletelephonethat iscapableofplaying high qualitymusicby utilizing FMsynthesizer
and ADPCMdecorderthatareincludedinthisdevice.Asasynthesis,YMU759 isequipped 16 voiceswith different tones.
Since thedevice iscapableofsimultaneously generating up tosynchronouswiththeplay oftheFMsynthesizer,various
sampled voicescan beusedas sound effects.Since theplay dataofYMU759 areinterpretedatanytimethrough FIFO,
thelength ofthedata(playing period)isnot limited,sothedevice canflexiblysupportapplication suchasincoming call
melody musicdistribution service.Thehardwaresequencerbuilt inthisdevice allowsplaying ofthe complexmusic
withoutgiving excessiveloadtotheCPUoftheportabletelephones.Moreover,theregistersoftheFMsynthesizercan be
operated directlyfor real timesound generation,allowing,forexample,utilization ofvarious sound effectswhen using the
gamesoftwareinstalledintheportabletelephone.YMU759 includesaspeakeramplifierwith high rippleremovalrate
whosemaximumoutput is550mW(SPVDD=3.6V).Thedevice isalsoequippedwithconventionalfunction including a
vibartorand a circuit forcontrolling LEDs synchornouswithmusic.Fortheheadphone,it isprovidedwithastereophonic
output terminal.Forthepurposeofenabling YMU759 to demonstrateitsfull capablities,Yamahapurposeto use
"SMAF:SyntheticmusicMobileApplication Format"asadatadistribution format that iscompatiblewithmultimedia.Since
theSMAFtakesastructurethatsetsimportance on thesynchronization betweensound and images,variouscontentscan
bewrittenintoit including incoming call melody withwordsthatcan beusedfortraning karaoke,and commercial
channel thatcombinestexts,imagesand sounds,and others.ThehardwaresequencerofYMU759AE2 directlyinterprets
and playsblocksrelevant tosysthesis(playing music and reproducing ADPCMwithFMsynthesizer) thatareincludedin
datadistributedinSMAF.
