Safety information for internal rechargeable Lithium-ion battery
The internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery used in this device is able to supply power for a
long period of time. However, even lithium-ion batteries reach a point where they cannot be
recharged. If the battery does not recharge after several attempts, it may be drained (has a low
charge), please contact [email protected] for repair information.
However, if you do not want us to replace the battery, you will need to dispose of used batteries /
device in accordance to the laws and regulations in your area. In addition, you can contact your
local electronics retailers or recycling center for disposal.

User Safety Precautions

Charging the radio
This unit operates on a built-in Lithium-ion battery that can be recharged either using the USB
chargingportorfromaACpoweradaptor(notincluded)witharatedoutputofDC5V,500mA.
NOTE
The radio can only be charged when it is switched off.
Beforeoperatingtheradioforthersttimepleasefullychargethebattery.Thebatterypowericon
will cycle on the display when the battery is charging. Charging time is approx. 3 hours. When the
battery charging is completed, the battery icon will disappear on the display.
Reduced power, distortion, ‘stuttering’ sounds or the battery power indicator in low position are all
signs that the battery needs to be recharged.
NOTE
If the radio is connected to an external power supply (e.g. AC power adaptor (not included) or
USB power cable) when it is powered on, the battery power icon does not show on the display.
Time setting
The time can be set when the radio is in the power on or off mode. Press and hold the Time
settingbuttonfor2secondstoenterthetimesetting.Hourdigitswillash,turnthejogwheelup
/downtochooseyourdesiredtimeandthenpressinthejogwheeltoconrmthehoursetting.
Theminutesdigitswillthenash,followtheabovesettingstepstosettheminutes.

Antenna / Earphone
Insert the earphone into the earphone jack. The cord connecting the earphone to the receiver
acts as an antenna during FM audio reception and should be extended as much as possible to
increase the sensitivity.
A built-in ferrite bar antenna is provided for AM reception, it is only necessary to rotate the radio
for maximum signal strength during AM listening.
NOTE
When listening to the radio with an external power supply (e.g. AC power adaptor (not included)
or USB power cable), it may affect the listening quality while listening to the AM band.
NOTE
When the radio volume is adjusted to 19, there will be a beep sound indicating
that the current volume is too high. Excessive sound pressure from earphones and
headphones can cause hearing loss. To prevent possible hearing damage, do not
listen at high volume levels for long periods.
Volume Control
Use the Volume up / down button to adjust volume level. Display will show the changes when you
operate the volume buttons.
90 Minutes auto shut off feature
For saving battery power, this radio is designed to auto shut off after 90 minutes of operation.
The LCD display will show icon when pressing the Power button to turn on the radio.
For continuous listening if necessary, press and hold the Power button for more than 2 seconds
when the radio is in power off mode. The icon will disappear.
Scan Tuning
Turn on the radio, select the required band by pressing the Band button. Press in the jog wheel
to commence the scan tuning. The radio will scan and stop automatically when a station is found.
Manual Tuning
Turn on the radio, select the required band by pressing the Band button. Desired station may be
selected by turning the jog wheel up / down repeatedly until the desired station is reached.
Presetting stations
The radio has 20 memory presets each for FM and AM radio.
1. With your radio switched on, select required band by pressing Band button.
2. Tune to the required radio station as previously described.
3. To store the station as a preset, press the Page button to select the required preset page
1to5andthenpressandholdtherequiredpresetbutton(1-4)untilyouhearabeep(via
earphone) and the display will show the page and the memory pre-set you selected.

Recalling a preset station
1. With your radio switched on, select required band by pressing Band button.
2. Torecallapresetstation,pressthePagebuttontoselecttherequiredpresetpage(1-5)and
momentarilypresstherequiredPresetbutton(1-4),yourradiowilltunetothestationstoredin
the selected preset memory.
NOTE
Thedisplaywillash"---"ifnostationhasbeenstoredtothatpreset.
Stereo / Mono switching
The radio is designed to receive FM stereo broadcastings. For weak FM station, press Stereo /
Mono button to switch Stereo to Mono. The Stereo icon will disappear on the display.
DBB (Dynamic Bass Boost)
Press the DBB button to activate the Dynamic Bass Boost function to have stronger bass sound,
the display will appear “DBB” symbol. Pressing the DBB button again will cancel the DBB
function.
NOTE
Sangean suggests activating the DBB when using earphones.
Software version / Setting tuning step
The software display cannot be altered and is just for your reference.
1. Press and hold the Step button when your radio is in power off mode, the screen will show the
software version (e.g. Pxx).
2. Continue pressing and holding the Step button and the radio will enter the AM tuning step
setting.
3. The screen will show the AM tuning step (e.g. AM 9 or 10). Turn the jog wheel up / down to
choosebetween9kHzor10kHzandpressinthejogwheeltoconrmyourselection.
4. After your completion of AM tuning step setting, the screen will show FM tuning step (e.g. FM
50,100or200).Turnthejogwheelup/downtochoose“50”,“100”or“200”kHz.Pressinthe
jogwheeltoconrmyoursetting.
NOTE
In Europe and other parts of the world the AM tuning step is 9kHz, in North America the AM
tuning step is 10kHz. FM tuning steps also vary from country to country. Change in the AM
tuning step setting will result in the removal of AM presets stored in the radio.
Key Lock Function
The key lock function is used to prevent unintentional operation of the radio. The Lock switch is
located on the left of the radio. When the Lock switch is set to the Lock position , every button
will be disabled and a key lock icon will appear on the screen. To disable the key lock function,
slide the lock switch down to the unlock position. The lock icon will disappear from the display.

Factory reset
If you wish to completely reset your radio to its initial state this may be performed by the following
procedure. By performing a factory reset, all user entered settings will be erased.
1. Turn off the radio.
2. Press and hold Preset 3 button and the Band button at the same time, the “dEF” will appear
andashonthedisplay.Continueholdingdownthesetwobuttonsuntilalltheiconsappear
on the screen. Now the factory reset is completed.
