1.0 Transport & Handling
1.1 Transport
SCANTOOL RS 100/RSX 100 Pipe Notcher is delivered mounted on a pallet with the
following dimensions:
120 x 80 x 154 cm
The Pipe Notcher is packed in a protective container.
1.2 Handling
The SCANTOOL Pipe Notcher can easily be transported on the pallet.
1.3 Installation
Remove the packing and open the cover lid (A) (as described in part 2.3) of the Pipe
Notcher by loosening the safety screw on top of the lid. Take out the content such as
contact rollers, grinding belts, and dismounted handles.
Place the pipe notcher on a firm and level ground. Secure the machine to the ground by
using the four fittings which are used for securing the pipe notcher to the pallet.
Mount the handles as follows:
Mount the short (200 mm) handle on the feed mechanism (J) (see fig.: 1.1), and the long
(260 mm) handle on the rocking lever (R).
The machine is provided with a no-volt release protection switch and connected according
to the needed voltage. The electrical connection must be performed by an authorized
electrician. It is important to ensure that the motor (and fan/ventilator) has the correct
direction of rotation (see arrow on the cover lid).
Important that this machine is bolted to the floor.
Before the machine is bolted to the floor the machine it is necessary to level out the
machine. It can be necessary to make adjustment with distance pieces underneath
the machine if the floor is not in level. The adjustment is necessary to avoid the
machine for twisting and then pull uneven.
Mount the SCANTOOL RSX 100 Pipe Notcher with suction hose on the exhaust pipe
connected with the exhaust system. If the central exhaust system is not connected with a
cyclone, the exhaust system from the pipe notcher must be connected with a cyclone
which is then connected to the central exhaust system. It is necessary to control that the V-
tool rest (H) has a distance of at least 2 mm from the belt, and that the handle (K) is
tightened. Open the cover lid (A)(as described in 2.3) and turn the drive wheel by hand to
adjust the running alignment of the belt with the handle (B) until it runs straight on the
contact roller (E). At the same time check that the adjustable spark arrester (C) has about
5 mm clearance to the grinding belt. Tighten the spark arrester with the handle (D). Check
that the handle (O) for the rocking lever is tightened.

5
Fig.: 1.1

6
2.0 Directions for use
2.1 Operation
After adjustment and connection the pipe notcher is ready for use.
Before placing a pipe on the V-tool rest (H), the tool rest is moved to a position 5 mm from
the contact roller (E) in order to adjust the feeding stop (I). Use handle (J) to move the tool
rest to a clearance of 5 mm the contact wheel. Tighten the two lock nuts on the feeding
stop.
The handle (J) is the feeder. Perform the grinding by placing a pipe in the V-tool rest (H),
where it is fastened by the pipe holder (F). The V-tool rest is raised/lowered from the
contact roller (E) by turning the twin arm handle (N). Remember to loosen/tighten the star
handle (K), when raising/lowering the V-tool rest. Adjust the V-tool rest to horizontal level
first by loosening the handle (L) and then adjusting the V-tool rest to the wanted position in
connection to the contact roller by turning the handle (M).
Finally adjust the grinding angle by loosening the handle (O) and tilt the pipe notcher to the
wanted angle with the tilting arm (R). Read the angle on the scale (G). Now tighten the
handle (O). You can now start your pipe notcher on the switch (P).
Lead the pipe to be grinded against the contact roller by pulling the feed mechanism (J).
The lifetime of the grinding belt is increased when beginning with a slight pressure.
2.2 Examples of Pipe Joints
The SCANTOOL Pipe Notcher is constructed to process pipes of various dimensions for
joining with another pipe.
Please see examples below. Normally it will be necessary to remove burrs after grinding.
Make sure to wear ear and eye protection during working at the machine.

7
2.3 Security
Follow them to achieve best results and full benefit from your new machine
The very good craftsman respects the
tools with which he works. He knows
they represent years of constantly
improved design. He also knows that
they are dangerous if misused.
This is the theme of a new safe-use
program for stationary power tools. The
safety rules are based on approved
practices in industrial and home shops.
1. Know your power tool.
Read the owner’s manual
carefully. Learn its
applications and
limitations, as well as the
specific potential hazards
peculiar to this tool.
2. Keep guard in
place and in working
order.
3. Ground all tools. If tool is
equipped with three-prong
plug, it should be plugged into
a three-hole electrical
receptacle. If an adapter is
used to accomodate a two-
prong receptacle, the adapter
wire must be attached to a
known ground. Never remove
the third prong.
4. Remove adjusting
keys and wrenches.
Form habit of checking
to see that keys and
adjusting wrenches is
removed before turning
it on.
5. Keep work area clean.
Cluttered areas and
benches invite accidents.
6. Avoid dangerous
environment. Don’t use
power tools in damp or
wet locations or expose
them to rain. Keep your
work area well lighted.
7. Keep children away.
All visitors should be
kept in a safe distance
from work area.
8. Make workshop kidproof with padlocks,
master switches, or by removing starter
keys.

8
9. Don’t force tool. It will do the
job better and be safer at the
rate for which it was designed.
10. Use right tool. Don’t
force tool or attachment
to do a job it was not
designed for.
11. Wear proper apparel.
Wear no loose clothing,
gloves, neckties, rings,
bracelets, or other jewelry
which may get caught in
moving parts. Non-slip
footwear is recommended.
Wear protective hair
covering to contain long hair.
12. Always use safety
glasses. Also use face
or dust mask if cutting
operation is dusty.
Everyday eyeglasses
only have impact
resistant lenses. They
are NOT safety glasses.
13. Secure works. Use
clamps or vise to hold
works, when pratical. It’s
safer than using your
hands and it frees both
hands to operate tool.
14. Don’t overreach. Keep
proper footing and balance at
all times.
16. Disconnect tools before servicing
and when changing accessories such
as grinding wheels, polishing mops,
grinding belts, blades, bits, cutters, etc.
18. Use recommended
accessories. Consult owner’s
manual for recommended
accessories. Use of improper
accessories may cause risk of
injury to persons.
17. Reduce the risk of
unintentional starting.
Make sure switch is in off
position before plugging in.
15. Maintain tools with
care. Keep tools sharp
and clean for best and
safest performance.
Follow instructions for
lubricating and
changing accessories.

9
2.4 Maintenance
It is recommended occasionally to check if the spark arrester and the suction channels
need cleaning. The dust bag has to be emptied after use and drawer (P) if necessary. The
contact wheel must be replaced if it is loose. Replace the grinding belt when needed.
Replacing the grinding belt (fig. 2.2)
Fig.: 2.2
Replace the grinding belt by pulling the handle (S) forward. Loosen the safety screw on the
cover lid (A) before opening the cover lid and remove the worn out belt (T) by pressing the
belt together between the larger and smaller contact roller and at the same time pull it
away from the machine. Put on a new belt. Check that the arrows on the reverse side of
the belt are corresponding to the direction of the rotation (see arrow on top of lid). Re-
tighten the handle (R) and adjust the running alignment of the belt with the handle (B).

10
Fig.: 2.3
Replacing the contact roller (fig. 2.3)
When replacing the contact roller first dismount the grinding belt as described earlier. Tilt
the contact roller forwards and unscrew the
nuts (U) (see fig.: 2.3) –now dismount the distance bushing. Fit the bearing puller (Å) on
the bearing bracket (W) and turn the spindle clockwise until the bearing bracket is loose
enough to take off the shaft (Y). Then remove the small distance bushings (X) . The
contact roller (E) can now be replaced by another diameter roller. Due to wear and tear the
shaft (Y) must be wiped off properly before the new contact roller is mounted. To mount
the new contact roller (E) please proceed in reverse order. Please use the two nuts (U) to
turn on the bearing bracket (W).
