Approperly iinstalled cchain:
Important: We strongly recommend
that the chains be fitted to the tire
prior to actual use to insure proper
fit. Tire sizes may vary because of
age, manufacturer, tread or type.
Please ensure that the following
points are correct when installing
your chains.
1. The chain should drape at least 3
inches over each side of the tire from
the edge of the tread toward the rim.
2. Check to make sure that you
have the correct size chains and
that there is enough clearance
between the chain and bodywork,
suspension and brake parts, etc.
3. The chains should be tightened
as snug as possible. Security Chain
also recommends the use of chain
tighteners (sometimes referred to as
chain spreaders). Smooth portion of
hooks should be against tire.

Park vehicle on firm level ground, and turn off the
engine. Set the parking brake. Lay the chains out flat on
the ground, making sure there are no twists or tangles.
Make sure the cross chain hooks are facing upward.
Drape the chain over the tire, so that one cross chain is
postioned at the point where the tire meets the ground.
Again make sure the cross chain hooks are facing
upward. Hooks that face down (towards the tire) will
cause damage to the tire.
Drive forward a few feet, far enoughso that one or two of
the cross chains pass under the tire.
Reach behind the tire and engage the inside connector
making sure it is as tight as possible. Then connect the
center (between the duals) fastener in the same manner.
See the illustration on the next page for a detailed look
at this connection.

Security Chain Co. recommends that chain tighteners
(sometimes known as chain spreaders) be used to
take up additional slack. To make this simpler, attach
the first hook at the “11 o’clock” position, the next at
the “5 o’clock” postion and so forth. The open side
of the hooks must face away from the tire. No further
adjustment should be necessary.
CAUTION: All winter traction products will wear out with extended use. They can
also break due to misfit, misapplication or misuse. If this should occur, stop immediately
and remove the chain. If these cautions are ignored, Security Chain Co., and it’s distributors
are not responsible for injury or vehicle damage.
Avoid speeds over 30 mph and use on bare pavements. Chain links on cross members will
be damaged and cause cross members to break. Damage could occur to chains, tires and
vehicles.
Avoid spinning tires: start slowly, even in uphill conditions.
Avoid locking brakes: the best braking technique is a pumping action.
If a cross member should break, stop & remove or replace it immediately.
After use, clean and spray with an all-purpose lubricant.
