The aerosonic® travel is a powerful ultrasonic neb-
uliser for prophylactic and therapeutic deep inhala-
tion. This unit has been designed and developed
so that it reflects the latest medical research find-
ings. The aerosonic® travel can be used both at
home and whilst travelling thanks to its flexible
power supply options – mains supply, 12 V battery
or rechargeable battery pack. The unit combines
effective aerosol therapy with the present-day need
for inhalation that is patient-friendly. It offers the
following benefits:

The aerosonic® travel is an ultrasonic nebuliser for
the treatment of respiratory diseases such as asth-
ma, COPD and bronchitis.
Please read through the Instructions for Use care-
fully to ensure that you use the unit correctly.

If used with care your nebuliser will provide you
with many years of reliable service.
This nebuliser requires either distilled water or tap
water (as transfer water) and the medicine that has
been prescribed by your physician to generate a
concentrated and highly-effective aerosol.
The latest ultrasonic technology allows inhalation
to be carried out discretely as the unit is nearly
noiseless in operation. A simple 3-setting adjust-
ment of aerosol flow, depending on your breathing
pattern, ensures that you can follow the therapy
prescribed by your physician or respiratory therapist.
The unit can be run off the mains supply, the op-
tional rechargeable battery pack, or from a vehicle
cigar lighter.
We recommend that you read the Instructions for
Use carefully so that you familiarise yourself with
the aerosonic® travel ultrasonic nebuliser and
can operate it correctly. The unit is supplied with
the following basic components:

Use of the aerosonic® travel
Please observe the general safety precautions given
below when using the aerosonic® travel inhalation
unit.
This unit may only be used for the purpose describ-
ed in these Instructions for Use and only for the
medicines that have been prescribed by your phy-
sician. The user assumes liability for the safe func-
tion of the unit if it is used for a purpose other
than that described in these Instructions for Use.
Avoidance of electric shock
• The unit must not be used in rooms that have a
high humidity (e.g., bathrooms).
• Do not touch the unit or the power cable if your
hands are wet.
• Never immerse the mains unit, nebuliser or
rechargeable battery pack in water.
• Do not use the unit or accessories when taking a
bath.
• If the unit falls into water then do not touch it
under any circumstances. Pull the plug out of the
wall socket immediately.
• Do not use the unit if any part of it is not func-
tioning correctly (including the power cable or
plug), if it has been immersed in water or if it
has fallen onto the floor. Send the unit in for
checking and possible repair.
• The unit should not be used in the presence of
combustible gas, oxygen or an aerosol spray pro-
ducts.
• Always keep the ventilation slots open. Do not
block the openings when holding the unit in the
hands.
• Never operate the unit if the water reservoir or
medicine cup is empty.
• Turn the unit off if there are any unusual occur-
rences during its use. Send the unit back for test-
ing and repair if necessary.

• Change the water in the water reservoir after
every use.
• Do not use the unit whilst driving a vehicle or
any similar activity.
• Turn the unit off immediately if you experience
any discomfort or there are any unusual occur-
rences during its use.
Important information for storage
• Do not store the unit or the rechargeable bat-
tery pack in direct sunlight, at high temperatures
or under conditions of high humidity.
• Store the unit and its accessories out of the reach
of small children.
• Always pull the plug out of the unit when it is
not being used.
• The unit should not be left unattended if it is con
nected to an electrical power supply.
• Do not tilt or shake the unit during operation.
• Do not remove the nebuliser cover during operation.
• Always disconnect the unit from its power supply
before cleaning or filling it and after each instance
of use.
• Do not use any additional units that are not recom-
mended by the manufacturer.
• The unit must not be used continuously for more
than 20 minutes.
• Allow the unit to cool down for 30 minutes before
re-starting it.
Important information for use
• If children or handicapped persons are using the
unit then it is recommended that they be supervised.
• Ensure that the aerosol mist does not come into
contact with your eyes.

Filling of the water reservoir
Starting the unit
• Do not touch the unit or power cable with wet hands.
• Do not use any auxiliary units that are not recommended by the manufacturer.

4. Fill the water reservoir with
distilled water* or tap water
(as transfer water).
*Distilled water is preferable.

to the indicated level (in the
middle of the markings on the
water reservoir) to ensure
transmission of the acoustic
waves from the oscillator via
the water in the water reser-
voir to the medicine cup.
Caution
Fill the water reservoir with
water only. Other fluids could
damage or even destroy the
ceramic oscillator. Ensure that
the correct quantity of water
is used.

1. Place the medicine cup on
the water reservoir. Ensure
that you use only one medi-
cine cup.

Note
• The maximum volume of medicine that can be used with this unit is 6 ml. This volume must not be
exceeded.
• Use only use those medicines that your physician has instructed you to use, and in accordance with his
instructions.
• Do not use residues of medicines from earlier inhalations.
• Never operate the unit if the water reservoir or medicine cup is empty.

Use of the mouthpiece or mask
Place the mouthpiece on the
dome of the nebuliser cover.
For inhalation, for instance
whilst lying down, use the
extension tube together with
the mask.
Place the adapter for the mask
on the dome of the nebuliser
cover and then plug the noz-
zle of the mask into the adap-
ter.

Connection of the power supply unit

1. First plug the 12 V plug of
the power supply unit into the
socket on the underside of the
nebuliser (Fig. 1).
2. Then plug the power supply
unit into a mains socket.
Caution
The unit should not be left unattended if it is connected to an electrical power supply.

• The ultrasonic nebuliser has
3 aerosol flow settings:
Maximum, medium and mini-
mum.
• Press the aerosol flow but
ton to set the flow rate given
by your physician or physio-
therapist.
• The aerosol flow display indi-
cates the setting through the
lamp. (Fig. 2).

• Ensure that the water reser
voir and medicine cup
are correctly filled, that the
mouthpiece (mask) is cor-
rectly positioned and that
the unit is standing on a flat
dry surface.
• Do not cover the ventilation
slots when holding the unit
in the hands.
• Press the on/off switch (Fig.
1). The unit will start auto
matically at the highest aero-
sol flow rate.
• The aerosol flow display indi-
cates the highest setting.

1. Place your lips around the
mouthpiece or put on the mask.
2. Breathe in calmly at a uniform
rate. The first 3 or 4 inhalations
should not be deep ones to
allow time to get used to the
aerosol mist.
3. After breathing in, hold your
breath for approximately 2 sec-
onds, to allow proper deposition
of the medicine in the airways.
4. After 4 or 5 inhalations
breathe in again normally sev-
eral times.
Perform the inhalation therapy
as instructed by your physician.
Note
The nebuliser will start to oper-
ate at a lower output and the
output will increase after a few
minutes.
• Ensure that the aerosol mist
is kept well away from your
eyes.
• Turn off the unit immediately
if you experience discomfort
or if there are any unusual
occurrences.
• The unit must not be tilted
or shaken during operation.
• Never open the nebuliser cov-
er during operation.

LOW BATTERY

1. Once treatment is complete
press the ON/OFF button (Power)
to turn the unit off. Otherwise
the unit will turn itself off au-
tomatically after 10 minutes of
continuous nebulisation.
2. Pull the plug out of the mains
socket, then remove the 12 V
plug of the power supply unit
from the socket on the under-
side of the nebuliser.
3. Allow the unit to cool down
fully, for a minimum of 20 – 30
minutes.
End of treatment
Note
• The unit must never be operated for more than 20 minutes without interruption.
• After switching off, allow 30 minutes before switching the unit on again.

6. Empty the water reservoir aft-
er each inhalation or 1x daily
after the last inhalation proce-
dure. If you leave the water in
the water reservoir then place
a new medicine cup on the
water reservoir.
Transport of the aerosonic® travel
If the cleaned and dried nebuliser cover is replaced on the unit after use then it can be transported with
water in the water reservoir and the empty medicine cup on top. No liquid will leak out of the unit.

Note
• It is recommended that the
unit and accessories be clean-
ed and disinfected after every
inhalation procedure and aft-
er it has been stored for a
longer period of time to de-
stroy any micro-organisms
present.
• If patients have chronic infec-
tions then it is recommended
that only one patient use the
unit. If the hygiene recom-
mendations of the manufact
urer are not followed then
the user may develop a life-
threatening infection.
• Before commencing cleaning,
disconnect the unit from the
mains power supply and pull
the plug out.
• Never immerse the unit,
power supply unit, recharge-
able battery pack or vehicle
power cable in water as it
could damage them irrevers-
ibly.
• Micro-organisms require mois-
ture to grow. It is therefore
important that the unit and
its individual parts be carefully
dried after cleaning and dis-
infection. The individual parts
may be left to dry in the air
or dried with a lint-free cloth.
• The individual parts should be
laid out on a terry towel and
left uncovered.
• The parts may be dried more
quickly using warm air from a
hairdryer (using the lowest
setting so that the air does
not become too warm).

In the home
All parts that come into contact with the patient or
the aerosol (the mouthpiece, mask, mask adapter,
medicine cup, nebuliser cover, air filter and its
cover, tubing) must be thoroughly cleaned using
hot water or in a dishwasher and should be disin-
fected at regular intervals using a disinfectant that
is suitable for plastics (such as Gigasept, Kohrsolin
or Sekusept). They should be rinsed in water where
necessary. It is very important that they be careful-
ly dried afterwards.
The movable parts should be replaced with new
ones at regular intervals, depending on the extent
of their use (see spare parts).
The transfer water in the water reservoir must be
removed at least 1x a day and the container rinsed
out with hot water and disinfected at regular inter-
vals. It must then be dried.
Clean the base unit using a soft cloth that has been
wetted with water and a cleaning agent that is not
corrosive.
In medical practices
All movable parts that come into contact with the
patient or the aerosol must be replaced before the
unit is used by a different patient.
The Travelset 1 or 2 (see page 22) should be used
for this.
The transfer water in the water reservoir must be
removed and the container rinsed out with hot
water and disinfected at regular intervals. It must
then be dried.
For users in Germany it is recommended that one
of the disinfectants in the current list issued by the
DGHM* be used. Disinfectants that are based on
halogen-releasing compounds, strong organic acids
or oxygen-releasing compounds are not recom-
mended because they may damage the container
material.
Caution
• Solvents such as acetone or benzene must not be
used.
• Water or disinfectant solution must not be allow-
ed to penetrate the electrical connection (socket
on the base unit).

The unit does not respond when the ON/OFF
button is pressed.
No aerosol, or too little aerosol, is generated.
The fan is not working correctly.
If the unit does not operate as it should then please check the following:
Investigation of faults
Condition Corrective action
Check that the power supply unit is correctly plug-
ged into the nebuliser and that the power cable
is correctly plugged into the nebuliser socket.
Check that the water reservoir has been filled to
the level indicated.
If you are using a rechargeable battery pack for
power supply then check that it is fully charged.
Also check that the battery pack has been cor-
rectly connected to the unit.
Check whether the medicine cup is damaged or if
a number of cups are inserted at the same time.
Check whether the ceramic oscillator has a build-
up of lime on it or is damaged.
Check that the fan wheel is sitting correctly and
securely on the motor shaft.
