About this manual
This instruction is an integral part of the product and contains im-
portant information for a safe and proper assembly, commission-
ing, operation, maintenance and helps for an easier trouble shoot-
ing.
Before using the product, read and note the instruction, especially
the chapter "Basic safety notes".
Warnings
The following signal words and symbols are used to highlight dan-
gers.

Basic safety notes
Intended use
The module is designed exclusively to transmit linear movements
or forces by means of a directly driven drive module.
The module is intended for installation in a machine/system. The
requirements of the applicable guidelines must be observed and
complied with.
The module may be used only in the context of its defined applica-
tion parameters (6, Page 13).
To use this unit as intended, it is also essential to observe the
technical data and installation and operation notes in this manual
and to comply with the maintenance intervals.
Reasonably foreseeable misuse
•Use as passenger or animal transportation
•The module is not suitable for direct mains operation
•Not suitable for operation under water
Environmental and operating conditions
Use the module only within its defined application parameters
(technical data and catalog).
Make sure that the module, its mounting elements and the flange-
mounted parts are a sufficient size for the application.
Make sure that the environment is clean and the ambient temper-
ature corresponds to the specifications given in the catalog. Ob-
serve the maintenance and lubrication intervals.
Make sure that the environment is free from splash water and va-
pors as well as from abrasion or processing dust.
Ensure that the desired motion or force cycle is within the mod-
ule's specification.
The module must be operated with a drive control unit. We recom-
mend using the control units offered by SCHUNK. Please consult
SCHUNK if you intend to use control units of other manufacturers.
Protect the module from strong sunlight or heat.
Protect the module from chips or dust, abrasive media, vibration,
shock and moisture in order to prevent contamination.

Product safety
The module could become hazardous if:
•The module is not used in accordance with its intended pur-
pose.
•The module is not installed or maintained properly.
•The safety and assembly instructions and other applicable doc-
uments are not observed.
Avoid any manner of working that may interfere with the function
and operational safety of the module.
Wear protective equipment.
NOTE
For further details, see the relevant chapters.
Protective equipment
Provide protective equipment per EC Machinery Directive.
Constructional changes, attachments, or modifications
Additional drill holes, threads, or attachments that are not offered
as accessories by SCHUNK may be attached only with permission
of SCHUNK.
Personnel qualification
The assembly, initial commissioning, maintenance, and repair of
the module may be performed only by trained specialist person-
nel. Every person called upon by the operator to work on the
module must have read and understood the complete assembly
and operating manual, especially the chapter "Basic safety notes"
(2, Page 7). This applies particularly to personnel only used oc-
casionally, such as maintenance personnel.

Using personal protective equipment
When using this product, observe the relevant industrial safety
regulations and use the personal protective equipment (PPE) re-
quired!
•Use protective gloves, safety shoes and safety goggles.
•Observe safe distances.
•Minimal safety requirements for the use of equipment.
Notes on particular risks
Generally valid:
•Remove the energy supplies before installation, modification,
maintenance, or adjustment work.
•Make sure, that no residual energy remains in the system.
•Do not move parts by hand when the energy supply is con-
nected.
•Do not reach into the open mechanism or the movement area
of the module.
•Perform maintenance, modifications, and additions outside the
danger zone.
•For all work, secure the unit against accidental operation.
•Take a precautionary approach by maintenance and disassem-
bly.
•Only specially trained staff should disassemble the module.
•In the event of a power failure, uncontrolled movements may
occur.
•Expect faulty drive movements especially if the installed moni-
toring devices are not yet effective.

WARNING
Risk of injury from objects falling and being ejected
•The danger zone must be surrounded by a safety fence during
operation.
WARNING
Risk of injury due to hot surfaces. The module can become very
hot when in operation.
Touching the housing could result in burning to the hands.
•Wait until the surface of the module and its attachments have
cooled down.
DANGER
Risk of injury due to magnetic fields
The integrated high performance permanent magnets can
represent a risk to persons with an active or passive implant.
•Persons with heart pace-makers, active or passive implants
are prohibited from entering the area of the magnetic field.

Warranty
The warranty is valid for 24 months from the delivery date to the
production facility under the following conditions:
•Intended use in 1-shift operation
•Observe the mandatory maintenance and lubrication intervals
•Observe the environmental and operating conditions
Parts touching the work piece and wear parts are not part of the
warranty.
Scope of delivery
The scope of delivery includes:
•Linear motor drive LDL in the ordered model.
•Accessory pack

Transport and storage
Transportation
The modules are precision drives. The packaging must protect the
modules from all external effects (such as mechanical shocks and
humidity).
Storage
Store the product in a clean, dry environment.
Ambient temperature: 15 – 40°C.
No condensation permitted!

Touching live parts can be deadly.
•Switch off the power supply before any assembly, adjustment
or maintenance work and secure against being switched back
on again.
•Only qualified electricians my carry out electrical installation
work.
•Disconnect the converters from the power supply.
•The intermediate circuit capacitors must be discharged.
•Note the correct sequence for connecting cables (first the
grounding cable, then conductors).
DANGER
Danger to life due to strong magnetic fields even in a shut-down
state.
The secondary parts integrated in the module are high-
performance permanent magnets. Medical devices such as pa-
cemakers or hearing aids may be destroyed or cause malfunc-
tions.
Keep a sufficient minimum distance to the secondary part if you
have a pacemaker or are wearing hearing aids or the like.

Mechanical connection
The values relate to the entire bolting surface.
Requirements for levelness of the bolting surface (Dimensions in mm)

The unit can be fastened at the lower joining surfaces.
The module has a mounting surface for the attachments provided
(e.g. grippers). The module must be supported along its entire
length, and all the mounting screws must be used.
