Purpose
This document provides the steps required to replace the X-axis idler pulley of the Sci-Print
VX2/VXL or RETROS instruments.
Intended Use
When the X-axis idler pulley needs to be replaced.
Required Material and Equipment
4mm allen wrench
3mm allen wrench
Intended Audience
Superuser
Procedure
1. Power off the instrument.
2. Remove the hood of the unit, and set aside.
3. Locate the X-axis idler pulley, shown in Figure 1 below.

4. Use a finger to push against the belt, and take a mental note of the tension for later.

5. Loosen the two bracket screws using a 4mm allen wrench to allow the tensioner to
move, as shown in Figure 2 below.

6. Loosen the X-axis tension screw by using a 3mm allen wrench to relieve belt tension on
pulley, shown in FIgure 3 below. Do not remove the screw, only loosen it.

7. The belt should be loose enough to pull off the pulley and let it loosely hang as shown in
Figure 4 below.

8. Remove the bearing using the provided 1/8 allen wrench, as shown in Figure 5 below.

9. Replace with the provided new pulley.
10. Slip the belt back on the new pulley.

11. Tighten the X-axis tension screw to the tension noted in step 3. If available, use the
sonic tensioner to check the tension.
12. Tighten the bracket screws so the tension bracket does not move.
13. Replace the hood of the unit.
14. Power the unit ON. Wait for the beep.
15. Open the software, and HOME ALL.
16. Test operation as normal. Rack Positions need to be re-taught, because removing the
belt changes positioning.
