1. SAFETY
BEFORE USE:
A) Checkyourphysicaltnessbeforeusingaladder.
DO NOTuseaftertakingalcoholoranymedicinelikelytocausedrowsiness.Readthelabelofanydrugormedicines.
B) Whentransportingaladderontheroofrackofyourvehicleorinalorry,makesurethatitissecuredrmlytoavoidcausingany
damage.
C) Beforeusingtheladderforthersttime,checkittoensurethatallitspartsareingoodconditionandoperatecorrectly.
D) Beforeuse,checktheladdervisuallytoensurethatithasnotbeendamagedandcanbeusedincompletesafety.
E) Regularchecksareessentialforallusers.
F) Checkthattheladderissuitableforthejobtobedone.
G) DO NOTuseadamagedladder.
H) Cleantheladderofanyforeignsubstancessuchaswetpaint,mud,oilorsnow.
I) Beforeusingtheladderforprofessionalpurposes,risksmustbeassesseddependingonthelegislationofthecountryinuse.
POSITIONING AND ERECTING LADDERS:
A) Laddersmustbeputupintherightposition,i.e.atthecorrectangle(inclinedatabout1in4),withthestepsorrungsparallelfora
leaningladder,orcompletelyopeninthecaseofatrestleladder.
B) Anyladderequippedwithlockingsystems;thelocksmustbeinthefullylockedposition.
C) Laddersmustbeplacedonatregularandrmsurface.
D) Leaningladdersmustalwaysbeplacedonaatsolidsurfaceandbestabilizedbeforeuse,forexamplebyusingtiesoranyother
suitabledeviceforensuringtheirstability.
E) Laddersmustneverberepositionedfromapointhigh-up.
F) Wheninstallingaladdertakeaccountofanypossiblerisksofcollision,e.g.collisionswithpedestrians,vehiclesordoors.
Ifpossible,secureanydoors(otherthanemergencyexits)andwindowsonthesite.
G) Identifyallelectricalrisksonthework-site,e.g.overheadlinesoranyotherbareelectricalequipment.
H) Laddersmustrestrmlyontheirtreadsandnotbeonrungsorsteps.
I) Laddersmustnotbeplacedonanyslipperysurfaces(e.g.ice,shinysurfacesorsurfacesclearlycoveredwithforeignsubstances)
unlessothereffectivemeanshavebeentakentoavoidtheladderslipping.Otherwise,makesurethatalldirtyorcontaminatedsupport
surfaceshavebeenadequatelycleaned.
USING THE LADDER:
A) DO NOTexceedthemaximumloadallowedforthetypeofladder.
B) DO NOT trytoreachapointtoofarawayfromyou;yourwaistshouldalwaysbebetweentheladder’stwouprightsandyourfeeton
thesamesteporrungwhilstworking.
C) DO NOTclimbdownahighleaningladderwithoutusinganextrasafetysystem(forexample,atieoruseofasuitablestabilizing
device).
D) DO NOTuseatrestleladdertogetuptoahigherlevel.
E) DO NOTstandonthetopthreestepsorrungsofaleaningladder.
F) DO NOTstandonthetoptwostepsorrungsofatrestleladderwherethereisnoplatformorsupportathandorkneeheight.
G) DO NOTstandonthetopfourstepsorrungsofatrestleladderwithanextensionladderontop.
H) Laddersshouldonlybeusedforminor,short-durationjobs.
I) Usenon-conductiveladderswhenworkingonjobswhereelectricalpowerispresent.
J) DO NOTuseladdersoutsideinunfavorableweatherconditions(highwindsforexample).
K) Takeallnecessaryprecautionstopreventchildrenfromplayingonladders.
L) Ifpossible,secureanydoorsotherthanemergencyexitsandwindowsonthesite.
M) Climbupandcomedownaladderfacingit.
N) Holdtheladderrmlywhenclimbingorcomingdown.
O) DO NOTuseladdersasbridges.
P) Alwayswearsuitableshoesforclimbingladders.
Q) Avoidallexcessivelateralconstraintssuchaswhenusingadrillinbrickandconcrete.
R) DO NOTstaytoolonguptheladderwithoutmakingregularstops(fatiguerisks).
S) Togouptohigherlevels,laddersshouldbeextendedatleastonemetreabovetheheighttobereached.
T) Light-weighteasy-to-handleequipmentshouldbeusedwhenonaladder.
U) Avoidworksthatcreatesideloadsontrestleladders,e.g.fordrillinghardmaterials(brick,concrete,etc.).
