Application
Input
Withtheinput astatuscanbe monitored, theinput canbe configured bycontroller or
configurationtoolsasfollows:
lStatus input or Alarm input
lLead monitoring for open line or open line and short circuit
lWhen inputting status, according todifferent statusof contact, can be set asfallows:
–Normalmode: normallyopenNO input
–Inverted mode: normallyclosed NO input

Status inputs and alarm inputs
Alarm inputstrigger analarmassoonastheinput isactivated. Status inputstrigger a
monitoringstatuschange assoonastheyare activated.
Linemonitoringandcircuitry
Theinputlinesare monitored for openlineor openlineand short circuit. Tomakethese
possible, resistorsmust be properlyconnected totheendoflinesoftheinput (Fig. 1).When
anopenlineor ashort circuit occursononeoftheinput lines, afault message istransmitted
tothecontrolpanel. Theinput must be potential-free.

-Beused for controlling(e.g. operatingahorn/strobe).
-Themoduleswitchestheexternallysupplied 24 VDC voltage inactivestatusonthe
output.
-Ininactivestatustheoutputlineismonitored for openlineandshort circuit(Fig. 3).
-Thejumper ontheinput/output modulemust be plugged ontoJ2/J4(Fig. 2)

Configuration
Thefollowingconfigurationsare possiblethroughcontrolleror configurationtool:
lAfter activating the output remains:
Steadyoutput
Pulseoutput: Howlong the contact remainsactivecan be configured bycontroller or
configuration tools(pulseduration).
lFailsafebehavior when the FD18-BUSdetector line iscurrent-free or indegraded mode.
The error behavior definesthe position of the output incaseof an error:
Off: Output remainsinthe same position asbefore the error
Activation:Output isactivated incaseof an error
Deactivation: Outputisdeactivated incaseof an error
Thecontroller doesnot monitor externalequipmentstatus(activated/inactivated).
Invertedoperation (outputlinesnotmonitored)
-Beused for controlling(e.g. closingadoor).
-Themoduleswitchestheexternallysupplied 24 VDC voltage inactivestatusonthe
output.
-Innormalstatusthere isnomonitoringfor openlineandshort circuit.
-Thejumper ontheinput/output modulemust be plugged ontoJ2/J4(Fig. 4).

Ininactivestatusthe24 VDC are permanentlyapplied totheoutput andmaykeep adoor
open, for example.Whentheoutputisswitched toactive,theoutput goesinto"open"status
(= no24 VDC voltage)andthedoor isclosed.
Comment:
Inthisexample, thedoor wouldalsocloseifthe 24 VDC supplywere tofail, e.g. duetoaline
problem(short circuit, openline).

Structure
Themoduleconsistsofthemodulecarrier, theprinted circuit board andthecover. Theprinted
circuit board includestheLEDs. TheLEDsindicatethestatesoftheinputs/outputs. Thecover
oftheprinted circuit board istransparent, sothat thestateoftheLEDsisvisibleevenwhen
thehousingisclosed.
Toprotect themodulesfromenvironmentalinfluences,housingFDCH221 isoptional.

Preparation
1. Determinetype ofinstallation:
–Installationoutside aswitchingcabinet or acontrolunit:
useFDCH221 housing(Fig. 10).
–Installationdirectlyinaswitchingcabinet or acontrolunit:
mount themoduleonanevensurface(Fig. 9).
Damagebywater!
InhumidorwetenvironmentsalwaysuseFDCH221housing!
MountingFDCH221 housing
1. Openthehousing.
2. Determinethepositionofthecableentriesinthehousing
andbreakthemout.
3. Mount thehousingonanevensurfacewithtwoscrews
(Fig. 10). Distancebetweenholes:182.0 1.0mm.
4. Insert thecablesandfixthecablesinthehousing.
5. Insert thesealandfixthelidadditionallywithfourscrews
(Fig. 11) (onlythiswayisIP65 protectionguaranteed).
The housinglidistransparent.Considerasuitable
installationpositiontomakesurethattheLEDsofthe
modulearevisibleatanytime.
Procedurewithinstallationinthehousing
CAUTION
Overheatingofthein/outputmodule!
1. Openthehousing.
2. Placethemoduleinthehousingandfixit withtwo
screws(Fig. 9/10).
3. Closethehousing.
Procedurewithinstallationonanevensurface
1. Placethemoduleonanevensurface.
2. Fixthemodulewithtwoscrews(M4 X15) (Fig. 9).
Distancebetweenholes: 63.5 1.0mm
Electricconnection
1. ReferringtoFig. 1,3,5,7,12 connect thecablestothe
correspondingterminals.
2. Connect resistor/ diode .Theresistorsmust be
connected at theendofthemonitored line.
3. Fixthecablestothemodule
CAUTION
Mind thepositiveandnegativepolarwhenconnectingthe
diodes.
