2 Introduction

Safety Instructions
Your electric blanket should always be used as an underblanket. Here’s some important information on how to use
it safely.
Fitting your blanket
•Before you fit it, give your electric blanket a check to make sure it isn’t damaged.
•Don’t tuck it under your mattress.
•Regular checks to be made if used with a mattress protector or topper to make sure that the electric blanket
hasn’t rucked or folded in use.
•Don’t fit it on a sofa bed, inflatable bed or water bed.
•If you’re using it on an adjustable bed, make sure the blanket or mains lead can’t get trapped in hinges or any
other mechanisms.
•Make sure the mains lead isn’t overstretched.
Using your blanket
•Your electric blanket is designed to preheat indoor beds. Don’t use it for anything else.
•Don’t use it outdoors, in hospitals or hotels.
•Babies or toddlers shouldn’t use this blanket, so don’t use it to heat their beds.
•Children under 8 should only use it if they’re supervised by an adult.
•Children aged 8 years and above or people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack
of experience and knowledge can use this electric blanket if they’re supervised or have been given clear
instructions on how to use it safely. Children should always be supervised until they’re mature enough to
understand how to operate it safely and can be trusted never to play with it.
•It shouldn’t be used by people who are insensitive to heat or by vulnerable people who can’t react to
overheating.
•Don’t turn the blanket on if it’s folded up or creased.
•It’s best not to use a hot water bottle while using the electric blanket.
•Don’t let the controls overheat and never tuck them underneath your pillow or blankets.
•Only ever use the mains lead and the controls provided.
Looking after your blanket
•Don’t insert pins or sharp objects.
•Don’t crease it, as it can damage the wiring.
•Make sure it’s completely dry before turning it on. Never use it if it’s wet.
•Allow it to cool down before you fold and store it.
•Rapid increases in temperature can be dangerous, so the overheat system should step in and cut o the
power. If this happens, you won’t be able to use the blanket.
Disposing of your blanket
Once the blanket has reached the end of its usable life, cut through the mains lead to make sure no one else can use
it. Then take it to your local, council-run waste site. Please don’t dispose of it in your normal domestic waste bin.
Safety Instructions 3
PLEASE KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS SOMEWHERE
SAFE, SO YOU CAN REFER BACK TO THEM.

Fitting your Electric Blanket
1. Open the electric blanket out fully and lay it flat on the mattress, allowing space for pillows.
2. Position the blanket so the mains lead is at the pillow end of the bed.
3. The blanket isn’t as long as your mattress. So pull it down, so the area underneath your pillows isn’t
covered. See pic. A.
4. Pass the elasticated straps underneath your mattress to secure the blanket in place. See pic. A.
5. When the blanket is fitted snugly, connect the mains lead to the electric blanket’s socket. See pic. B.
Make sure the mains lead isn’t too stretched by using an extension lead if you need one. To detach the
mains lead, just lift the flap on the blanket’s socket and pull gently.
6. Cover the electric blanket with a fitted or flat sheet and you’re ready to go!
It’s a good idea to check your electric blanket regularly to make sure it’s still fitting cosily and has no
creases. Check the mains lead is still tight in the socket every now and again too.

4 Fitting your Electric Blanket

Using your Electric Blanket
Before you turn your electric blanket on, check these 4 things:
1. The mains lead is uncovered and firmly connected to the electric blanket’s socket.
2. Your electric blanket is fully unfolded.
3. Your electric blanket fits comfortably over your mattress, so creases can’t easily appear.
4. Your electric blanket is covered with a fitted or flat sheet.
All good? Great. Now plug it into a mains socket and preheat your bed. To get it to just the right
temperature, the hand control has 3 warmth settings. See pic. 1.
Move the switch to the one you want, cover with your sheet and blanket/duvet and the electric blanket will
start warming your bed.
When the temperature is just right, you’ll need to turn the hand control to 0 to turn it o.
If you’re planning to use the blanket all night long, keep it on 1 = Low Heat.
1 = Low Heat0 = O 2 = Medium Heat 3 = High Heat

6 Cleaning and Care
Cleaning and Care
Here are some hints that will help you get the best out of your electric blanket for years to come.
Storing your electric blanket
The safest place to leave your blanket during the warmer months is on your bed. But if you’d rather store
it somewhere, allow it to cool down and then roll or loosely fold it up. Don’t fold it too tightly or put heavy
things on top of it, as it could damage the wiring.
Washing your electric blanket
Your Slumberdown electric blanket can be washed by hand or in the washing machine on a 40° wool cycle.
But never dry clean your blanket. Before you wash it, disconnect the mains lead from the blanket’s socket
and make sure the controls don’t get wet.
To hand wash
Fill a large bowl or a bath with warm water and mild washing powder or detergent. Leave the blanket to soak
for 5 or so minutes, then gently wash. Rinse in clean water until the water runs clear.
To machine wash
Pop your blanket in the washing machine on a 40° wool cycle. Once your blanket is clean, don’t wring it
out. Gently, but firmly, squeeze as much excess water out as you can.
To wash the removable quilted layer
The quilted layer is designed to be removable for regular washing. The cover can be washed more frequently
to stop dirt building up on the blanket. Regularly washing the outer layer will help your blanket stay in great
shape for longer. Simply unzip the removable layer and follow the hand wash instructions above or wash in a
machine at:
You can also wash the base of the blanket if you want.
Drying your electric blanket
The best place to dry your electric blanket is on the washing line. Gently reshape it while it’s damp, then
hang it up, being careful not to peg any wired areas. Make sure it’s completely dry before you use it.
Wear and tear checks
•Make sure the plug, mains lead, electric blanket socket and controller remain undamaged, with no bare
wire showing.
•Make sure the wiring of your electric blanket isn’t sticking out of the fabric anywhere.
•Straighten out any wires that have looped or twisted back. Hold your electric blanket up to a window
or light to check.
•If there are signs of wear or damage, if the blanket has been misused or doesn’t work, return it to the
retailer before you switch it on again.
•If the mains lead is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified electrician.
