1.1 Validity

The tasks described in this document must only be performed by qualified persons. Qualified
persons must have the following skills:
• Within the SMA factory warranty, participation in an SMA training course is mandatory for
carrying out the activities described in this document. The type of training and the media used
may vary from country to country. The type and method of training can therefore vary from
country to country, but must have been completed before the service is provided.
• Outside the SMA factory warranty, SMA Solar Technology AG recommends participation in
an SMA training course to perform the activities described in this document. This ensures the
quality requirements for proper replacement of assemblies. The type of training and the media

2.1 Intended Use

documentation and with the locally applicable laws, regulations, standards and directives. Any
other application may cause personal injury or property damage.

warranty claims and in most cases terminate the operating license. SMA Solar Technology AG

2.2 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
This section contains safety information that must be observed at all times when working.
The product has been designed and tested in accordance with international safety requirements. As
with all electrical or electronical devices, there are residual risks despite careful construction. To
prevent personal injury and property damage and to ensure long-term operation of the product,
read this section carefully and observe all safety information at all times.
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when live components or cables of the
inverter are touched
High voltages are present in the conductive components or cables of the inverter. Touching live
parts and cables of the inverter results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• Wear suitable personal protective equipment for all work on the product.
• Do not touch non-insulated parts or cables.
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when live components or DC cables are
touched
When exposed to light, the PV modules generate high DC voltage which is present in the DC
cables. Touching live DC cables results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Do not touch non-insulated parts or cables.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• Do not disconnect the DC connectors under load.
• Wear suitable personal protective equipment for all work on the product.
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when touching live system components in
case of a ground fault
If a ground fault occurs, parts of the system may still be live. Touching live parts and cables
results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• Touch the cables of the PV array on the insulation only.
• Do not connect PV strings with ground faults to the inverter.
• Once disconnected from voltage sources, wait five minutes before touching any parts of the
PV system or the inverter.

WARNING
Danger to life due to fire or explosion
In rare cases, an explosive gas mixture can be generated inside the inverter under fault
conditions. In this state, switching operations can cause a fire inside the inverter or explosion.
Death or lethal injuries due to hot or flying debris can result.
• Ensure that unauthorized persons have no access to the inverter.
• Do not remove the Electronic Solar Switch (ESS) from the inverter.
• Disconnect the PV array from the inverter via an external disconnection device. If there is no
disconnecting device present, wait until no more DC power is applied to the inverter.
• Disconnect the AC circuit breaker, or keep it disconnected in case it has already tripped,
and secure it against reconnection.
• Only perform work on the inverter (e.g., troubleshooting, repair work) when wearing
personal protective equipment for handling of hazardous substances (e.g., safety gloves,
eye and face protection, respiratory protection).
WARNING
Risk of injury due to toxic substances, gases and dusts.
In rare cases, damages to electronic components can result in the formation of toxic substances,
gases or dusts inside the inverter. Touching toxic substances and inhaling toxic gases and dusts
can cause skin irritation, burns or poisoning, trouble breathing and nausea.
• Only perform work on the inverter (e.g., troubleshooting, repair work) when wearing
personal protective equipment for handling of hazardous substances (e.g., safety gloves,
eye and face protection, respiratory protection).
• Ensure that unauthorized persons have no access to the inverter.
WARNING
Danger to life due to electric shock from destruction of the measuring device
due to overvoltage
Overvoltage can damage a measuring device and result in voltage being present in the
enclosure of the measuring device. Touching the live enclosure of the measuring device results in
death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Only use measuring devices with a DC input voltage range of 800 V or higher.
CAUTION
Risk of burns due to hot enclosure parts
Some parts of the enclosure can get hot during operation. Touching hot enclosure parts can
result in burn injuries.
• During operation, do not touch any parts other than the enclosure lid of the inverter.

NOTICE
Damage to the enclosure seal in subfreezing conditions
If you open the inverter when temperatures are below freezing, the enclosure seals can be
damaged. This can lead to moisture entering the inverter.
• Only open the inverter if the ambient temperature is not below -5°C.
• If a layer of ice has formed on the enclosure seal when temperatures are below freezing,
remove it prior to opening the inverter (e.g. by melting the ice with warm air).
NOTICE
Damage to the inverter due to sand, dust and moisture
Sand, dust and moisture penetration can damage the inverter, thus impairing its functionality.
• Only open the inverter if the humidity is within the thresholds and the environment is free of
sand and dust.
• Do not open the inverter during a dust storm or precipitation.
• Close the inverter in case of interruption of work or after finishing work.
NOTICE
Damage to the inverter due to electrostatic discharge
Touching electronic components can cause damage to or destroy the inverter through
electrostatic discharge.
• Ground yourself before touching any component.
Grounding conductor test prior to recommissioning
Prior to recommissioning SMA inverters after the installation of SMA components or power
assemblies which cannot be replaced intuitively, ensure that the grounding conductor in the
inverter is correctly connected. The function of the grounding conductor must be ensured and
all locally applicable laws, standards and directives must be observed.
Observe superordinate standards
The repair work on devices and the consideration and application of other standards which
correspond to a superordinate standard is the responsibility of the qualified person performing
the work. Unauthorized alterations will void guarantee and warranty claims and in most cases
terminate the operating license. SMA Solar Technology AG shall not be held liable for any
damage caused by such changes.
3 Scope of Delivery
Check the scope of delivery for completeness and any externally visible damage. Contact the
Service if the delivery is incomplete or damaged.

Known incompatibility
The residual-current monitoring unit in the variant DI2G-01 functions exclusively with inverters
from firmware version 1.30 and higher.
5 Disconnecting the Inverter from Voltage Sources
Prior to performing any work on the inverter, always disconnect it from all voltage sources as
described in this section.
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when live components or DC cables are
touched
When exposed to light, the PV modules generate high DC voltage which is present in the DC
cables. Touching live DC cables results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Do not touch non-insulated parts or cables.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• Do not disconnect the DC connectors under load.
• Wear suitable personal protective equipment for all work on the product.
WARNING
Danger to life due to electric shock from destruction of the measuring device
due to overvoltage
Overvoltage can damage a measuring device and result in voltage being present in the
enclosure of the measuring device. Touching the live enclosure of the measuring device results in
death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Only use measuring devices with a DC input voltage range of 800 V or higher.
1. Disconnect the circuit breaker and secure it against reconnection.
2. Remove the ESS.
3. Use a current clamp to ensure that no current is present in the DC cables.
4. Ensure that the DC connectors are in perfect condition and that none of the DC conductors or
DC plug contacts are exposed.
5. Carefully loosen the DC connectors.
6. Ensure that no voltage is present at the DC inputs of the inverter.

7. Wait 10 minutes before opening the enclosure lid.
8. Loosen all screws of the enclosure lid and remove the enclosure lid.
9. Ensure that no voltage is present between L and N at the AC terminal using a suitable
measuring device.
10. Ensure that no voltage is present between L and PE at the AC terminal using a suitable
measuring device.
11. Actively discharge the DC link. For this purpose use,
for example, a 2-pole voltage detector that does not
have its own voltage source. Using the voltage
detector, conduct a measurement on the connection
screws of the terminal of the DC link connection
cable until a value of 0V is displayed.
12. Actively discharge the charging circuit of the
contactor on the left. For this purpose use, for
example, a 2-pole voltage detector that does not
have its own voltage source. Using the voltage
detector, conduct a measurement on the connection
screw of the terminal with the black connection
cable (1) and on the metal tongue of the contactor
on the left (2) until a value of 0V is displayed.

13. Actively discharge the charging circuit of the
contactor on the right. For this purpose use, for
example, a 2-pole voltage detector that does not
have its own voltage source. Using the voltage
detector, conduct a measurement on the connection
screw of the terminal block with the red connection
cable (1) and on the metal tongue of the contactor
on the right (2) until a value of 0V is displayed.

14. NOTICE
Damage to the inverter due to electrostatic discharge
The internal components of the inverter can be irreparably damaged by electrostatic
discharge.
• Ground yourself before touching any component.

Procedure:
1. Disconnect the inverter from all voltage sources (see Section5, page12).
2. Remove the ribbon cable (A) from the CON assembly, the OCS assembly and the power
assembly (AST).
3. Remove all cables:
• Remove the AC cable (F) from the screw terminals. When doing so, ensure that the
grounding conductor remains connected to the inverter in order to guarantee ESD
protection.
• Remove the connection between the power assembly (AST) and the CON assembly (E).
• If an additional capacitor has been installed, disconnect the capacitor's cable (C) and
remove the capacitor.
• Remove the cables (D) coming from the choke from the screw terminals or spring clamp
terminals. To disconnect the cables from the screw terminals, use a flat-blade screwdriver
(blade width: 5.5mm).
• Remove the DC link connection cable (L) from the screw terminals.
• Remove the DC cable (H) from the screw terminals.

4. Disassemble the fan (B). To do so, press the locking tabs at the top left and right of the retainer
outward and move the fan upward out of the retainer.
5. Remove all string fuses (I).
6. Unscrew the 12 screws of the CON assembly with a Torx screwdriver (TX 20).
7. Tilt the CON assembly slightly forward at the top and remove it through the front.
8. Remove the RCMU (K) from the CON assembly:
• Remove the residual-current monitoring unit’s cables (G) from the screw terminals.
• Lead the cables through the residual-current monitoring unit back to their origin.
• Press the 2 locking tabs on the rear side of the CON assembly together and remove the
residual-current monitoring unit from the CON assembly.
7 Installing the new CON assembly
NOTICE
Damage to the inverter due to excessive torques during screw tightening
Screw contact areas may be ruptured due to excessive torques.
• Use only the new screws included in delivery to install the new assembly.
• Tighten all screws with a Torx screwdriver. On no account exceed the specified torques.
Procedure:
1. Disconnect the inverter from all voltage sources (see Section5, page12).
2. Install the RCMU on the new CON assembly:
• Lead the residual-current monitoring unit's locking tabs through the openings in the CON
assembly until they snap into place.
• Lead the 2 connection cables through the residual-current monitoring unit to the screw
terminals in parallel form.
3. Break the top-left edge of the new CON assembly out at the predetermined breaking point.
4. Insert the new CON assembly into the inverter's enclosure. When doing so, ensure that there
are no cables below the CON assembly and no cables get stuck there, and that the screw
holes in the CON assembly are located directly above the screw holes in the inverter’s
enclosure.
5. Secure the CON assembly in place. To do so, insert 2 new screws with a microencapsulated
pre-coating into the screw holes at the top left and right and tighten them slightly.
6. Insert the remaining 8 new screws with a microencapsulated pre-coating into the screw holes
and tighten all 10 screws (TX20, torque: 3Nm).
7. Connect the new ribbon cable from the delivery scope to the OCS assembly, the power
assembly (AST) and the CON assembly.
8. Connect all cables to the CON assembly:
• Connect the DC link connection (H) to the screw terminals or spring clamp terminals
(torque for connection to screw terminals: 1.5Nm). Ensure the color assignment is correct
(BK = black, RD = red).

• Connect the cables coming from the choke (A) to the screw terminals or spring clamp
terminals (torque for connection to screw terminals: 2.5Nm). When connecting the
cables, ensure the color assignment is correct (BK = black, BL = blue).
• Mount the flat male tab onto the blade connector between the contactor and AC terminal
block (B).
• Connect the residual-current monitoring unit's connection cable (G) to the screw terminals
(torque: 1.5Nm).
• Connect the AC cable (C) to the screw terminals.
• Connect the positive DC cable (D) to the screw terminals (torque: 1.5Nm).
• Connect the cable of the Electronic Solar Switch (E) to the screw terminals (torque:
1.5Nm).
• Connect the negative DC cable (F) to the screw terminals (torque: 1.5Nm).

9. Check the tension of every cable.

10. Insert the fan into the retainer at the bottom first of
all and then press it into the locking tabs at the top
so that the locking tabs snap into place. The
direction arrow on the fan must point away from the
retainer.
11. Ensure that the fan is seated in the retainer correctly and securely.
12. If string fuses are present, remove the jumpers that are connected to the fuse holders of the
new CON assembly and insert the string fuses into the fuse holders.
13. Carry out the necessary tests according to the locally applicable laws, standards and
directives for the correct recommissioning after power assembly replacement. Take the
requirements for component replacements into account (see Section2.2 "IMPORTANT
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS", page8).
14. Ensure that the grounding conductor in the inverter is correctly connected and functions
properly.
15. After replacing the defective component, ensure operational and system safety in accordance
with the locally applicable electrotechnical rules.
16. Recommission the inverter (see inverter manual).
17. If the inverter is in permanent operation inhibition, which is indicated by the glowing yellow
LED, reset the permanent operation inhibition using a communication device. This allows the
inverter to feed into the utility grid again.
8 Returning and Disposing of the Defective Assembly
If the defective assembly is to be returned, this will be stated on the order form.
Procedure:
1. If the defective assembly is to be returned:
• Pack the defective assembly for shipping. Use the original packaging for this, or
packaging that is suitable for the weight and size of the assembly.
• Organize the return shipment to SMA Solar Technology AG. Contact the Service.
2. If the assembly is not to be returned, dispose of the assembly in accordance with the locally
applicable disposal regulations for electronic waste.

1.1 Gültigkeitsbereich
Dieses Dokument gilt für:
• NR-SMC2TL-CON

1.2 Zielgruppe
Die in diesem Dokument beschriebenen Tätigkeiten dürfen nur Fachkräfte durchführen. Fachkräfte
müssen über folgende Qualifikation verfügen:
• Innerhalb der SMA Werksgarantie ist die Teilnahme an einem SMA Schulungsangebot zur
Durchführung der in diesem Dokument beschriebenen Tätigkeiten zwingend erforderlich. Die
Art der Schulung und die verwendeten Medien können länderspezifisch voneinander
abweichen. Die Art und Weise der Schulung kann daher von Land zu Land unterschiedlich
sein, muss aber vor Leistungserbringung durchlaufen worden sein.
• Außerhalb der SMA Werksgarantie empfiehlt SMA Solar Technology AG die Teilnahme an
einem SMA Schulungsangebot zur Durchführung der in diesem Dokument beschriebenen
Tätigkeiten. Dadurch werden die Qualitätsanforderungen für einen ordnungsgemäßen
Austausch von Baugruppen sichergestellt. Die Art der Schulung und die verwendeten Medien
können länderspezifisch voneinander abweichen.
• Sicherer Umgang mit dem Freischalten von SMA Wechselrichtern
• Kenntnis über Funktionsweise und Betrieb eines Wechselrichters
• Schulung im Umgang mit Gefahren und Risiken bei der Installation, Reparatur und Bedienung
elektrischer Geräte und Anlagen
• Ausbildung für die Installation und Inbetriebnahme von elektrischen Geräten und Anlagen
• Kenntnis der einschlägigen Gesetze, Normen und Richtlinien
• Kenntnis und Beachtung dieses Dokuments mit allen Sicherheitshinweisen
