TDS is the abbreviation for “Total Dissolved Solids”.It shows you the number
of dissolved particles per 1 million water particles (approx. 1 milliliter). This
value is expressedin ppm (parts per million).
This offers a simple way to verify the operation of a reverse osmosis
system.
0 -50 ppm: The system works well. (Depending on the quality of
inlet water, the upper limit can also be more than 50 ppm).
50 -100 ppm: Membraneandfilterneedsto be replaced.
The TDS meter measures the conductivity in the water and estimates the
number of particles not made of water molecules. Although, the device
cannot determine the actual type of the particles.
The TDS meter cannot determine the actual type of the particles found in
water.
It cannot determine whether they are harmless substances (sodium,
carbonic acid, etc.) or hazardous substances such as pesticides, drug
residues or nitrate.
Therefore, it cannot give a confirm statement about the pollutant fraction
in the water.
Since the filter process rapidly dissolves CO2 in the waterand thus reacts to
carbonic acid, the ppm value will always be somewhat above 0 and rise
over time.
