M1000 Install Manual
GENERAL
The M1000’s operation is simple and reliable, containing no motors or electronics. The system is always
held in the fully open position by a corrosion resistant fusible link that will break when temperatures reach
165⁰F. The curtain then drops to the floor protect the opening. It is easily rewinds manually with a 1/2’’
ratchet using the rewind screw on the Left side of the housing.

Installing
1. Snap a chalk line marking the bottom of the housing
2. Mark a Center Line (CL) over your opening and the center of your housing
3. Remove the hinge and retainer plate assembly.
4. Remove the Bottom cover of the housing
5. Remove the Front cover of the housing,
6. Loosely Zip Tie around the Bottom Bar and curtain roll inside the housing.
7. Mount the housing using predrilled holes in the 4 corners of the Back of the housing.
Note: Housing is 25lbs per foot

8. Cut zip ties used in step 5 to lower the screen to the finished floor. Caution: screen will free fall
quickly.
9. Use provided strap to drill and pop rivit extra screen onto the screen barral to prevent curtain
from over traveling. Please see the DO Not Drill locations marked on the strap, these mark the
dampener and electronic locations along the curtain barral. See pics below

10. Rewind Screen using the ½’’ Bolt on the Left side of the housing and secure so the screen doesn’t
deploy. See pic below
Side Guides
If the guides are to be recessed into a pocket, verify that a guide with the following dimensions will fit
in the pocket:
°width: 3’’
°depth: 3 ½’’

1. Align the side guides to the back corners of the housing, Plumb and secure with provided
hardware. See pic below for correct orientation
2. Cut the Zip Ties and feed the bottom bar and curtain tabs thru the side guide slots to the floor.
3. Verify that the bottom bar completely seats on the floor. The curtain strap is set to the designed
drop length, however dependent on field conditions it may be necessary to reset the drop height
by moving the curtain strap. (See strapping instructions on pg. 3 or contact Smoke Guard if
necessary).
4. Shim the top of the screen with tape if the curtain is moving left or right as it deploys. The curtain
barrel must be centered between the rails.
5. Adjust set screws that will raise or lower the curtain barrel. The bottom cover will need removed
to access these adjustment screws. See pic for location below

Head box
1. Re-attach the front cover of the housing
2. Using the ½’’ retract bolt, rewind curtain so its flush with the bottom of the housing
3. Test system by dropping the curtain retaining plate and allow the curtain to deploy by gravity. See
pic of retaining plate below
4. Close latch and reattach fusible link with provided hardware
Finishing
1. Run a bead of fire calking or paintable silicone around the inside of the system where it meets the
wall. See pic below
