1.0 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
CongratulationsonyourchoiceoftheSolaHDS1KSeriesUninterruptiblePower
System(UPS).
Thismanualcontainsimportantsafetyinstructionsthatshouldbefollowed
duringtheinstallationandmaintenanceoftheUPS.Pleasereadthismanual
thoroughly,includingallsafety,installation,andoperatinginstructionsbefore
attemptingtoinstalloroperatethisUPS.Pleaseadheretoallwarningsonthe
unitandinthismanualandfollowalloperatinganduserinstructions.
Thisequipmentisdesignedforindustrialorcommercialuseandcanbeinstalled
andoperatedbyindividualswithoutprevioustraining.
ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClass
Adigitaldevice,pursuanttopart15oftheFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesigned

Theindicatorashesslowly(aboutonceevery2seconds)whentheUPSis
supplyingbatterypowertotheloads.Theindicatorashesrapidly(aboutonce
everyhalfsecond)whentheloadsconnectedtotheUPSexceedcapacity.
RemotePort(computerinterface):ProvidesbothRS-232andrelaysignals
tosupportWindowsapplicationsandotherOScompatiblesolutions.Please
referto“9.3RemotePort”fordetails.

InspecttheUPSuponreceipt.Damagethatmayhaveoccurredintransitisnot
coveredunderthewarranty.Ifshippingdamageispresent,pleasecontactyour
localcarrierandSolaHDdistributorimmediately.

4.0 Installation
InstalltheUPSinaprotectedareawithadequateairowandfreeofexcessive
dust.DonotoperatetheUPSoutdoors.
TopoweruptheUPS,connecttheacinputconnectortoutilitypower.
TheUPSchargesitsbatterywheneveritisconnectedtoutilitypower.Forbest
results,chargethebatteryfor4hoursbeforeinitialuse.
ConnecttheloadstotheUPSprotectedoutputoutletsontherearoftheUPS.

5.0 Operating Instructions
Theoutputoutletswillprovideprotectionfromsurgesandpowerfailures.Plug
yourcomputer,monitor,andother“datacritical”devicesintotheseoutlets.
Thesurgeprotectedoutletcanofferprotectionagainstsurgesandtransients
typicallycausedbylightningordisruptiveloadsinthebuilding.Intheeventof
utilitypowerfailure,thisoutletwillnotprovidebackuppowertotheload.Utilize
thisoutletwithlesscriticaldevicessuchasprinters,scanners,faxmachines,or
externalspeakers.
WiththeUPSpluggedin,pressandholdtheOn/Off/Testbuttonformorethan1
seconduntiltheLineNormalLEDislit.TheUPSwillperformself-testingeach
timeitisswitchedon.
PressandholdtheOn/Off/Testbuttonformorethan2secondsuntiltheLine
NormalorBackupLEDturnsoff.
Usetheself-testfunctiontoverifyboththeoperationoftheUPSandthecondi-
tionofthebattery.Innormalutilitypower,presstheOn/Off/Testbuttonforless
than1secondtoperformaself-testfunction.Duringtheself-test,theUPSrunsin
BackupMode.IftheUPSpassestheself-test,itreturnstoLineNormaloperation.
Ifaloadof<20wattsisconnectedtotheUPSandtheacpowerfailsorisdiscon-
nected,theUPSwillentertheGreenMode.Atthistime,thegreenLEDonthe
frontpanelwillashevery3to5seconds.Afterapproximately3minutes,theUPS
willshutdown,preventingadeepdischargeofthebattery.TheUPSwillreturnto
LineNormaloperationwhenacpowerreturns.
IftheUPSisintheBatteryBackupModeandtheloadisdecreasedto<20watts,
theUPSwillagainentertheGreenModeandwillshutdownwithin3minutes.
ApplicationofacpowerwillreturntheUPStoLineNormaloperation.
IftheGreenModeofoperationisnotdesired,itcanbedisabledbyholding
downtheOn/Off/Testbuttonuntiltwobeepsareheard.TheGreenModewillbe
disabledandwillremaininthismodeuntiltheUPSisturnedoff.

audiblealarm.ThealarmstopswhentheUPSreturnstoLineNormaloperation.

InBackupModewhenthebatteryenergyrunslow,theUPSbeepsrapidlyuntil

toeliminatetheoverload.

UPSMONsoftware(orotherpowermonitoringsoftware)utilizesastandard
RS-232interfacetoperformmonitoringfunctionsandanorderlyshutdownof
theprotectedequipmentintheeventofpowerfailure.UPSMONdisplaysallthe
diagnosticsymptomsonthemonitor,includingvoltage,frequency,andbattery
levels.UPSMONisavailableforWindowsapplicationsandotherOScompatible
solutions.PleasecontactSolaHDTechnicalSupportformoreinformation.
Interfacekitsincludearequiredinterfacecabletoconvertstatussignalsfromthe
UPSintosignalswhichanindividualoperatingsystemwillrecognize.Theinter-
facecablemustbeconnectedtotheRemotePortontherearpaneloftheUPS
andtothehostcomputer(eitherCOM1orCOM2).Refertothe“READ.ME”le
forfurtherinstructions.
TheRemotePortontherearpaneloftheUPSmaybeconnectedtoahost
computertoallowforUPSstatusmonitoringandoperationcontrol.Functions
include:broadcastingawarningwhenpowerfails,closinganyopenlebefore
thebatteriesareexhausted,andturningofftheUPS.
