Notes on chip component replacement
• Never reuse a disconnected chip component.
• Notice that the minus side of a tantalum capacitor may be dam-
aged by heat.
SAFETY CHECK-OUT
After correcting the original service problem, perform the follow-
ing safety check before releasing the set to the customer:
Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs,
screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage.
Check leakage as described below.
LEAKAGE TEST
TheAC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground and
from all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having a
return to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microampers.).
Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods.
1. A commercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCA
WT-540A. Follow the manufacturers’instructions to use these
instruments.
2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245
digital multimeter is suitable for this job.
3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a
VOM or battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indica-
tion is 0.75 V, so analog meters must have an accurate low-
voltage scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are ex-
amples of a passive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery
operated digital multimeters that have a 2VAC range are suit-
able. (See Fig. A)

ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS
TRANSMITTER SECTION
Transmitter Output Adjustment
Setting:
CH switch (S101): B
Procedure:
1. Take out solder for BP1 on the TX board, and take out solder
for BP2 on the MIC board.
2. Connect the frequency counter, RF-VTVM and modulation
meter with TP1 and TP2.
3. Adjust L105 for 49.860 MHz reading on the frequency counter.
4. Adjust T101andT102 for maximum reading on the RF-VTVM.
5. Adjust RV101 for 0.075 to 0.085 Vrms reading on the RF-
VTVM.
6. Connect theAF OSC with TP3 and TP4, and input the signal.
7. Adjust RV102 for 2.5 kHz deviation reading on the modula-
tion meter.
8. After adjustment take solder on BP1 and BP2

Adjust T201 and T202 for a minimum reading on the level meter.

up and the buzzer sounds point.

Procedure:
1. Adjust RV203 for the MONITOR indicator (D204) is just lights
up point.
2. Set the frequency of the FM RF SSG to 49.830 MHz.
3. Set the CH switch (S201) to A, and verify that the signal can
be received.
4. Set the frequency of the FM RF SSG to 49.890 MHz.
5. Set the CH switch to A, and verify that the signal can be re-
ceived.
