Outline
The BVF-20W/20WCE is a wide-aspect 2-inch screen
(aspect ratio 16:9) viewfinder which can be attached to
a Sony BVP-550 series color video camera.
The BVF-20W/20WCE has the features described
below.
16:9 display
16:9 or 4:3 display can be selected by camera setting.
The wide-aspect 2-inch CRT allows uncompressed
16:9 display.
High-Performance CRT
•Quick-start type (The image appears as soon as the
camera is turned on.)
•Enhanced resolution
•Reduced flare
Marker indication
When the camera setting allows the center marker or
safety zone marker indication, the viewfinder can set
the marker indication on or off.
Removable Eyepiece
Detaching the eyepiece gives you a clear view of the
center of the screen even with your eye away from the
viewfinder. You can clean dust from the screen or the
mirror by detaching the eyepiece.
Others
•Due to its large diameter, you can see the screen well
at a longer distance.
•Fitting a fog-proof filter (Part No. 1-547-341-11, not
supplied) over the viewfinder lens prevents breath or
vapor condensation on the lens.

1Plug
Connect to the VF connector on the camera.
2Stopper
Prevents the viewfinder from coming off the camera
when it is slid from side to side.
3Tally indicator (rear)
Lights up when the camera receives a tally control
signal. This indicator can be covered when not in use.
4Diopter adjustment ring
Allows for optimal adjustment of focus.
5Tally indicator (front)
Lights up when the camera receives a tally control
signal. Turn the TALLY switch 9OFF when not in
use. The brightness can also be adjusted with the
TALLY switch 9.
6PEAKING control
Turning this control clockwise adjusts the picture
sharpness, and makes focusing easier. This control has
no effect on the output signals of the camera.
7CONTRAST control
Adjusts the contrast of the screen. This control has no
effect on the output signals of the camera.
8BRIGHT control
Adjusts the brightness of the screen. This control has
no effect on the output signals of the camera.
9TALLY switch
Controls the tally indicator 5located on the front of
the viewfinder.
HIGH: The tally indicator brightness is set to high.
OFF: The tally indicator is disabled.
LOW: The tally indicator brightness is set to low.
!º ZEBRA (zebra pattern) switch
Controls the zebra pattern display on the viewfinder
screen as follows:
ON: A zebra pattern appears and stays.
OFF: The zebra pattern disappears.
MOMENT: A zebra pattern appears and stays for
about five seconds.
!¡ DISPLAY switch
Enables or disables the marker indication when the
indication is set to on with the camera.

Attaching theViewfinder to a Camera
1Loosen the left-right positioning ring on the
camera.
2Insert the slide guide which is located on the front
of the camera into the slide rail which is located on
the back of the viewfinder.
3Slide the viewfinder in the direction of the arrow.

4Position the viewfinder by sliding it from side to
side, and tighten the left-right positioning ring on
the camera.
5Connect the plug to the VF connector on the
camera.
Detaching the viewfinder
To detach the viewfinder from the camera, conduct the
attachment procedure in reverse. When removing the
viewfinder from the camera, pull up the stopper.

Adjusting the Focus and Screen
Adjusting the focus
Turn the diopter adjustment ring until the image is
sharpest for your eyesight.
Adjusting the screen
To adjust the peaking, brightness and contrast of the
viewfinder screen rotate the controls which are
illustrated below.

Detaching the Eyepiece
Detaching the eyepiece gives you a clear view of the
screen even with your eye away from the viewfinder.
Detach the eyepiece to clean the screen and mirror, and
to attach the optional fog-proof filter.
For details on cleaning the viewfinder or attaching the
fogproof filter, see “Cleaning the Screen and Interior” on
page 11(E).
1Turn the eyepiece locking ring
fully counterclockwise to line
up the red match marks on the
locking ring with the red match
mark on the viewfinder barrel.
2Detach the eyepiece.
Refitting the eyepiece
1Align the match mark on the eyepiece locking ring
with that on the viewfinder barrel.
2Align the match mark on the end of the eyepiece
(see Step
2 above) with that of the eyepiece
locking ring, then insert the eyepiece into the
viewfinder barrel.

3Turn the eyepiece locking ring clockwise until its
“LOCK” indication arrow points to the match
mark on the viewfinder barrel.

Attaching the Microphone
Proceed as follows to attach the supplied microphone.
1Loosen the screw of the
microphone holder and open
the holder.
2Attach the microphone to the
microphone holder, then close
the holder and tighten the
screw.
3Insert the microphone plug into
the MIC connector on the
camera, or the MIC IN
connector, which is either on
the camera adaptor or on the
VTR attached to the camera.
When connecting the microphone to the camera adaptor,
you will need to set the microphone selector. For details,
see the manual supplied with your camera adaptor.
