(TGWE675 only)
By creatingaprogram,you canplay back
tracks on deck A in any order that you want.
The RandomMusic Sensor(RMS) function lets
you create a program of up to 28 tracks,from
the 1stto the 14thtrackson eachsideof the
tape.
1 Press RMSISTART.
“RMS” andaflashing cursorappearin the
display.
2 Press U (BACK) or D (FRONT) to
select the side of the tape.
Q or D appearsin thedisplay.
3 Press 44 or H repeatedly until the
track number you want appears in the
display.

4 Press SET to store your selection.

6 Press RMSISTART to start RMS Play.
If “FULL” appears in the display
This meansthatyou’ve alreadyprogrammed28
tracksandcan’t programanymore.
The peak level meters appear in the display.
To stop RMS Play
Press n (CLEAR) once. The RMS program
still remains. To resume RMS play, press
RMSISTART.
To cancel RMS Play
Press n (CLEAR) repeatedly until the peak
level meters appear in the display or eject the
tape in deck A. When RMS Play is canceled,
the RMS program is automatically erased.
To alternate between the RMS and
peak level meter displays
Press DISPLAY.

Checking the order of tracks
in the program
Press CHECK.
Each time you press this button, the display
shows the track numbers in the order they were v

programmed. After the last track in the
program, “End” appears in the display.

To adjust the recording level
manually
After pressing l REC in Step4 on page 10,
turn REC LEVEL sothat thepeaklevel meters
reachtherecommendedlevel for the
correspondingtapetype. After completing the
adjustments,stopplaying theprogramsource,
thencontinuetheprocedurefrom Step5.

Sincetherearemanydifferent typesof
cassetteson themarket,your tapedeck
automatically setstheappropriateequalization
characteristicsandbiascurrent for eachtape
type (ATS: Automatic TapeSelection).
However, you cangetbetterrecordingresults
by doing theautomaticbiascurrentandthe
recordinglevel calibration.
1 Load the cassette you want to record

appears in the display.

Updating the calibration
setting
If you loadacassetteand“m CAL” or “CAL
q ’ appearsin thedisplay, it meansthat
automaticcalibration datain that deckfor that
tapetype (I, II or IV) exists. However, we
recommendthat you repeattheautomatic
calibration procedureeachtime you loadanew
cassettesincecassettesof the sametype also
vary in their characteristics.
Beforerecalibrating, besureto turn off “m
CAL” or “CAL q ” by pressingtheDECK A
or DECK B button. Then startfrom Step2 of
theautomaticcalibration procedure.
-Auto Ret Level
The Auto Ret Level function automatically
measuresthepeaksignallevel andadjuststhe
recordinglevel accordingly. The Auto Ret
Level function operatesduring normal
recording,Relay Recording* or Simultaneous
Recording* on either deck.
* TC-WE675 only
1 Follow Steps 1 to 3 of “Recording on a
tape” on page 10.
Make surethatrecord-protecttabson the
cassettehavenot beenremoved.
2 Press 0 REC.
The AUTO indicator flashesandthe deck
automatically adjuststherecording level.
The AUTO indicator lights upcontinuously
after therecordinglevel hasbeenadjusted.
3 Press II PAUSE or D.
Recordingstarts.
To cancel the Auto Ret Level
function
PressARL or turn REC LEVEL to turn off the
AUTO indicator. If you do either of these
during recording,recording will continuebut
with theAuto Ret Level function turnedoff.

Tips
l You shouldadjusttherecordinglevel manually
with REC LEVEL in thefollowing cases:
-The recordinglevel cannotbeadjustedproperly
dueto excessivenoisein theprogram source.
-The program source level is too low andthe
recordinglevel doesnot increase.
During aquiet passagein aprogramsourcesuch
asclassicalmusic, therecordinglevel maynot
increasefor sometime. If ahigh soundlevel is
expectedlateron in thetrack, play that portion
first sothattheright adjustmentcanbeobtained.
-The recordinglevel doesnot decreasefor a long
time. TheAuto Ret Level function may not
work properly whenyou try to recordsound
producedby agraphicequalizerthathas
extremelyhigh-level signals.
* To preventchangesin therecordinglevel after
recordingstarts,press0 RECwhile playing the
highestsoundlevel portion of theprogramsourceto
berecorded. The result is amorenatural-sounding
recording.
* If you play theentireprogramsourceafterthe
AUTO indicator hasstoppedflashing andis lit
continuously,thedeckwill settherecordinglevel
for theportion of the programsourcewith the
highestsignallevel.
* After you havefinished recordingwith theAuto
Ret Level function, theAUTO indicator remainson
andtherecordinglevel settingremainsthesame.
To cancelthesetting,do oneof thefollowing:
- PressARL to turn off theAUTO indicator
- Turn RECLEVEL
- Turn thedeckoff.
- Fader
You can gradually increase the recording level
at the beginning of a recording (fade in) or
gradually decrease the recording level at the
end of a recording (fade out).
It is convenient to use this function, for
example, when the tape reaches to its end and
you don’t want the track to be cut off abruptly.

FADER atthepoint whereyou want
thefade-outto start. Whenthefade-out
hascompleted,“REC” flashesin the
display andthedeckpauses.

Fade-inor fade-outis notpossiblewhenRECLEVEL
is manuallysetto 0 (minimum) (seepage11).

You can copy a tape in deck A to a tape in deck
B at normal or high speed.
1 Load a recorded cassette into deck A
and a blank cassette into deck B.
Make sure the record-protect tabs on the
cassette in deck B have not been removed.
2 Select the side(s) to be recorded on.

normal-speeddubbing,setthe DOLBY NR selector

want to skip.

2 Locate the point you want to resume
recording on deck A, then stop the
tape.
3 Press II PAUSE on deck B to resume
dubbing.
5 Press II PAUSE on deck B to start
dubbing.

- RMS Dubbing
(TGWE676 only)
You canrecordan RMS programthat you’ve
created(see“Creating your own program
(RMS Play)” on page8). This function works
only atnormal speed.
1 Load a recorded cassette into deck A
and a blank cassette into deck B.
Make sure the record-protect tabs on the
cassettein deckB havenot beenremoved
2 Program tracks on deck A (see Steps 1
to 5 on page 8).
3 Press HIGH/NORMAL once to change
the tape deck to dubbing standby.
4 Select the side of the tape in deck B
YOU want to record on.

5 Press RMWSTART or II PAUSE on
deck B to start RMS Dubbing.
To stop RMS Dubbing
Press n on deck B. The RMS program

You caninsert ablank spaceof 4 seconds
betweenthe tracks. The blank spacesallow
you to locatethe startof specific tracks
afterwardsusing theMulti-AMS function (see
page8). You canalsousethis function to
erase
unwantedportions on atape.
1 Follow Steps 1 to 5 of “Recording on a
tape” on page 10.

2 Press 0 REC MUTING where you want
to load a blank space.
“REC” flashesin thedisplay andablank is
recordedon thetape.
After 4 seconds,II lights up andthetape

The CONTROL A 1II control systemwas
designedto simplify the operationof audio
systemscomposedof separateSony
components.CONTROL Al11 connections
provide apathfor the transmissionof control
signalsthat enableautomaticoperationand
control featuresusually associatedwith
integratedsystems.
Currently, CONTROL Al11 connections
betweena SonyMD deck,CD player, amplifier
(receiver),andcassettedeckprovide automatic
function selectionandsynchronizedrecording.
In thefuture theCONTROL Al11 connection
will work asa multifunction busallowing you
to control variousfunctions for each
component.
Note
TheCONTROL A III control systemis designedto
maintainupwardcompatibility asthecontrol system
is upgradedto handlenewfunctions.In this case,
however,older componentswill notbecompatible
with thenewfunctions.
CONTROL Al II and CONTROL Al
compatibility
The CONTROL Al control systemhasbeen
updatedto theCONTROL Al11 which is
the standardsystemin theSony300disc
CD changerandotherrecentSony
components.Componentswith CONTROL
AI jacks arecompatible with components
with CONTROL A 1II, andcanbe
connectedto eachother.Basically, the
majority of thefunctions availablewith the
CONTROL A 1control systemwill be
availablewith theCONTROL Al11 control
system.However, whenmaking
connectionsbetweencomponentswith
CONTROL Al jacks andcomponentswith
CONTROL A 1II jacks, thenumberof
functions thatcanbecontrolled maybe
limited dependingon thecomponent.For
detailedinformation, refer to theoperating
instructionssuppliedwith thecomponent(s).

thereversesideof thetape(U lights up),CD
Synchro-recordingstopsandtheCD playerstops

On power sources
* Beforeoperatingthetapedeck,checkthatthe

l Theunit is not disconnectedfrom theAC power
source(mains)aslong asit is connectedto thewall
outlet, evenif theunit itself hasbeenturnedoff
(U.S.A. andCanadianmodelsonly).
l If you arenot going to usethetapedeckfor along
time, besureto disconnectthetapedeckfrom the
wall outlet. To disconnecttheAC powercord,
grasptheplug itself; neverpull thecord.
l AC powercord mustbechangedonly atthe
qualified serviceshop.
On operation
l Becauseof asafetymechanism,thefunction
buttonswill not operateif thecassetteholderis not
completelyclosed,if thereis nocassettein the
cassetteholder,or if acassettehasbeenincorrectly
loadedinto thecassetteholder.
l Be sureto stopthetapebeforeturning off thetape
deck. Otherwise,thetapemaybedamaged.
On placement
l Placethetapedeck in a location with adequate
ventilation to preventheatbuild-up in thetapedeck.
l Do notplacethetapedeck:
- onasoft surfacesuchasarug that might block
theventilation holeson thebottom.
- in a locationnearheatsources.
-in aplacesubjectto direct sunlight.
- in aninclined position.
- in aplacesubjectto excessivedustor mechanical
shock.
On cleaning the tape deck
Cleanthecabinet,panelandcontrolswith asoft cloth
slightly moistenedwith amild detergentsolution. Do
notuseanytypeof abrasivepad,scouringpowderor
solventsuchasalcohol or benzine.
