DESCRIPTION
This bulletin provides instructions on how to install and remove
the optional lens. The instructions are attached from pages 2–10.
CAUTION: Installation and removal of the optical lens must be
performed ONLY by service personnel properly trained and
thoroughly knowledgeable on safe handling of laser-emitting
equipment.
NOTE:
•The instructions are extracted from the following service
manual:
VPL-FHZ700L, VPL-F725HZL, VPL-F720HZL Service
Manual, 1st Edition (Revised 1), Section 1-7, “Installation/
Removal of Optional Lens.”
•The instructions are not included in the operation manual.
•Only the following optical lenses with laser certification can

1-7. Installation/Removal of Optional Lens

.Do not touch the lens portion with your hands.
.Do not work with this unit suspended from the ceiling.
1-7-1. Work Flow
Perform the installation and removal of the optional lens according to the following work flow.

1-7-2. Lens Shift Unit
Return the lens shift unit to the initial setting position.
1. Remove the lens door. (Refer to steps 1to 3in Section 1-6-2.)
2. Press the [SHIFT] or [LENS|SHIFT] button on this unit or the remote commander, then press the
[RESET] button on the remote controller.
The lens shift unit returns to the position (initial setting) as shown in the illustration.

1-7-3. Removal of Back Correction Glass Assembly
When attaching the optional lens VPLL-ZM42/Z4011, remove the back correction glass assembly from
the lens mounting portion of this unit.

When removing the back correction glass assembly, rotate it
in the direction of the arrow Aso that the mark of the back
correction glass assembly is aligned with the mark of the lens
adjustment adaptor.

1-7-4. Installation of Lens Adaptor
When attaching the optional lens VPLL-ZM42, the lens adaptor PK-F500LA2 is required.
1. Insert the lens into the lens adaptor.
2. Secure the lens with the four screws.

Installation
1. Remove the lens door. (Refer to steps 1to 3in Section 1-6-2.)
2. Temporarily attach the four screws (with stoppers) (supplied with the unit) to the lens.
3. Insert the connector of lens into the connector portion of this unit.
4. Fully tighten the four screws (with stoppers).
5. Attach the lens door in the reverse order of step 1.
Removal
1. Remove the lens door. (Refer to steps 1to 3in Section 1-6-2.)
2. Loosen the four screws (with stoppers), then pull out the lens straight.

1-7-6. Focus Adjustment of Peripheral Area
When attaching the optional lens VPLL-Z4007 to this unit, in addition to performing the adjustment of
screen focus, also perform the focus adjustment of the peripheral area.
1. Project the image and adjust the screen size using the zoom lever.
2. Rotate the peripheral focus ring so that it is located almost at the center of the movable range.
3. Adjust the focus of the screen center portion using the focus lever.
4. Adjust the focus of the peripheral area of screen by rotating the peripheral focus ring.

If the peripheral area of screen is out of focus even though the peripheral focus ring is rotated, per-
form the adjustment by using the spacer inside of the adaptor. (Refer to “If the peripheral area is out
of focus”.)
5. Check that the screen center portion is in focus.
6. If it is out of focus, repeat steps 3 and 4.

If the peripheral area is out of focus
Depending on the installation condition, the focus of the peripheral area of screen cannot be adjusted
using the peripheral focus ring. In such a case, perform the adjustment by changing the number of spacers
inside of the adaptor.
1. Remove the optional lens VPLL-Z4007 from this unit. (Refer to Section 1-7-5.)
2. Loosen the six screws, then remove the adaptor.

3. Remove the two screws from the spacer attached inside of the adaptor.
4. Add or remove a spacer according to the focus status of the peripheral area of screen.

When removing or attaching the spacer, handle it with extreme care not to cut your hands with it.

A spacer is supplied with the optional lens as a spare part. More than one spacer is attached to the
adaptor in the factory. The number of spacers varies depending on the optional lens.
If the focus moves close to Just Focus when you rotate the peripheral focus ring in the clockwise
direction as far as it will go, add a spacer.

If the focus moves away from Just Focus when you rotate the peripheral focus ring in the clockwise
direction as far as it will go, remove a spacer.
5. Secure the spacer with the two screws.

6. Attach the adaptor to the lens, then secure it with the six screws.
Align the connector portion of the adaptor so that it is located as shown in the illustration with respect
to the spring of the lens, then securely insert the adaptor to the lens.
7. Attach the lens to this unit.
8. Perform steps 1 to 4 in “Focus Adjustment of Peripheral Area”.
