Sony introduces the VPL-W400Q/W400QM LCD Video Projector, bringing the excitement
of large-screen viewing wherever it is used.
The Sony VPL-W400Q/W400QM incorporates a newly developed optical unit that
achieves superbly uniform and accurate image reproduction, with a dramatic brightness
level of 400 ANSI lumen and the excellent horizontal resolution of 600 TV lines.
The VPL-W400Q/W400QM is also a performer of great versatility. In addition to
reproducing 4:3 and 16:9 signals in their original aspect ratios, 4:3 signals can
also be displayed on a large screen in dynamic 16:9 format by taking
advantage of the 16:9 precision LCD panel incorporated in the projector.
With flexibility and stunning performance condensed into the compact, light
body of this easy-to-use projector, the VPL-W400Q/W400QM brings the full
dynamic impact of large-screen viewing into home theaters, hotels, restaurants
and classrooms.

Superior Picture Performance Convenient Features
16:9 wide aspect ratio
In addition to displaying pictures in their
original 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, the
VPL-W400Q/W400QM can add the
excitement of viewing 4:3 signals with a
wide aspect ratio. As well as a normal
mode, four other special picture modes
can be selected for 16:9 aspect ratio
reproduction: FULL, ZOOM, SUBTITLE
and WIDE ZOOM. When auto wide is set
to ON and the projector receives a letter
box signal, the picture automatically
switches to wide-screen mode.
Input capability
Accepting composite video, Y/C video,
component (Y/R-Y/B-Y), RGB and
HDTV*, the VPL-W400Q/W400QM can
reproduce images from various video
equipment on to screens with sizes
ranging from 41 to 300-inches and with a
16:9 aspect ratio.
* High-definition sources utilizing the 1125/60 interlaced
HDTV studio standard format.
Memory function
The VPL-W400Q/W400QM has five
memories for each of the inputs, VIDEO
and INPUT-A, allowing you to store
projection condition settings.

Installation position
The VPL-W400Q/W400QM features an optical
design which allows the projector to be
installed lower in comparison to the screen.
TRIG terminal
With the TRIG interface, the screens,
curtains and lighting of an integrated
projetion room can be controlled.
Power saving function
When the power saving mode is set to
ON and the projector has not received
an input or sync signal for more than 10
minutes, the projector power is
automatically reduced.
Stereo audio system
Dynamic sound can be enjoyed with the
built-in stereo audio system.
•FULL mode
This mode brings a new level
of excitement to video games,
making them more involving
and challenging. The picture
is enlarged horizontally.
•ZOOM mode
The picture is enlarged
vertically and horizontally,
making it ideal for capturing
the full-screen drama of wide-
format movies.
•SUBTITLE mode
The picture is enlarged based
on the ZOOM mode, but
leaving the subtitles on the
lower part of the screen.
•WIDE ZOOM mode
This mode is ideal for conven-
tional 4:3 pictures. The picture is
reproduced over the entire
screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
On-screen display
The on-screen menu display shows the
status of major operational functions
and adjustments, making it easy to
follow each adjustment as it is
performed. The on-screen menu
indication can be displayed in any one
of seven
languages:
English, French,
German, Italian,
Spanish,
Japanese and
Chinese.
Portability
The VPL-W400Q/W400QM is
compact and light in weight, and
can be easily transported. The
supplied joystick-type wireless
remote commander RM-PJM500
can be kept in the remote
commander pocket of the
VPL-W400Q/W400QM and
carried along with the projector.
