Overview
1) Ethernet is a registered trademark of Xerox Corporation.
The MAV-1000 multi access video and audio server
can provide a highly flexible video-and-audio server
system with various channel configurations in
combination with optional input/output processor
boards.
By connecting multiple HDD (hard disk drive) array
units, one-channel video with four-channel audio can
be recorded and reproduced as an AV file with RAID
(Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks)
technologies.
When recording, the server sends the component serial
digital (SDI) signal (where the video signal has been
compressed and encoded) to the connected HDD array
units, 3 or 4 units for video (RAID-3) and 1 unit for
audio (RAID-1), via the SBX (Serial Bus eXtension)
interface.
When reproducing AV files, it provides data sent from
the HDD array units via the SBX interface as a
component serial digital signal (where the video signal
has been obtained by expanding and decoding the
data).
This server can be set and controlled from an external
computer or editing unit.
Features
This server features the following:
High-quality video compression with input/
output processor boards
Video compression conforming to a subset of the
MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile @ML enables high-quality
compression of video signals.
Video data are compressed to approximately one-tenth
bitrate with GOP N=2 (BI) structure.
Multiple ports
By installing eight BKMA-1010 I/O processor boards,
SDI signals of up to eight ports can be processed.
Each port is equipped with SDI (4:2:2 video and
embedded audio) input and output for one-channel
video and four-channel audio.

High-speed input/output of AV files
By installing the BKMA-1040 high-speed I/O
processor board, input and output of AV files at high
speed (a maximum of 4 times with the SDDI interface
when four HDD array units are connected for video)
are enabled. In this case, up to six units of the BKMA-
1010 I/O processor board, BKMA-1020 input
processor board and/or BKMA-1030 output processor
board can be installed in combination.
External control of AV files
Jog, Var (variable) and Shuttle control of AV files
from an external editing unit is possible.
Jog: –1 to +1-time speeds
Var: –1 to +1-time speeds
Shuttle: –32 to +32-time speeds
A variety of input/output routes for flexible
system configuration
•Enables data transfer via Ethernet1).
•Enables video/audio monitoring with an SDDI
monitor output even while inputting/outputting a A/V
file at a high speed.
•Equipped with RS-232C, VS-BUS and RS-422A as
standards.
•Enables ISR (Interactive Status Reporting).
•Sends status data.
Recording of 23 hours
The recording time depends on the model and number
of the connected HDD array units for video.
HDD array units Maximum recording time
4 units 3 units
MAV-S1000 11 hours 8 hours
MAV-S1010 23 hours 17 hours
Power backup
The power block consists of three units of the same
type, thus maintaining normal operation even if one
unit is shut down.
19-inch rack mountable
The server can be used in an EIA-standard rack.
