Attention-when the product is installed in Rack:
1. Prevention against overloading of branch circuit
When this product is installed in a rack and is
supplied power from an outlet on the rack, please
make sure that the rack does not overload the
supply circuit.
2. Providing protective earth
When this product is installed in a rack and is
supplied power from an outlet on the rack, please
confirm that the outlet is provided with a suitable
protective earth connection.
3. Internal air ambient temperature of the rack
When this product is installed in a rack, please
make sure that the internal air ambient temperature
of the rack is within the specified limit of this
product.
4. Prevention against achieving hazardous
condition due to uneven mechanical loading
When this product is installed in a rack, please
make sure that the rack does not achieve
hazardous condition due to uneven mechanical
loading.
5. Install the equipment while taking the operating
temperature of the equipment into
consideration
For the operating temperature of the equipment,
refer to the specifications of the Operation Manual.
6. When performing the installation, keep the rear
of the unit 10 cm (4 inches) or more away from
walls in order to obtain proper exhaust and
radiation of heat.
When using a LAN cable:
For safety, do not connect to the connector for
peripheral device wiring that might have excessive
voltage.

Purpose of this manual
This manual is the installation manual of the VSR-2000A Multi Access Video and
Audio Server and Optional Board.
This manual is intended for use by trained system and service engineers, and
describes the information regarding installation. It also describes the information
regarding the following optional boards, and so on.

information for peripheral equipment connections, how to format the HDD, the
electrical alignment, etc.

the switches and LEDs on the board.
Section 3 Upgrading
This section describes the upgrading procedure from VSR-2000 to VSR-2000A
using the upgrade kit BKSR-U2000.

1-1. Cautions before Installation
The Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are installed in this unit. The HDD is a precision part. The causes such as
shock, vibration and static electricity to the unit, and the conditions of temperature and humidity may
damage HDD or its data.
Before installation, read fully the following cautions, and perform the installation with extra care.
Cautions about Shock and Vibration
When transporting and moving;
.Pack the unit using the packaging materials specified by the manufacturer.
(When transporting the unit, pack the HDDs separately.)
.Use a proper cart.
.Put a cushion* on the cart.
.Avoid rough routes, and manage the cart gently.
When placing on a floor or table;
.Put a cushion* on stable and horizontal place, and put the unit on it gently.
.Do not place the unit near vibrating equipments.
For the unit;
.Never hit the unit by tool, and drop the tool on the unit.
Take extra care;
.Never give vibration or shock to the unit while the power is turned on, or within about 30 seconds after
turning off the power.
.Be extremely careful when removing and/or installing the HDD unit, fan motor unit or power supply
unit while the unit is in live state.
*Cushion : Polyethylene foam (density: 38 kg/m3, surface intrinsic resistance : 1011 to 1012 Z, thickness: 50 mm) or equivalent.
Cautions about Rack Mounting the Unit
. Mount the unit into the rack with the HDD removed from the unit, because do not give shock to the HDD.
.Be sure to turn off the power of the rack mounted unit which has a live HDD.
Caution about Static Electricity
. Keep static-producing items such as plastics (air cap, packing material, etc.) away from the working area.
Cautions about Temperature and Humidity
.Temperature and humidity of storage and operating condition must be kept within the correct specified
range.
.Never turn on the power with the cabinet is removed in consideration of the air-cooling effect.
Cautions when an Error Appears in a HDD
.Treat this unit conform to the above cautions, even when an error appeared.
.Keep the unit in the condition in which the error appeared, and record the details of the error.

Keep the packing materials such as carton, cushion, etc.
after unpacking.
When transporting the unit, pack the unit using the materi-
als provided. Pack the HDDs separately.

1. Set the operating temperature and humidity
within the following conditions.
Operating Temperature : +5 dC to +40 dC
Operating humidity : 10 % to 90 %
(Condensation not allowed)
Storage temperature : _20 dC to +60 dC
2. Do not install this unit in the following
locations.
.Areas where the unit will be exposed to direct
sunlight or any other strong lights.
.Dusty areas or areas where the unit will be subject to
vibration.
.Areas with strong electric or magnetic fields.
.Areas near heat sources.
.Areas where the unit will be subjected to electrical
noise.
.Areas where the unit will be subjected to static
electricity noise.
.Unstable and unbalanced places.
3. To prevent the internal temperature from
rising, ensure air ventilation of the place
where the unit is installed.
The ventilating slots should be 20 cm away from the
walls for proper ventilation.

Do not block the ventilation slots.
If the ventilation slots are blocked, overheating inside the
unit may cause fire.

.The rear side of this unit should be 50 cm away from the walls considering serviceability such as option
board replacement.
.If the power is turned on with the cabinet is removed, the air-cooling effect of the fan will be greatly
reduced, damaging the HDD or its data. Avoid operating the unit with the cabinet is removed.

unit. Voltage within the range of 100 V to 240 V can be
used without changing the supply voltage.

1. The following options can be installed to this system.
.BKSH-236G (36GB HDD Unit)

2. To install the encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021/2025), install the encoder boards starting from slot
No. 1 in order.
.A maximum of three units of the BKSR-2020/2021 can be installed.
.A maximum of one BKSR-2025 can be installed.
3. After installing the encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021/2025), install the decoder boards (BKSR-
2030/2031/2035) starting from the top slot.
4. Inclusive of the encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021) and the decoder boards ( BKSR-2030/2031/2035) ,
a maximum of five boards can be installed. (Slot No. 6 cannot be used.)

If you have installed the BKSR-2025 already, a maximum of four boards can be installed. (The
BKSR-2025 occupies space of two slots.)
5. If any slot is left un-used, be sure to install the blank panel supplied to the un-used slot. (If blank
panel is not installed, cooling capacity of the fan decreases and the system may not work properly.)
6. For installation of the BKSR-2021/2025/2035/2090, refer to the Installation Manual supplied with
each optional board.
The unit is designed to memorize the configuration of the optional boards when the power is turned on for
the first time after shipment.
To change the configuration of the optional boards, change the setting using the supplied BZSR-2000
Trial version.
(For details, refer to the Operation Manual supplied with the CD-ROM of the BZSR-2000 Trial version.)

Before installing each option board, the default setting sometimes needs to be changed depending on the
operating conditions of the system. Change the setting according to the operating conditions while
referring to “2-6. Function of Switches/LEDs on Board” in this manual and “2-1. Description of Internal
Switches and Indicator” in the Installation Manual supplied with each option board.

General Information for Installation
.The BKSR-2020 can be attached into slot No. 1, No. 2
and No. 3 of the VSR-2000A.
.To prevent from wrong insertion when the board is
replaced, stick the slot label (supplied with BKSR-2020)
after inserting the board.
.To maintain the cooling effect of the VSR-2000A, do not
leave the slots open.
Be sure to attach the blank panel on the empty slot.
.Adjustments after installation/replacement of board are
not necessary.
Installation Procedure
1. Turn off the main power switch of the VSR-2000A.
2. Remove the two screws of the desired slot, and remove
the blank panel.

Keep the removed blank panel.
3. Insert the BKSR-2020 to the slot. Push the handle of
the board in the direction of installing, and insert it in
the mother board completely.
4. Fix the BKSR-2020 with the two screws that are used
to fix the blank panel.
5. Stick the slot label (supplied with the BKSR-2020) of
the inserted slot number.

To remove a board, hold the handle of the board and pull it
in the direction of removing and remove the board to the
front.

General Information for Installation
.The BKSR-2031 can be attached on the desired slot
except of the No. 6 slot of the VSR-2000A.
.To prevent from wrong insertion when the board is

Install the unit in a stable location.
If the unit is mounted on a unstable table or slant bench,
the unit can fall and result in physical injury.

Use the specified support angle.
If the parts other than the specified one are used, the unit
can fall and results in physical injury.
This unit can be mounted in a 19-inch standard rack of EIA
standard. To mount the unit in the rack use the specified
rack mount kits and parts.

Mount the unit in the rack with the HDD removed from the
unit.

1. Turn off the power of the rack mounted unit incorpo-
rating the HDD.
2. Remove the four screws at the both sides of the unit,
and remove the four foot-holder assemblies while
lifting up the unit.
3. Attach the two inner supports to the side panels of the
unit.
4. Loosen the four screws of the outer support assembly
to slide the brackets.

5. Secure the outer support assemblies to the rack tempo-
rarily.
6. Tighten all the screws loosened in step 4 and tempo-
rarily secured in step 5.
7. Mount the unit into the rack so that the inner support
angles are on the outer support angles.

Be sure to mount the unit with more than the two
persons to avoid back injuries and prevent the unit
from falling.
8. After the unit is mounted in the rack, fix the rack
angles onto the rack with ornamental washers and
screws supplied with the unit.

Secure the rack angles to the rack with the screws.
Otherwise the unit may slide and fall off, resulting in
injury.

To remove or to install the front panel assembly while the
main power is turned on, be sure to put on the earth-band
to ground the unit against electrostatic shock.
Removing/installing the front unit without earth-band
could cause wrong operation.
1. Loosen the four screws (with drop-safe) of the front
panel assembly.
2. While pressing the two panel brackets between the
ornamental panel and the front panel (B), remove the
front panel assembly.
3. Install the front panel assembly by reversing the
disassembling procedure.

.While installing the HDD unit, be sure to put on the
earth-band to ground the unit against electrostatic shock.
.Be sure to place the removed HDD unit on the cushion
gently.
.Place the HDD unit on the cushion with the CAUTION
label side down.
Procedure
1. Remove the front panel assembly (Refer to Section 1-7).
2. Insert the replaced HDD unit into the slot gently, and
push the levers in the direction of the arrows to lock
the HDD unit.

Install the HDD with its CAUTION label facing up.
3. Stick the label with the HDD No. corresponding to the
slot on the front.

Format the HDDs after the HDD unit has been in-
stalled (Refer to Section 1-13).
