On placement
Do not set the speakers in an inclined position.
Do not leave the system in alocation near heat sources, or in
aplace subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust, moisture,
rain
or mechanical shock.
Use
only the supplied AC power adaptor.
•
The unit is not disconnected from the AC power source
(mains) as long as it is
connected to the AC outlet, even if the
unit
itself has been turned off.
After operating the system with the AC power adaptor,
disconnect the AC power adaptor from the wall outlet if the
system is
not to be used for an extended period of time. Just
switching the C> button to standby does not tum the AC
power adaptor off.
Precautions
On safety
The dating code and the nameplate indicating Sony Trademark,
model number, and electrical rating are located on the bottom
exterior of this unit.
The dating code is only for the U.S.A. and Canada models.
Before operating the system,
be sure that the operating
voltage
of the system is identical with that of your local
power supply.

On operation
Do not open the cabinet. Refer servicing to qualified
personnel only.
Should any solid object or liquid fall into the system, have the
system checked by qualified personnel before operating it any
further.
•Although this system is magnetically shielded, do not leave
recorded tapes, watches. personal
credit cards, or Ooppy disks
with magnetic coding in front
of the system for an extended
period of time.
On cleaning
Do not use alcohol, benzine, or thinner to clean the cabinet.
If the TV picture or monitor display is
magnetically distorted
Although this system is magnetically shielded, there may be
cases that the picture on some TV sets/personal computer sets
may become magnetically distorted. In such acase, tum off the
power of the TV set/personal computer set once, and after 15 to
30 minutes tum it on again. For the personal computer set, take
the appropriate measures such as data storage before turning it
off.
When there seems to be no improvement, locate the system
funher away from the TV set/personal computer set.
Furthermore,
be sure not to place objects in which magnets are
attached or used near the TV set/personal computer set, such as
audio racks,
TV stands, toys etc. These may cause magnetic
distortion
to the picture due to their interaction with the system.

Connect the AC power adaptor to the system.
Notes on the AC power adaptor
Use only the supplied AC power adaptor. Do not use any
other AC power adaptor to avoid damaging the speaker.

Before connecting or disconnecting the AC power adaptor,
turn offthe system. Otherwise,
it may cause amalfunction.
Hooking up the speakers

1Connect the speakers and the source
device.
When the system is connected to the
monaural jack of the source device
The sound may not come through the right speaker. In such a
case, use the optional* plug adaptor PC-236MS.
To connect to a stereo phone-type
headphones jack
Use the optional* connecting cord RK-G22 or connecting cord
RK-G136 and plug adaptor PC-234S"
*The above optional accessories are not provided in some areas.
Installing a lithium battery
in the card remote
commander (See fig. OJI
1Take out the battery case.
2Insert an optional lithium battery CR2025
with the +side facing up.
3Place the battery case back In position.
When to replace the lithium battery
The working distance of the card remote commander shortens as
the battery becomes exhausted.
Replace the battery with anew one.
It will last about 6months
in normal.
Notes on the lithium battery
• Keep lhe lithium battery out of the reach ofchildren. Should the
battery
be swallowed, immediately consult adoctor.
•
Wipe the battery with a dry cloth to assure agood contact.
•
Be sure to install the baltery with the correct polarity.
•
Do not hold the battery with metallic tweezers as doing so may
cause ashan-circuit.
•
Use ofother batteries than the CR202S may cause arisk offire or
explosion.
WARNING
Battery may explode if mistreated. Do not recharge,
disassemble or dispose
of in fire.
Listening to the sound
1Press the <.'> button to turn on the unit.
The Q) indicator lights up.
2Start playing on the source device.
3Adjust the volume.
Set the volume of the source device to moderate level, and
press the VOL
+1- button on this unit.
"Q"Tlp
To silence the sound. press the 0:5.< button on the card remote
commander. To resume the sound, press
the button again.
Note
Abeep sounds when the volume is set to minimum or
maximum.
4Press the <.'> button to turn off the unit after
use.
The Q) indicator goes off.
Notes
• If both the device connected to the INPUT 1jack and the one
connected
10 the LNPUT 2jack are played at the same time, both
sounds
can be heard.
•Ifconnecting
the speaker to adevice with abuilt-in radio or tuner,
radio reception
may not occur or sensitivity may be reduced
significantly.
•If
the source device has a bass boost function or equalizer function,
set
them to off. If these functions are on, sound may be distorted.
•If the source device's headphone output
has aline switch, better
sound
will be heard if it is sel to on. See the operating instructions
of
the source device.

Troubleshooting
Should you have a problem with your speaker system, check the
following list
and take the suggested measures. If the problem
persists, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
No sound.
• Check that both this unit and the source device are turned on.
•
Turn up the volume of the unill
T-IIrn up the volume of the sourCe device as high as possible
to the extent that sound is not distorted. For details on volume
adjustment, refer to the operating instructions supplied with
the device.-
•
Make sure alJ'the.connections have been correctly made.
Low sound level.
• Turn up the volume of the source device as high as possible
to the extent that sound is not distorted.
For details on volume
adjustment, refer to the operating instructions supplied with
the device.
•
Turn up the volume of the unit.
Distorted sound.
• Turn down the volume of the source device to the point
where the sound is no longer distorted. For details on volume
adjustment, refer to the operating instructions supplied with
the device.
• If the source device has abass boosts function, set it to off.
•Turn down the volume of the unit.
There is hum or noise iii the speaker output.
• Make sure all the connections have been correctly made.
•
Make sure none of the audio devices are positioned too close
to a
TV set.
The brightness of the (9 indicator is
unstable.
The brightness of the (!) indicator may become unstable when
the volume is turned up. This is not amalfunction.
The battery cannot be inserted, or fits too
tightly
in the Card Remote Commander.
The battery is designed so as not be inserted in the wrong
direction. Confirm polarity (+1-) and insert correctly.
Card Remote Commander operation is not
possible.
Operate the card remote commander pointed toward the
remote sensor
of the speaker.
Remove any obstacle between the speaker and the card
remote commander.
Avoid exposing the remote sensor of the speaker to strong
light (direct sunlight
or fluorescent lamp of high frequency
lighting).
If the above remedies do not solve the problem, the battery
might be worn out. Replace it with anew one.

Consumer 1 Year Warranty
Sony of Canada Ltd. ("Sony") hereby warrants, subject to the terms and condi-
tions herein set forth, this product against defects in material and workman-
ship during the specified warranty period. In the event of a defect of material or
workmanship during the specified warranty period, Sony will repair the same,
effecting all necessary parts replacements with either new or refurbished parts,
without charge for either parts or labour.
The warranty period Is as follows:
Labour and Parts: ONE year from the date of original purchase at retail.
Conditions:
Unauthorized Modification, Repair, Abuse, Etc.:
This limited warranty is void if: (i) the unit has been previously altered, modi-
fied, installed or mounted for commercial use, or repaired or serviced byany-
one other than the service facilities authorized by Sony to render such ser-
vices, (Ii) the serial number on the unit has been altered or removed, or (iii) the
unit has been subject to accident, misuse, abuse or operated contrary to the
instructions contained in the Owner's Manual. The opinion of Sony with re-
spect to this matter shall be final.
Commercial Use or Rental:
This product is not intended for commercial use or rental. Should this unit be
used at any time for commercial purposes or as a rental unit, the limited war-
ranty period for parts and labour shall be 90 days from the date of original
purchase at retail. The opinion of Sony with respect to this matter shall be final.

This limited warranty does not extend to broken or damaged cabinets, acces-
sories, batteries, exposed antennas and styluses, or to parts wearing out due
-. to· normal wear and tear; This limIted warranty doeS" not -cover regular product
maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication or check-ups.
This limited warranty covers only the hardware components paCka~ed with the
product. It-does not cover technical assistance for hardware or software usage
and it does not cover any software products whether or not contained in the
product. Any such software is provided "AS IS" unless expressly provided for
in any enclosed software limited warranty. Please refer to the End User License
Agreements included with the product for your rights and obligations with re-
spect to the software.

Delivery:
The unit must be delivered in person to one of the nearest Sony service facili-
ties in Canada, or shipped, freight prepaid, in either its original package or
similar package affording an equal degree of protection and with instructions
indicating a location within Canada to which the unit may be returned. If shipped
to the service facility, the repaired unit will be returned to customer freight
prepaid. All accessories that are enclosed with the unit must be listed individu-
ally on the packing slip for the shipping documentation. Defective accessories
should be shipped to Sony as a separate repair item. Sony shall have no liabil-
ity whatsoever for loss or damage in transit of items shipped to service facili-
ties. Any parts replaced under this limited warranty will become the property of
Sony. It Is your responsibility to back up any data, software or other materi-
als you may have stored or preserved on your unit. It Is likely that such data,
software, or other materials will be lost or reformaOed during service and
Sony will not be responsible for any such damage or loss.
Proof of Purchase:
This limited warranty applies to the product from the original date of purchase
at retail. The owner must furnish proof of original purchase at retail.
