A DualDisc is a two sided disc product
which mates DVD recorded material on
one side with digital audio material on
the other side. However, since the audio
material side does not conform to the
Compact Disc (CD) standard, playback on
this product is not guaranteed.
Music discs encoded with copyright
protection technologies
is product is designed to playback
discs that conform to the Compact Disc
(CD) standard. Recently, various music
discs encoded with copyright protection
technologies are marketed by some
record companies. Please be aware that
among those discs, there are some that

Speakers
Press down on the tab below the jack on
the speaker and insert the appropriate
speaker cord. Make sure the metal
leads (not the part covered with vinyl
insulation) are securely inserted into the
speaker jacks. Insert the end of the cord
marked with a red line into the + jack
and the cord with no marking into the
jack.
Make sure to match the projections on
the SPEAKER jacks on the unit and the
speaker cords, and insert the cords rmly
to the SPEAKER jacks.
Power
Connect the power cord to a wall socket.
If the plug does not t the wall socket,
detach the supplied plug adaptor (only
for models equipped with an adaptor).
FM/AM antennas
Find a location and an orientation that
provide good reception, and then set up
the antenna.
Keep the antennas away from the speaker
cords, the power cord and the USB cable
to avoid picking up noise.
DMPORT (DIGITAL MEDIA PORT)
Connect the DIGITAL MEDIA PORT
adapter. You need to connect the
DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapter to an
optional audio device (portable audio
player, etc.).
Notes
Available DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapters
vary in each area.
Do not connect an adaptor other than the
DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapter.
Do not connect or disconnect the DIGITAL
MEDIA PORT adapter to/from the
DMPORT while the system is on.
When using a DIGITAL MEDIA PORT
adapter that has video output function,
connect the adaptor directly to the TV.
When carrying this system

Remove a disc to protect the CD
mechanism.

Press FUNCTION +/(or FUNCTION
on the unit) repeatedly to select
the CD function.

Hold down SEARCH on the unit,
and press on the unit until
“STANDBY” appears.

After “LOCK”appears, unplug the
power cord.
Speaker pads
Attach the supplied speaker pads to
the bottom of the speakers to prevent
slipping.

To use the remote
Slide and remove the battery
compartment lid , and insert the two
supplied R6 (size AA) batteries, side
rst, matching the polarities shown
below.
Notes
With normal use, the batteries should last for
about six months.
Do not mix an old battery with a new one or
mix dierent types of batteries.
If you do not use the remote for a long period
of time, remove the batteries to avoid damage
from battery leakage and corrosion.
Setting the clock
Use buttons on the remote to set the
clock.

Playing a CD/MP3 disc

Select the CD function.

a disc with the label side up on the
disc tray.
To close the disc tray, press on
the unit again.
Do not force the disc tray closed with
your nger, as this may damage the
unit.

Basic Operations
Compatibility with all MP3 encoding/writing
soware, recording device, and recording
media cannot be guaranteed. Incompatible
MP3 discs may produce noise or interrupted
audio or may not play at all.
Notes on playing multisession discs
If the disc begins with a CD-DA (or MP3)
session, it is recognized as a CD-DA (or
MP3) disc, and other sessions are not played
back.
A disc with a mixed CD format is recognized
as a CD-DA (audio) disc.
To change the play mode
Press PLAY MODE repeatedly while
the player is stopped. You can select
normal play (“ *” for all MP3 les
in the folder on the disc), shue play
(“SHUF” or “ SHUF*”), or program
play (“PGM”).
* When playing a CD-DA disc, (SHUF)
Play performs the same operation as normal
(shue) play.
Notes on Repeat Play
All tracks or les on a disc are played
repeatedly up to ve times.
“REP1” indicates that a single track or le is
repeated until you stop it.
Notes on playing MP3 discs
Do not save other types of les or
unnecessary folders on a disc that has MP3
les.
Folders that have no MP3 les are skipped.
MP3 les are played back in the order that
they are recorded onto the disc.
e system can only play MP3 les that have
a le extension of “.MP3”.
If there are les on the disc that have the
“.MP3” le extension, but that are not MP3
les, the unit may produce noise or may
malfunction.
e maximum number of:
folders is 255 (including the root folder).
MP3 les is 511.
MP3 les and folders that can be
contained on a single disc is 512.

Select “TUNER FM” or “TUNER
AM.”
Press FUNCTION +/(or TUNER/
BAND on the unit) repeatedly.

Select the tuning mode.
Press TUNING MODE repeatedly
until “AUTO” appears.

Tune in the desired station.
Press +/(or TUNE +/on
the unit) . Scanning stops
automatically when a station is tuned
in, and then “TUNED” and “ST” (for
stereo programs only) appear.
When you tune in a station that
provides RDS services, the station
name appears on the display.

Adjust the volume.
Press VOLUME +/(or turn the
VOLUME control on the unit) .
To stop automatic scanning

To tune in a station with a weak signal
If “TUNED” does not appear and the
scanning does not stop, press TUNING
MODE repeatedly until “AUTO” and
“PRESET” disappear, and then press
+/(or TUNE +/on the unit)
repeatedly to tune in the desired station.
To reduce static noise on a weak FM
stereo station
Press FM MODE repeatedly until
“MONO” appears to turn o stereo
reception.

Transferring music
from a disc to an USB
device
You can connect an optional USB device
to the (USB) port on the unit and
transfer music from a disc to the USB
device.
You can transfer music from a CD-DA
disc or MP3 disc only.
e audio format of les transferred by
this system is MP3.
e amount of free space required on the
USB device is about 1 MB per minute
when transferring music from a CD.
Required free space may be larger when
transferring music from an MP3 disc.
Check the information on the websites
about compatible USB devices that can
be connected to this system (page 39).
Synchronized transfer
(SYNC REC)
You can easily transfer all the music on a
disc to an USB device.

Connect an USB device to the
(USB) port as shown
below.
When USB cable connection is
necessary, connect the USB cable
supplied with the USB device to be
connected.
See the operation manual supplied
with the USB device to be connected
for details on the operation method.

which memory to read to and then start
transferring.

Folder and le generation rules
When rst transferring music to an USB
device, a “MUSIC” folder is created
directly below the “ROOT.” Folders and
les are generated within this “MUSIC”
folder as follows.

1) In Program Play mode, the folder name is
“PGM_xxx,” and the le name depends on
the music source (CD-DA disc or MP3 disc).
2) Up to 32 characters of the name are assigned.
3) Folder numbers are assigned serially
thereaer up to the maximum 999 (including
the “ROOT” and “MUSIC” folders).
4) File numbers are assigned serially thereaer.
5) A new le is created in the “REC1” folder
each time REC1 is performed.
Notes
Do not remove the USB device during
transfer or erase operations. Doing so may
corrupt the data on the USB device or
damage the USB device itself.
Do not connect the system and the USB
device through an USB hub.
When transferring music from a CD, the
tracks are transferred as 128 kbps MP3 les.
When transferring music from an MP3 disc,
MP3 les are transferred with the same bit
rate as the original MP3 les.
While transferring music from an MP3
disc, no sound is output and “High Speed”
appears.
CD text information is not transferred in the
created MP3 les.
If you cancel the transfer partway, an MP3
le is created up to the point when the
transfer was stopped.
Transferring stops automatically if:
the USB device runs out of space during
the transfer process.
the number of audio les on the USB
device reaches the limit for the number
that the system can recognize.
e maximum number of audio les and
folders that can be contained on a single USB
device is 999 (including the “ROOT” and
“MUSIC” folders).
e maximum number of audio les and
folders may vary depending on the audio le
and folder structure.
