IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or injury, always follow
these basic safety precautions when using your cordless
telephone equipment.

Do not dispose of the BATTERY PACK in a fire. It may explode. Check
with local codes for possible special disposal instructions.
Do not open or mutilate the BATTERY PACK. Released electrolyte from
a battery is corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin.
Electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.
Exercise care in handling the BATTERY PACK to prevent shorting the
battery with conductive materials such as rings, bracelets and keys.
The BATTERY PACK or conductor may overheat and cause burns.
Charge the BATTERY PACK provided with (or identified for use with)
this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitations
specified in this manual.

If the telephone exhibits a distinct change in performance.
Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type) during an
electrical storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock from
lightning.
Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.
Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is
specifically designed for wet locations.
Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the
telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
Read and understand all instructions.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the telephone.
Unplug this telephone from the wall outlet before cleaning or replacing
batteries. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners on this product.
Use a damp cloth for cleaning or if necessary, use only a mild soap.
Do not use this telephone near a bathtub, kitchen sink, wash bowl, laundry
tub, swimming pool, in a wet basement, or anywhere else where there is
water.
Do not place this telephone on an unstable cart, stand or table. Incorrect
placement of the phone could result in a fall causing serious damage to
the phone.
This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat
register. This product should not be placed in a built-in installation unless
proper ventilation is provided.
Operate this telephone only with the correct electrical voltage shown on
the marking label located on the BASE UNIT or in the Owner's Manual. If
you are not sure of the voltage in your home, consult your dealer or local
power company.
Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not install the phone
where people will walk on the cord.
Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords, since overloading can
increase the risk of fire or electric shock.
Never push objects of any kind through slots in the phone. They could
touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a risk
of fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the telephone.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not take this telephone apart.
When service or repair work is required on this telephone, take it to a
qualified service representative. Opening or removing covers may expose
you to dangerous voltage or other risks. Incorrect re-assembly can cause
electric shock when the appliance is used.
Unplug this telephone from the wall outlet and consult a qualified service
representative in any of the following situations:
When the power supply cord is frayed or damaged.
If liquid has been spilled into the telephone.
If the telephone has been exposed to rain or water.
If the telephone does not operate normally by following the operating
instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage

Insert the small plug on the end of the AC ADAPTOR into the POWER-IN
CONNECTION JACK on the back of the BASE UNIT.
Plug the AC ADAPTOR into a 120VAC wall outlet.
Insert one plug of the TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the house TELEPHONE
JACK and the other plug into the TELEPHONE LINE CONNECTION JACK on
the back of the BASE UNIT. (If you have an older 4-prong TELEPHONE JACK,
you will need an RJ-11C TELEPHONE JACK ADAPTOR. This adaptor is
available at the same place you purchased your telephone.)
We recommend not placing this unit next to appliances. Doing so may cause
interference.
TONE/PULSE Select Switch:
If your home is equipped with a tone dialing system, set the TONE/PULSE
select switch to the TONE position.
If you have a rotary dialing system, set the TONE/PULSE select switch to
the PULSE position.
If you are unsure which system you have, set the TONE/PULSE select
switch to the TONE position. Press the TALK button on the HANDSET to
get a dial tone, and press any button on the keypad except the zero. If the
dial tone continues, you do not have tone dialing service. Press the TALK
button on the HANDSET to hang up. Ser the TONE/PULSE select switch
to the PULSE mode and try again.
Press the TALK button to confirm that you have a dial tone. If you do not get
a dial tone, review steps 1 through 5. If you still do not have a dial tone, refer
to the Problem Solving section on page 12.
Before initial use, charge the HANDSET for 12 hours.
You are now ready to use your new Cordless Telephone.

Before you can use your cordless telephone, you must charge the
HANDSET for 12 hours. Failure to do so will require recharging of the
BATTERY PACK more often.
Place the HANDSET on the BASE UNIT for 12 hours.
After 12 hours, remove the HANDSET from the BASE UNIT.
When the phone rings, lift the HANDSET. The IN USE indicator will light.
(Note: The HANDSET RINGER Switch must be in the "ON" position for
ringer to operate.)
Start your conversation.
To end your conversation, either press the TALK button or place the
HANDSET on the BASE UNIT. If you place the HANDSET on the BASE
UNIT charge cradle, you activate the automatic STANDBY feature.
When the phone rings, press the any button to answer the call. The IN
USE indicator will light.
Start your conversation.
To end your conversation, either press the TALK button or place the
HANDSET on the BASE UNIT. If the HANDSET is placed on the BASE
UNIT charge cradle, the automatic STANDBY feature is then activated.
Press the TALK button. The IN USE indicator will light up.
Listen for a dial tone.
Dial the phone number.
When finished with your call, press the TALK button again. The IN USE
indicator will turn off.
If you get a busy tone, press the TALK button to hang up.
Press the TALK button again.
Listen for a dial tone.
Press the REDIAL button. This will automatically redial the last telephone
number called.
Be sure the BASE UNIT IN USE indicator is off and the HANDSET is in
STANDBY mode.
Press the MEM button.
Dial the number you want to store.
Press the MEM button again.
Dial the index number (0-9) where you want to store that number.
You will hear one confirmation "beep".
Write the name of the person you will be calling with that number next to
the corresponding index number on the Telephone Number Label.
Repeat steps 1 through 6 for other telephone numbers. EXAMPLE: To
store the number 555-1212 under the index number 1 on the keypad:
The maximum number of digits that can be stored for any
phone number is 16 in PULSE or TONE mode. The maximum number of
digits for mixed (TONE and PULSE in combination) dialing is 15. If you are
using a switchboard system to access an outside line (such as needing to
press an 8 or 9 before dialing the number), press the RE/PA button to store
a PAUSE.
Press the TALK button.
Press the MEM button.
Press the index number for the number you have stored. The stored
number will be dialed automatically.

Using the Headset Jack
The GH2400C cordless telephone automatically searches and selects the
clearest channel when it is being used.
This telephone has an internal security code with 65,536 possible
combinations. Each time handset back to the base unit, the code is randomly
set to a new combination.
Communication between HANDSET and BASE UNIT may not be possible in
any of the following situations:
1. After a power failure.
2. After relocating the BASE UNIT by disconnecting the AC ADAPTOR.
3. After replacing the HANDSET BATTERY PACK.
To reset, place the HANDSET on the BASE UNIT for 2 to 5 seconds.
If you are too far away from the BASE UNIT, the HANDSET emits "beep"
sounds to warn you that the background noise level is too high for proper
communication between the HANDSET and the BASE UNIT. When you hear
this sound, you should move closer to the BASE UNIT to reduce the noise level.
Otherwise, the call will automatically cut off.
Your telephone can utilize a headset (not included) to be connected to your
HANDSET for you to enjoy a hands-free communication. When you plug in the
headset plug into the HEADSET JACK, it automatically mutes the microphone
and speaker of the HANDSET. Unplug the headset to return the HANDSET to

When the BATT LOW indicator starts to blink, a "beep" sound will be heard
every 5 seconds. This indicates that the BATTERY PACK needs to be
recharged. Charge the battery pack at least once every 90 day of non-use to
avoid battery failure. When the BATTERY PACK can no longer be charged,
replacement of the BATTERY PACK will be necessary.
To maximize your battery's life, we recommend that you periodically fully
discharge the battery, and then recharge it. To do this, unplug your phone line
cord from the wall phone jack. Press the TALK button, and allow the handset
to remain on for 10 to 12 hours. Reconnect the phone cord to the wall phone
jack return the handset to the base and allow it to fully charge for 12 hours. If
this process is completed monthly, it will reduce the memory buildup that
occurs from frequent partial charging.

This cordless telephone uses radio frequencies to allow mobility. There are
certain difficulties in using radio frequencies with a cordless telephone. While
these are normal, the following could affect the operation of your system.
Electrical pulse noise is present in most homes at one time or another. This
noise is most intense during electrical storms. Certain kinds of electrical
equipment such as light dimmers, fluorescent bulbs, motors, and fans also
generate noise pulses. Because radio frequencies are susceptible to these
noise pulses, you may occasionally hear them in your HANDSET. Generally
they are a minor annoyance and should bot be interpreted as a defect in your
system.
Because radio frequency is used, the location of the BASE UNIT can affect
operating range. Try several locations in your home or business and pick the
one that gives you the clearest signal to the HANDSET.
Electronic circuits activate a relay to connect the cordless telephone to your
telephone line. These electronic circuits operate in the radio frequency
spectrum. While several protection circuits are used to prevent unwanted
signals, there may be periods when these unwanted signals enter the BASE
UNIT. You may hear clicks or hear the relay activate while you are not using the
HANDSET. If the interference occurs frequently, it can be minimized or
eliminated by lowering the height of your BASE UNIT ANTENNA or by
relocating the BASE UNIT . You can check for interference before selecting the
final BASE UNIT location by plugging in the phone.
This cordless telephone uses radio communication between the HANDSET
and the BASE UNIT and may not ensure privacy of communication. Other
devices, including other cordless telephones, may interference with the
operation of this cordless telephone or cause noise during operation. Units not
containing coded access may be accessed by other radio communication
systems. Cordless telephones must not cause interference to any licensed
radio service.

This equipment complies with Part 68 of FCC Rules and ACTA technical
requirements. A label on the BASE UNIT of this equipment contains, among
other information, the Registration Number and the Ringer Equivalence
Number (REN) for this equipment. You must, upon request, provide this
information to your telephone company.
The REN is also useful in determining the quantity of devices that you may
connect to your telephone line and still allow these devices to ring when your
telephone number is called. In most areas, but not all, the sum of the RENs for
all device connected to one line should not exceed five (5.0) . To be certain of
the number of devices that you may connect to your line, you should contact
your local telephone company.
If your equipment should cause harm to the telephone network, the telephone
company may temporarily disconnect your service. If possible, they will notify
you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required.
However, when advanced written notice is not possible, the telephone
company may temporarily discontinue service without notice if such action is
necessary under the circumstances. The telephone company may make
changes in its communication facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures
where such action is reasonably required in the operation of its business and is
not inconsistent with the rules and regulations of te Federal Communications
Commission.
Changes or modificat ons not expressly approved by the party
responsible for its compliance could void the user's authority to op rate the
equipment.
Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies that may cause
interference to nearby TVs and VCRs. To minimize or prevent such
interference, the BASE UNIT of the cordless telephone should not be placed on
or near a TV or VCR. If interference is experienced, moving the ordless
telephone farther away from the TV or VCR will often reduce or e minate the
interference.
This equipment should not be used on coin telephone lines. Connection to
party line service is subject to state tariffs. If trouble is experienced, disconnect
this equipment from the telephone line to determine if it is causing the
malfunction. If the equipment is determined to be malfunctioning, its use
should be discontinued until the problem has been corrected.

This Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone is warranted to the original purchaser to be free
from defects in materials and workmanship under normal installation, use and service for a
period of one (1) year from the date of purchase as shown on the purchaser's receipt.
The obligation of Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone Retail Sales under this warranty
shall be limited to repair or replacement (at our option) during the warranty period of any
part which proves defective in material or workmanship under normal installation, use and
service, provided the product is returned to Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone Retail
Sales TRANSPORTATION CHARGES PREPAID (California residents call 1-800-366-0937
for shipping instructions). If we choose to replace your Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone
product, the replacement will be warranted for either (a) 90 days or (b) the remainder of the
original one year warranty period, whichever is longer. Battery packs are warranted for the
same time period.
Products returned to us must be accompanied by a copy of the purchase receipt. In the
absence of such purchase receipt, the warranty period shall be one (1) year from the date
of manufacture. To obtain service under this warranty, return the defective product to the
service center nearest you together with your sales slip and $9.50 for postage and
handling (California residents need only provide proof of purchase).
This warranty shall be invalid if the product is damaged as a result of defacement, misuse,
abuse, neglect, accident, destruction, or alteration of the serial number, improper
electrical voltages or currents, repair alteration or maintenance by any person or party
other than our own service facility or an authorized Service Center, or any violation of
instructions furnished by us.
This warranty is also rendered invalid if this product is removed from the country in which it
was purchased, if it is used in a country in which it is not registered for use, or if it is used in
a country for which it was not designed. Due to variations in telephone systems and
communications laws, this product may be illegal for use in some countries. Southwestern
Bell Freedom Phone Retail Sales assumes no responsibility for damages or penalties
incurred resulting from the use of this product in a manner or location other than that from
which it is intended.
This one-year limited warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties, obligations, or
liabilities.
ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, OBLIGATIONS, OR LIABILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT
