WELCOME
Purchasing SPOT HUG was the first step in helping protect your boat from theft and to ensure peace-of-mind. HUG uses advanced satellite communications technologies to monitor
your vessel and notify the appropriate parties if there is a problem.
By establishing a virtual security perimeter around your boat, HUG will detect any Unauthorized Movement and alert the Asset Monitoring Center of your boat’s most current location.
The Asset Monitoring Center can quickly notify you of the activity and work with local law enforcement agencies (where available) for a speedy recovery.
HUG can also monitor multiple sensors detecting an issue with your boat’s battery, high water, smoke and fire, motion and door/hatch security. Sensor Alert notification will be sent
to you via email and/or SMS text on your phone.
Established SPOT technology provides peace-of-mind for your and your loved ones back home. HUG comes equipped with full SPOT Messaging functionality providing reliable,
location-based messaging via satellite even when other forms of communication are not available.
Backed by 100% satellite technology, HUG is your boat’s new GPS security system - securing what is valuable on the water and off.

1. THE COMPONENTS
*To insert batteries, simply remove the screws on the back of each
component for access to the battery compartment.
When replacing back cover, tighten screws with min-screwdriver provided
to ensure waterproofness. Do not over-tighten or plastic may damage.

2. HOW SPOT HUG WORKS
1. GPS satellites provide signals.
2. SPOT HUG Tracker’s onboard GPS chip determines the asset’s GPS location and
sends the location information to communication satellites.
3. Communication satellites relay your message to specific satellite antennas around
the world.
4. Satellite antennas and a global network route your location and message to the
appropriate network.
5. Your location and messages are delivered according to your instructions via email,
text message, or emergency notification to the GEOS International Emergency
Response Coordination Center (IERCC).
HOW UNAUTHORIZED MOVEMENT WORKS
1. Tracker detects boat vibrations, waking up GPS in the SPOT HUG Tracker Unit.
2. Tracker’s onboard GPS chip determines the asset’s GPS location.
3. Checks for Key FOB presence.
4. If no FOB is present and the Tracker has not been manually disarmed via the Keypad and
the boat moves more than 500 meters from the original GPS position, an alert is sent to
the Asset Monitoring Center.
5. Asset Monitoring Center will notify you of Unauthorized Movement and work with the
authorities when available.

4. PRE-INSTALLATION/SYSTEM TEST
Before installing the Tracker and Keypad in their permanent locations, it is necessary
to do the following:
•Activate SPOT HUG account at www.findmeSPOT.com (see 3. Service Activation)
•Install batteries in each component to ensure power functionality
•Change factory default PIN (Tracker comes paired with Keypad and Key FOB)
•Test Keypad
•Test Key FOB
•Set Tracker vibration sensitivity
Once you’ve activated SPOT HUG online, follow these important steps:
1. Set all three units together side by side for easy viewing (Tracker, Keypad and Key FOB.)
Ensure SPOT logo on Tracker is horizontal and facing up with an unobstructed view of the sky
to acquire a GPS signal.
2. Install batteries in each unit. (Write down the Authentication Code located inside the Tracker
battery compartment; this will be needed to change the PIN.) The Tracker, Keypad and Key
FOB will perform a self-test on battery power, GPS receiver and satellite transmitter.
The ON/OFF LED light will blink green if the unit passes the self-test.
3. IMPORTANT: The Factory Default PIN must be changed before attempting to use any functions
of SPOT HUG. Press any button and notice the Keypad and Key FOB LED lights blink in a red
circular pattern indicating you must set up a new PIN (Personal Identification Number).
3. SERVICE ACTIVATION
What you Need to Activate Your Account Online:
- Personal information
- Emergency contact information
- SMS (Text) and e-mail contacts for messaging. Note: Customers activating service in
North America will need to know the cellular service carrier of each contact that is
entered in Message Profiles (E.g. ATT, Verizon, Rogers, etc.)
- Credit card information
- Tracker ESN and Authentication code (These numbers are found inside of the Tracker
battery compartment)
- Details of property to be monitored

CHANGE DEFAULT PIN PROCEDURE
•The factory PIN is the last 4 digits of the Authentication Code. This is located inside the
Tracker battery compartment.
•Ensure the Key FOB and Keypad are near the Tracker when changing PIN.
Step 1. On the Keypad:
•Enter: 04
•Quick press: Check-in/OK
•Enter: Default PIN (Last 4 digits of the Authentication Code)
•Quick press: Check-in/OK
•Enter: New PIN (Must be exactly 4 digits)
•Quick press: Check-in/OK
•Re-enter: New PIN again
•Quick press: Check-in/OK again
Step 2. Immediately after the Keypad procedure above do the following on the Key FOB:
•Quick press: Check-in/OK
(This is important to ensure all components are paired with your new PIN)
The Tracker Range LED on the Key FOB should blink. It may blink red at first and then
green to indicate that the Tracker recognizes the Key FOB. See Section 7 and Quick
Reference Card for instructions. Record your new PIN for future reference.
4. Keypad Test: Now that the PIN has been reset, test the Keypad by sending a Check-in/OK
message to ensure Tracker GPS and message functionality.
•Press and hold the Check-in/OK button on the Keypad until you hear an audio beep
(approx. 3 seconds).
•The Tracker GPS LED will blink for up to 4 minutes while it acquires a GPS fix. (Make sure the
Tracker still has a clear view of the sky.) If a GPS signal cannot be acquired, the GPS LED on
the Tracker will blink red. Move to a better location where the view to the sky is unobstructed.
To check status of the message using the Keypad, quick press the Check-in/OK button. (LED
activity times out after 1 minute.) If the Message Sending LED on the Keypad starts blinking
red before a good location is found, remove and re-install batteries in the Tracker and repeat
the test.
•Verify that your Check-in/OK message is received by checking email, SMS text or your SPOT
account. The message may take up to 25 minutes to arrive. The Keypad Message Sending light
will blink until the message has sent.
•If all three LEDs (Power, GPS and SOS) blink red on the Tracker, the self-test failed. Please
contact Customer Service at 1-866-OK1-SPOT (1-866-651-7768)
5. Key FOB Test: Similar to the Keypad Test to ensure wireless connectivity to the Tracker.
•When the lights on the FOB device stop blinking after the PIN reset, give the Check-in/OK
button a quick press on the FOB.
•The Tracker Range LED will blink green for 1 minute if a connection with the FOB is made. The
Tracker Tracker Range LED blinks red every 3 seconds for 1 minute if NO connection is made.
In this case, move the FOB closer to the Tracker and try again.
6. Set Tracker Vibration Sensitivity: This setting allows the Tracker to measure the vibrations
made by vessel movement.
•There are 3 setting options:
1 – High (ideal for a large boat 30’ or larger or trailered.)
2 – Medium
3 – Low (Ideal for boat less than 30’)
Factory setting is Medium.
•To set the Vibration Sensitivity see page Keypad Programming Overview in section 7.

UNAUTHORIZED MOVEMENT MONITORING
•By establishing a virtual security perimeter around your boat SPOT HUG detects Unauthorized
Movement. When this occurs, a notification with your boat’s GPS position is automatically
sent to the Asset Monitoring Center who will immediately contact you or the registered SPOT
HUG owner about the incident. You will be requested to verify details and may need to
file a report with local law enforcement if desired. The Asset Monitoring Center can assist
that agency with updated information to help recover your asset.
•HUG monitors Key FOB presence to automatically arm and disarm the Unauthorized
Movement alert. If there are no paired FOBs within the Tracker range (60ft/18m), HUG will be
automatically armed until a paired FOB is found to be within range or is manually disarmed
using the keypad.
Note: You are responsible for disarming all false Unauthorized Movement alerts. In some
circumstances you may be notified prior to service suspension if you can’t disarm false alerts.
SENSOR ALERTS
•SPOT HUG can accommodate up to 4 sensors for alert monitoring. Battery voltage, high
water, smoke/fire, motion and door open sensors are examples that can be connected to
the Sensor Alert output wires to notify HUG contacts if there is an alert situation. Additional
fees apply.
DAILY STATUS MESSAGE
•A Daily Status Message is sent to the user every 24 hours via SMS and/or email. The Daily
Status Message includes Tracker ESN (or assigned name), power source status, Tracker low
battery status, Sensor Alert status, Vibration setting status, GPS location*, date and time
and a link to Google Maps™.
*Having the Daily Status Message deliver the boat’s GPS position is the default setting.
You can change this setting using the Keypad if you desire.

CHECK-IN/OK
HELP
TRACK PROGRESS

1.
Locate a place where the Tracker
is hidden from normal view and
under RF transparent materials (i.e.
fiberglass) placed away from metal
objects or other wi-fi or RF devices.
Mount at least 12 inches away from
other GPS and electronic devices.
Arrow logo on side of Tracker should
be pointing to the sky. Because
Tracker has an SOS button, you
may consider mounting Tracker in
an accessible area. Tracker can
be powered via line connection to
boat’s 12-24 volt battery or by using
supplied AA Lithium batteries.
2.
Use the included double sided
adhesive tape to temporarily affix
the Tracker mounting bracket to
the chosen surface. The mounting
bracket may be mounted in any
position as long as the SPOT HUG
logo on the Tracker is facing toward
the sky when inserted. Slide the
Tracker into the mounting bracket.
3.
Test the Tracker to ensure it can
receive GPS signals and transmit
messages from the selected location
by pressing the “Check-in/OK”
button and holding the “Check-in/
OK” button for approx 3 seconds
until LED blinks green on either the
Key FOB or Keypad. If successful the
message will be sent to the desired
chosen location, such as an SMS to
your mobile phone. If unsuccessful
choose an alternate location.
4.
You can now permanently install the
Tracker mounting bracket.
The mounting bracket may be
mounted in any position as long as
the SPOT HUG logo is facing toward
the sky. We have provided 4 #6
screws for easy installation.
5.
Locate a place where the Keypad
device can be mounted inside the
cabin or an alternately safe place on
the vessel. The Keypad needs to be
within 60ft/18 meters line of sight of
the Tracker. It is recommended the
Keypad unit be placed in a sheltered
environment from weather elements
or extreme temperature. Check
Tracker Range by a quick press of
the Check-in/OK button. Range LED
on Keypad should blink green. Follow
the same procedures listed in steps
2-4 to affix the Keypad mounting
bracket. We have provided 4 #6
screws for easy installation.
6. INSTALL OVERVIEW
NOTE: Be sure you have completed the Pre-installation/System Test prior to installation. See section in Quick Start Guide.
SPOT HUG can be installed by a qualified marine electronics installer or by the individual user.
Setup, test and installation should take about 1 hour.
