Introduction
The StarTech.com 1.8” USB 2.0 to Micro SATA external hard drive
enclosure allows you to turn a 1.8” Micro SATA hard drive or SSD into a
portable external storage solution. Connected through USB 2.0, this sturdy
yet lightweight enclosure offers a cost-effective way to create an ultra
portable storage solution that is powered by USB, eliminating the need for
additional power adapters.

Installation
WARNING: Hard drives require careful handling, especially when being
transported. If you are not careful with your hard disk, lost data may result.
Always handle your hard drive and storage device with caution.
Hardware Installation
Remove the small screw from the rear panel of the enclosure.1.
Open the top panel of the enclosure by pulling the plastic pull tab.2.

If using a 5mm drive, place the two foam pads on the bottom of the drive3.
tray. The foam pads are not required if using an 8mm drive.
Place the drive into the tray and then slide the drive onto the connector.4.
Replace the top cover. The plastic pull tab may be removed, if desired.5.
Replace the screw in the rear panel.6.
Connect the USB cable from the enclosure to the computer system.7.
Driver Installation
No driver installation is required for any operating system that supports
USB, as this enclosure uses native drivers that are already installed.

Using the Enclosure
Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003Vista/Server 2008 R2/7
If you are using a brand new hard drive that does not contain any data,
then you will first need to prepare the hard drive for use. From the main
desktop, right-click on “My Computer” (“Computer” in Vista/7), then
select Manage. In the new Computer Management window, select Disk
Management from the left window panel.
Locate the Disk that says it is “Unallocated” (check hard drive capacity to
confirm it’s the correct hard drive) and then right-click in the section that
says “Unallocated” and select “New Partition”.

The New Partition Wizard will appear. Follow the instructions in the wizard
to complete setting up the drive. Once complete, the Disk should show up
as “Healthy” with a drive letter assigned (i.e. E:). This drive letter should
now appear within My Computer.
If you are installing a hard drive that already has data on it, then after
plugging it in, the drive should automatically show up with a drive letter
assigned within My Computer.
