3. OPERATION WolfPac 2500
3.1 INTRODUCTION & OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Congratulations on your purchase of the WolfPac 2500! You've made an excellent choice! The WolfPac 2500 is
ergonomically engineered to optimize operator interface with the total machine--it's really "user friendly". Besides
good visibility to the roll-edge as well as the work surface, you'll find that the controls are exactly in the right places
for maximum comfort.
The roller is designed to give you high productivity at a low cost. High compaction force is obtained by the line
contact the drum makes with the surface to be compacted. A two inch wide contact area over the length of the
drum, produces more than ten times the unit area pressure than that of a ten thousand pound eccentric force
vibratory plate compactor.
This product is completely hydrostatically controlled. The variable flow pump delivers oil to the fixed
displacement motor which in turn drives the rear drum via a chain. Movement of the forward reverse lever
allows infinitely variable speed in both the forward and reverse direction. The feathering characteristics of the
pump eliminates scuffing and or tearing of the asphalt mat when changing direction.
There is power steering--a feature no operator wants to be without. This eliminates the hard steering and erratic
movement that an operator experiences with no power steering units.
A 30-gallon polyethylene water tank provides long running time between refills. A water level sight gauge, visible
from the operator's compartment, can be monitored during actual operation. The low maintenance, gravity flow
sprinkler system features dual controls and noncorrosive sprinkler bars. For spreading the water and cleaning the
drums, there are cocoa mats and scrapers.
Upon receipt of your WP2500, carefully check for any freight damage. Any damage should be immediately reported
to the carrier and a claim registered.
The roller is manufactured to the strictest specifications and inspection procedures. If any material or manufacturing
defects are found, return the tag on the machine with assembler's signature and your findings to the manufacturer.
We want to know when a product is less than perfect. We also welcome any and all input on how the product may
serve you better.
The following instructions were compiled to provide you information on how to obtain long and trouble free use of
the roller. Periodic maintenance of the roller is essential. Read the manual in its entirety and follow the instructions
carefully. Failure to do so may injure yourself or a bystander.

3. OPERATION WolfPac 2500
3.2 FUEL AND OIL
DO NOT MIX OIL WITH FUEL. The engine has a
separate oil reservoir in the crankcase. Unleaded
gasoline is recommended for use in the engine since it
leaves less combustion chamber deposits.
FUEL IS BOTH TOXIC AND FLAMMABLE.
DO NOT SMOKE WHILE WORKING WITH
FUEL. DO NOT USE NEAR OPEN FLAME.
ALWAYS STOP ENGINE BEFORE REFUELING.
CLEAN UP SPILLED FUEL BEFORE STARING.
AVOID FIRES BY KEEPING ENGINE CLEAN
OF ACCUMULATED GREASE AND DEBRIS.
START, STORE AND REFUEL ON LEVEL
GROUND TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY.
DO NOT RUN UNIT IN AN ENCLOSED, NON
VENTILATED AREA. AVOID PROLONGED
BREATHING OF VAPORS AND SKIN CONTACT.
SERIOUS ILLNESS OR LOSS OF LIFE COULD
RESULT.
Keep the vent hole in fuel tank cap open. If vent hole
is plugged, pressure may build up in tank, causing
carburetor flooding or dangerous spraying of gasoline
when tank cap is removed. A vacuum may also be
created during operation which could stop fuel flow.
3.2.1 Gasoline Fuel
Always use fresh, unleaded gasoline (86 octane min.).
Fresh gasoline is blended for the season and reduces
gum deposits which could clog the fuel system. Do not
use gasoline left over from the previous season.
Refer to the Engine Manual for break in.
3.2.2 Engine Oil
SAE 10W-30 API SH or SJ (oil with "starburst"
certification mark) is recommended for general, all
temperature use. Check daily for proper oil level. DO
NOT OVERFILL.
ENGINE IS EQUIPPED WITH LOW OIL SHUT
DOWN. ROLLER WILL SHUT DOWN IF
ENGINE OIL IS LOW.
3.2.3 Hydraulic Oil
Check the hydraulic fluid level in the expansion tank,
lift seat from back and remove breather (1 - 1 16
wrench). Use an oil stick to measure the amount of oil
in expansion tank. Oil should measure 1 - 1 2" to 2"
from top.
For satisfactory operation, the following fluid
conditions apply:
Accurate level readings can be checked only
when the fluid is cold.
If the natural color of the fluid has become
black or milky, it is possible that an
overheating or water contaminant problem
exists.
Do not mix hydraulic fluids. Mobil 424 is
recommended for the hydraulic system.
CAUTION: After a new unit has run 5 hours, the oil
filter should be changed. This is to rid the system of
any trapped contamination from the wear-in of the
parts, see maintenance.
NEVER RUN THE ROLLER WITHOUT THE
PANELS IN PLACE OR SEVERE PERSONAL
INJURY MAY OCCUR.
3.3 BEFORE STARTING
1. Check engine oil for proper level.
2. Check air cleaner.
3. Check the fuel level and turn the fuel valve to
the on position.
4. Check the hydraulic fluid level.

operation.
3.4 TO START
1. Operator must always be seated when roller is
running.
2. Move forward reverse lever into neutral
position and apply brake.
3. Set throttle at 1 2 speed.
4. Apply choke.
5. Turn key clockwise until the engine cranks
over. Release the key when the engine starts.
DO NOT crank engine for more than five
seconds at a time.
6. Follow Manufacturer's break-in procedure on
engine. Always allow engine to warm up five
minutes before applying load.
NOTE: The Oil Alert System will automatically stop
the engine before the oil level falls below the safe limit.
However, to avoid the inconvenience of an unexpected
shutdown, it is advisable to visually inspect the oil
level regularly.
3.5 TO STOP
ALWAYS OBEY THE FOLLOWING
PROCEDURES BEFORE DISMOUNTING
FROM THE ROLLER.
1. Place the forward reverse lever in the neutral
position. Throttle engine down to its slowest
speed.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Turn the key to STOP or OFF position. DO
NOT CHOKE THE CARBURETOR TO STOP
ENGINE.
3.6 PARKING BRAKE
Parking brake only, use the forward reverse lever to
slow down roller.
ALWAYS APPLY PARKING BRAKE WHEN
ROLLER IS NOT IN USE. BLOCK THE DRUMS
TO PREVENT ROLLING OF THE MACHINE OR
SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY MAY OCCUR.
NEVER PARK A ROLLER ON A HILL.
It should take a force of 40-45 pounds to apply the
brake lever. The brake should prevent the roller from
moving when applied.
3.7 TIE DOWNS
Equipment is equipped with front and rear tie down
rings for shipping purposes. Use only these tie downs
to secure unit.
TIE DOWNS ARE NOT INTENDED FOR
LIFTING PURPOSES.
3.8 TO OPERATE
Disengage the parking brake, apply full throttle and
move forward reverse lever slowly forward to gain
speed desired. The same procedure is for reverse. To
slow down, move forward reverse lever towards
neutral.
To gain power or speed by moving the forward reverse
lever slightly off of neutral will produce the greatest
amount of torque. Moving the lever all the way
forward or reverse will give the greatest amount of
speed.
NEVER OPERATE ON SLOPES GREATER
THAN 15 DEGREES OR TIPPING MAY OCCUR,
RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY.
