AUTOMATIC ICE MAKER
MAKING ICE
Water continuously circulates over a freezing plate. As the water
freezes into ice, minerals in the water are constantly being rejected
and a clear sheet of ice is formed.
The ice maker will make the ice sheet approximately l/2” thick with
the ice thickness control (left control knob) set at “normal”,
Adjustment of the thickness control will cause the machine to make
thinner or thicker sheets of ice.
When the desired ice thickness IS reached the ice sheet
automatically slides onto a cutter grid where it is divided into
individualcubelets.
At the end of each freezing cycle, the water containing the rejected
minerals is discharged to the drain. Fresh water then enters the
machine for the next ice making cycle.
The ice sheet is divided into cubelets (31i” x %“)
Cubes fall into the insulated storage bin, When the bin is full, the ice
maker turns off automatically, then starts up again when the ice
supply needs replenishing.
Before starting your Ice Maker
After ice maker is installed and before it is turned on, you will probably want to wash the inside of the
storage bin. Use a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda to one quart of warm water. Rinse
thoroughly and dry.
l Make certain the water is turned on.
l Turn switch to the “ON” positron.
IMPORTANT:
Allow unit to run for 3 hours before expecting ice and for 24 hours before trying to set the thickness control.

Things to Remember
l Water enters only during the defrost cycle. Therefore the first cycle will be completed without water
in the system.
l As the room and water temperatures vary, so will the amount of ice produced. This means that high
operating temperatures will result in reduced ice production.
l The unit will shut off when ice in the storage bin touches the bin thermostat well and will
automatically cycle to keep the bin full.
l The storage bin is not refrigerated and some meltage will occur. This, too, varies with the room
temperature.
Oiling
All components of the ice maker are lubricated at the factory and should not require any additional
oiling for the normal life of the machine.
Filtering and Treating Water
In some areas it may be beneficial to filter or treat the water being supplied to the ice machine to
reduce water system maintenance (cleaning and removal of scale deposits) and to produce the best
type of ice.
For information on filtering and treating the water see your local plumber or Authorized Service
Agency.
Light Replacement
To replace the light bulb (G.E. #912, 12.N) remove the grid cover at top of ice bin by removing thumb
screws. Bulb is located behind grid cover. Replace bulb and grid cover.
Cleaning Exterior Surfaces
Cabinets may be cleaned simply by wiping with a damp cloth
Door Gasket
The vinyl gasket strip around the inside of the door keeps the door sealed. Wash it regularly with a
solution of warm water and detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
Toe Plate
Do not block the toe space plate at bottom of unit. Obstruction of airflow could result in malfunction. It
is recommended this toe plate be vacuumed periodically.
Cleaning and Sanitizing the Ice Making System
Impurities are rejected from the circulating water that freezes into ice. These impurities collect on the
freezing mechanism and in the water system. The complete system, therefore, should be periodically
cleaned and sanitized.
The cleaning and sanitizing procedure is not too difficult, however, having an Authorized service
representative clean the system the first time should make subsequent cleanings easier to perform if
you wish to take over this portion of the ice machine maintenance.
NOTE: An indication that the ice maker needs cleaning is when you notice a gradual reduction in the
rate Of ice produced.

Size of Ice Cubes
The ice maker will make ice cubes approximately M” thick with the ice thickness control knob set at
“normal”. If you prefer them a little thinner or thicker, adjust the ice thickness cycle control
counterclockwise for thinner cubes or clockwise for thicker cubes.
No defrosting needed
Unlike most refrigeration systems, your ice maker will never have to be defrosted.
Shut Down of Ice Maker
It is not necessary to turn your ice maker off if the ice machine is not to be used for a 3 to 4 week
period. The switch in the ice bin automatically shuts the unit off whenever the bin is full of ice. If your
ice maker is to be shut off for several months then the ice should be removed from the bin and the unit
should be cleaned and sanitized. Cleaning and sanitizing instructions are on the back of the inside door
cover. Arrange to have the water line disconnected, and the water removed from the water pan and
drain line. Unplug the machine or disconnect the electricity to the machine.

be defective In materials or workmanshlp in the sealed system (parts only). The sealed system consists of the compressor,
condenser. evaporator, drier and all connecting tubing.
TERMS APPLICABLE TO EACH WARRANTY
All service provided by Sub-Zero under the above warranty must be performed by authorized Subzero service
representabves, unless otherwise specified by Sub-Zero. Service ~111 be provided in the home dunng the normal business
hours. This warranty applies only to products Installed for normal residential use. A separate nonresldenbal warranty IS
available upon request.
The warranty applies only to products Installed In any one of the fifty states of the United States, the District of Columbia or the
ten provinces of Canada. This warranty does not cover any parts or labor to correct any defect caused by negligence,
accident or improper use, maintenance, Installation, service or repair, including but not limIted to improper removal and
reinstallation (whether In the unit or at a remote location) of the condensing unit.
THE REMEDIES DESCRIBED ABOVE FOR EACH WARRANTY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHICH SUB-ZERO
WILL PROVIDE, EITHER UNDER THESE WARRANTIES OR UNDER ANY WARRANTY ARISING BY OPERA-
TION OF LAW. SUB-ZERO WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAM-
AGES ARISING FROM THE BREACH OF THESE WARRANTIES OR ANY OTHER WARRANT/ES, WHETHER
EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY.
Some states do not allow the exclusion or IImitatIon of incidental or consequenbal damages, so the above llmltatlon or exclu-
