SAFE SLEEP SAVES LIVES! First Candle reminds parents and caregivers
that the safest place for your baby to sleep, for at least the first six months,
is ALONE, on his or her BACK, in a safety approved CRIB placed near
your bed. By following these simple rules, you can help protect your baby
from SIDS, suffocation and accidents during sleep.
• ALWAYS place your baby to sleep on his or her back on a firm mattress
covered with only a tight-fitting sheet
• Remove all soft bedding and other items from your baby’s sleep area
(pillows, blankets, quilts, stuffed animals, etc.)
• Soft or pillow-like bumpers, wedges and positioners should never be
used in your baby’s sleep area
• Use a wearable blanket or other type sleeper instead of loose blankets
to keep your baby warm and safe
• Do not place your baby to sleep on any soft surfaces
(sofas, chairs, waterbeds, quilts, adult beds, etc.)
• Bring your baby into bed for feedings and bonding, but when it’s time
to go to sleep, place your baby alongside your bed in his or her own
separate space
• Consider offering your baby a pacifier every time you place him or her
down to sleep - research shows that regular use of a pacifier can
greatly reduce the risk of SIDS
• Don’t let your baby get too warm - layer clothing and keep room
temperature at what would be comfortable for a lightly clothed adult
• Make sure your baby has a safe place to sleep when visiting
or traveling
• Educate everyone who cares for your baby about these important rules!

Research findings indicate that overheating your baby with too much
clothing or too warm of a room temperature may increase the risk of
SIDS, particularly if they have a fever. Parents are encouraged to set
the room temperature to what would be comfortable for a lightly
clothed adult and layer the baby’s clothing/sleepwear to keep the
baby at a comfortable temperature without the use of loose
blankets in the crib. Your baby should never feel hot to the touch.

BATTERY WARNING:
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• Do not mix alkaline, standard, or rechargeable batteries.
• Remove batteries and unplug the rechargeable battery pack
pig tail when product is stored for long period of time or when
batteries are exhausted.
• Dispose of exhausted batteries properly.
• Use only the original rechargeable battery pack. Warranty void if
other batteries are used. Please contact Summer Infant, Inc. for
a replacement battery pack, contact information can be found
at the end of the instruction booklet.

•Do not use monitor near water (such as bathtub, sink, etc.).
•Keep monitor away from heat sources (such as stoves, radiators,
etc.) and make sure there is proper ventilation (not on sofas,
cushions, beds, etc. which may block ventilation).
•Nursery monitors use public airwaves to transmit and receive
signals. This monitor may pick up signals from other monitors
or similar devices, and signals broadcast by this monitor may
be picked up by other receivers.
• This product is not a toy. Do not allow children to play with it.

This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference,
and (2) this device must accept any interference received,
including interference that may cause undesired operation.
CAUTION: Changes or modifications not expressly
approved by Summer Infant may void the users authority
to operate this equipment.
NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to
comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant
to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to
provide reasonable protection against harmful interference
in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses
and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not
installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may
cause harmful interference to radio communications.
However, there is no guarantee that interference will not
occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does
cause harmful interference to radio or television reception,
which can be determined by turning the equipment off and
on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference
by one or more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiver
• Increase the separation between the equipment
and the receiver

Summer Infant, Inc. Monitor Warranty Policy
Summer Infant, Inc. will repair or replace (at our option) your unit
free of charge for 12 months from the date of purchase if the unit
is defective in workmanship or materials. To claim your repair/
replacement, the product must be returned to Summer Infant along
with a copy of the original purchase receipt. In the absence of the
purchase receipt, the warranty will be 12 months from the date of
manufacture. This warranty does not apply to normal wear or
damage from misuse, abuse, improper storage and handling,
installation, accident, unauthorized repair or alteration. Please contact
our Customer Service Department by phone at 1-800-268-6237 or via
e-mail at customerser[email protected] for details.

SET UP & USE:
Baby’s Unit
Step 1: Place the Baby’s Unit on a flat surface, such as a dresser,
bureau, or shelf (Figure A). Plug the Adapter into a standard
electrical outlet. NEVER place Baby’s
Unit or cords within 3 feet of the crib.
Be sure to test reception and
Baby’s Unit positioning before
mounting to a wall (see "Testing
The Product" section).
Step 2: Slide power switch on back
of unit to either ˚F or ˚C setting.
You should see a temperature
displayed on the screen on
the front of the unit.
Baby Unit’s housing and screen
will glow (most visibly in dimly lit rooms) based on
temperature in the Baby’s room as shown below:
Note: Do not place the baby’s unit near open windows,
direct sunlight or heat sources as temperature accuracy
may be effected.
Blue – Too Cool - Lower than 67˚F
Yellow – Recommended Temperature - 67˚F - 73˚F
Red – Too Warm – Higher than 73˚F
Note: Press the GLOW on/off button on the bottom of the
Baby’s Unit to disable glow.
Parent’s Unit
Note: Charge battery in Parent's Unit (in portable/battery
mode) for 12-16 hours before first use.
Step 1: Place the Parent’s Unit in the room from which you
want to monitor your baby (ie. bedroom or living room). Plug
an AC Adapter into the AC Adapter Jack on the right side of
the Parent’s Unit recharger base and the other end into a
standard electrical outlet.
Step 2: Turn unit on and adjust volume level by using
Power/Volume Dial on left side of the Parent’s Unit. You
should see a temperature display on the screen on the
front of the unit.
Temperature display and screen color will correspond to the
temperature in the child’s room.

To use the Parent’s Unit in
Portable Mode
For use in portable mode, the
Parent’s Unit requires one 3.6 V
rechargeable battery (included).
Open battery compartment door
using a phillips screwdriver and
make sure battery is connected.
Replace battery compartment
door. When the power LED is
amber color, the battery needs
to be recharged.
Tips:
• Before using monitor in portable mode (battery),
be sure to charge battery 12-16 hours.
• To charge battery, plug the larger AC Adapter into the
Monitor’s AC Adapter Jack. Plug the other end into
a standard electrical outlet.
• After initial 12-16 hour charge, to achieve optimal battery
life, charge battery overnight and unplug all day
during use.
Battery Installation:
Note: This step is only needed
if replacing battery.
1. Locate the battery compartment
door on back of monitor.
2. Loosen screws, open battery
compartment door and connect
battery as shown (Figure B).
Replace door and tighten screw.
Testing the Product
You should be able to clearly hear all levels of sound coming
from the Baby’s Unit through the Speaker on the Parent's Unit.
Digital technology will automatically scan and select a free
and secure channel so you only hear your baby. If no sound
comes from the Speaker of the Parent’s Unit check to make
sure all cords are fully plugged in and connected and
batteries are fresh. Make sure both Units are turned on.
Belt Clip:
For convenience and portability,
you can clip the Monitor to your belt
or waistband after a battery has
been installed.
